2 Statements & Search Criteria Mission The mission of the Richmond Alumnae Delta House Foundation is to provide viable programs and services in a multi-use facility for area citizens to enhance their quality of life. Background The Richmond Alumnae Delta House Foundation, Inc., established in March 1993, is a public nonprofit taxexempt corporation that receives funds for charitable and educational purposes. Approved as a 501(c)3 foundation by the Internal Revenue Service, the mission of the Richmond Alumnae Delta House Foundation is to strengthen and expand the Five Point Programmatic Thrust of the Richmond Alumnae Chapter of Delta Sigma Theta Sorority Inc., a service organization. All members of the Chapter are members of the Foundation. Members of the Chapter serve on the Board of the Foundation. Chapter and Foundation program offerings annually reach more than 600 young people, male and female, through the Delta Academy that focuses on at-risks girls, age at selected schools; Delta G.E.M.S. (Growing and Empowering Myself Successfully) that focuses on at-risk girls, age at selected schools; E.M.B.O.D.I. (Empowering Males to Build Opportunities for Developing Independence) for African American males, ages 13-17; and, F.A.S.T. (Families and School Team) which serves as an advocate for teenagers enrolled in the Richmond Public Schools Adult Career Development Center (ACDC). The focus of all the programs is the building of healthy relationships between peers and mentors. Impact The Richmond Alumnae Delta House Foundation and Richmond Alumnae Chapter Delta Sigma Theta have and will continue to sponsor the Infinite Scholars Program, the only program of its kind in the Commonwealth of Virginia, which is available to junior and senior high school students statewide. This annual program grows exponentially each year; in 2014, 518 students registered, 258 parents attended, 531 on-site admissions were granted and more than $7.4 million scholarships awarded on-site. Since 2009, over $33,000,000 has been awarded in scholarships and more than 2200 onsite college admissions granted. In addition to scholarships and admissions, financial aid workshops are provided for parents. The Foundation / Chapter sponsored its 25th Annual Oratorical Contest, which is open to all students, Kindergarten through 12th grade. This program along with the Delta Authors' Pavilion has become a signature program. The third annual Delta Authors' Pavilion brought to the community a FREE to the public opportunity to speak with local authors as well as out of state authors about their writings for young and old. Both programs will be housed in the community center. RADHF & RAC have high expectations regarding scholarship awards and on-site admissions for the 7th Infinite Scholars Program, which will be held October 3, Also, high expectations for the 2016 High Achievers Program, which annually recognizes 50+ high school students for their accomplishments. These are usually students who may not be at the top of the class but have displayed vast improvement. The Delta Authors' Pavilion has garnered attention on the National level and RAC/ RADHF have been tagged to sponsor one of two Delta Authors on Tour in the South Atlantic Region. This honor has the potential to bring in and expose to the city of Richmond authors and members from Virginia, North Carolina, South Carolina, and Bermuda. 2

3 Needs RADHF along with Richmond Alumnae Chapter Delta Sigma Theta has programs which we actively bring to the Richmond community throughout the year. As a nonprofit organization, a primary need is the generation of financing for our programs as well as a sizable amount ($2 million) needed to renovate the historic building gifted to the chapter. We are in a capital campaign to renovate the former Good Shepherd Baptist Church in the East End into a Community Center. The building, constructed in 1888, is one of the earliest churches constructed in Church Hill by African Americans for African Americans. In 2001, the building was designated an historic site by Virginia Department of Historic Resources. As such, renovations must be stringently considered and monitored to maintain the building's historic site designation. The primary needs of our organization are funding and alliances with corporations and businesses for the renovation and revitalization of the historic site. Monies initially accumulated for the massive renovation have dwindled because of structural stabilization and other work needed to keep the historic building insured and maintained until major renovations can occur. The building has been structurally stabilized through ongoing donations by the membership. Board Chair Statement For more than 70 years, the Richmond Alumnae Chapter of Delta Sigma Theta has exerted a positive influence in the Richmond Metropolitan Community through the implementations of its Five Point Programmatic Thrusts. In 1993, the Delta House Foundation was incorporated with the goal of providing support to chapter programs beyond that given by its more than 300 members who voluntarily give of their time, their talents and monetary gifts. Since its formation and incorporation, the Foundation has impacted the Metropolitan Richmond Community with numerous programs focusing on educational development, economic development, health and wellness programs. The Foundation has also co-sponsored with the Chapter formal programs with local politicians participating on panel discussions of political awareness as well as cultural fairs celebrating international awareness. It has indeed been my pleasure to serve as chair of the Foundation. I am gratified by our many achievements. My sincere thanks to the members of the sorority, individuals, organizations, schools and businesses that have supported our efforts this past year. Continuing support is being solicited and is sincerely appreciated. RADHF sponsors, cosponsors and supports services and programs of Richmond Alumnae Chapter Delta Sigma Theta, which are available to the metro Richmond area as well as the annual Infinite Scholars Program that is available to high school students statewide. 5 Programs Programs Delta Community Center Program Overview Description We are in the planning stages of developing programs that will be offered at the new Community Center. The initial focus of the programs will be in two areas: education and health & wellness. We are renovating the building to be a state-of-the-art facility that will have flexible space so a variety of groups may use the space in an infinite number of ways. Existing Foundation/Chapter youth programs and offerings which currently occur on weekends and evenings will transition to this facility. Budget $0.00 Youth Programs - Delta Academy, Delta G.E.M.S, E.M.B.O.D.I., F.A.S.T., Jabberwock Description These national and local youth programs are currently conducted at other facilities, but will be moved to the community center upon its completion and approval for occupancy. Other youth programs, i.e., Infinite Scholars Program, High Achievers Program, may not be conducted in the facility because the number of participants may exceed the building's maximum occupancy. 8 The current Chair of the Board has served since the inception of this Community Center vision. She will step aside when the Center has opened. All Board members serve two-year terms and then can be re-elected to serve as often as they wish to serve. This is an all-volunteer commitment to ensure that this Community Center becomes a thriving hub of activity in Richmond's East End. 8

Through the process of determining programming, we are currently working with Richmond Promise Neighborhood as well as in conversation with a number of community organizations who are considering offering programs once the Center has opened. As previously stated, the Foundation/Chapter have in place various youth initiatives mandated by the national organization as well as local initiatives which bring about collaborations with the Richmond Public Library, Richmond Public Schools, Richmond Promise Neighborhood to name a few. 9
