2 The Salvation Army WA: Corporate Volunteering Opportunities Each year The Salvation Army in Australia, provides assistance to over one million Australians - to continue providing high quality community services, we need your help. Volunteers are the foundational base as to what The Salvation Army is built upon. We thank you for your consideration in joining our Corporate Volunteering Program and invite you to glance over the opportunities in this document. If your company has a particular skill set and/or a set idea of a project they would like to be involved in or set up, we invite you discuss this with us further. Financial partnerships available with the Salvation Army can be explored by contacting us directly. Pro Bono Australia announced in August 2012 the results of a recent study conducted by the University of Adelaide.It has found that the Volunteering Industry in Australia is now worth more than 30 Million to the economy which is more than the mining industry. Overall in Australia over 6.4 people volunteer their time to make their community a better place to live. Corporate Volunteering gives the ideal opportunity for a company to make a lasting commitment to giving something back to the community. Investing in community projects that The Salvation Army provides to those less fortunate makes a difference not to those affected just today but also to those in the many tomorrows to come.

4 Red Shield Appeal (May) Annual Door Knock Appeal Thank you barbeque for volunteers Stationary Collecting in stores i.e. Bunnings Data Entry Creation of Red Shield Appeal Door Knock packs The Red Shield Appeal is The Salvation Army's major annual fundraising drive to help finance our vast network of social and community services. The national fundraising target met for 2012 was $81.5 million. We encourage corporate groups to get involved and organise a team to go collecting during the Red Shield Door Knock Neighbourhood Appeal, which occurs in May each year. Alternatively, there is an option of providing a thank you barbeque at a local church/centre, for the volunteers who have donated their time to the door knock appeal. This is an ideal way to give back to the community through the volunteers that so whole heartedly help us to help others. Packs, such as the ones in the photo above, are essential to the success of the Door Knock Appeal. Corporates can be involved in spending a day at our Divisional Head Quarters in Northbridge and putting these packs together as a team initiative and learning firsthand about the logistic operations of this event. 5 Salvo Stores Warehouse-Year round (Up to 25 participants) Warehouse Salvo Stores (local store) Corporate groups can learn how the Salvo Stores make a difference to the community by assisting at the Canningvale Salvo Stores Warehouse. Tasks to undertake include sorting through donated electrical, furniture and clothing goods, creating a regional inventory, packing and unpacking and related duties. Many corporate choose to organise outside catering for lunch time and volunteer as a group for a full or part day. There are also opportunities for corporate to volunteer in a local Salvo Store for a part of full day. A maximum of four volunteers can be rostered on per shift. Page 3.

6 New Heights Community Centre Baldivis (All year round) Landscaping/ gardening Cleaning windows/accommodation Busy Bee Corporate groups can learn the importance of the role that the community centre plays in the community and how its funds,raised directly help those less fortunate. Duties to be undertaken can include, gardening (backyard blitz), painting and general maintenance. Many corporate groups use the conference centre for a team building day where they hold the amazing race and perform gardening/painting/general maintenance duties and are rewarded with points for their effort and have clues with instructions to follow. There is a swimming pool on the property and volunteers can use this at the end of the day, when giving prior notice. Page 4.

7 Balga Community Support Service Outdoor floor surface make over Sensory Garden Make over Wall Painting/ Muriel Project The Salvation Army s Balga branch, provides a supported accommodation program, emergency relief, financial counseling, youth services and an Early Learning Centre The Balga Early Centre Day Care, is the only one of its kind in Australia that bases its rates on the income of the household. There are many projects available at this centre which really will make a difference to the children attending. There is an opportunity for the outside area to be made over, with wall painting and/or a mural being completed, resurfacing of the play area floor and maintenance of the sensory nature outdoor area with varied fruit or vegetables, soil etc. Page 5.

8 Busy Bee (Year round) Outdoor Gardening/Clean up at Salvation Army Church/ Service sites Indoor cleaning, windows, floor, chairs etc. Corporate groups can visit a Salvation Army site to perform maintenance. This may include gardening or painting. This activity depends entirely on the need of the site at any given time.there are various Salvation Army Church Corps in the Metropolitan area. If you let us know the area, we can arrange this activity at a site close to you. There is also an opportunity to establish a community vegetable/fruit garden at a local Salvation Army Church Corps. This is a great way to create community engagement. Page 6.

9 Christmas Packing Toy & Food Hampers (December) Gift Wrapping in different shopping centres Karrinyup Santa Stocking Appeal Christmas Kombi Appeal in conjunction with Lavan Legal CD Promotion in Myer Stores Collecting donations (food,toys) Provide a Christmas Party for Salvation Army Clients (i.e. BBQ) Corporate groups are able to assist in putting together and helping families select Christmas hampers, through Perth Door Ways Community Support Services.Shifts are a minimum of four hours. Corporate groups can participate in gift-wrapping at various shopping centres around Perth. Usually this would require no more than three volunteers at any given time. Funds raised are used by the local Salvation Army centres throughout the year. Page 7..

10 Each year the Salvation Army in conjunction with the Karrinyup Shopping Centre run the Christmas Santa Stocking Campaign. Volunteers are needed to man the stand at the shopping centre and meet and greet people as they donate gifts such as food and toys into the giant stocking, This is perfect opportunity to volunteer and spread the Christmas Spirit and be part of something that will bring a little more light into someone s life at this festive time of the year. Groups can also volunteer to run the Salvation Army CD promotion booth at Myer Stores within the Perth, Morley and Booragoon stores. Collectors are also needed at various shopping centres to promote the Christmas Appeal and collect donations for the Salvation Army. This is a fun activity, in a great environment! Corporate groups can organise, pay for and provide a Christmas party for clients from a Salvation Army social centre. This can be either an off-site or on-site party, depending on the social centre s circumstances. Page 8.

11 Badge Day Group collecting in the community Internal morning tea/ fundraising This is the day when volunteers and Salvation Army Officer alike will be found shaking their tin collecting loose change to support local Salvation Army Church Corps and the essential services they offer directly to their local communities For corporates that may not have the time capacity there is the option to hold some kind of event at your company such as a morning tea and collect donations, which then in turn can go to a local Salvation Army Church Corps towards the vital local services they provide in your area. 12 Salvation Army Emergency Services (SAES) Corporates can engage as on call volunteers, this can be for a nominated time within business hours or outside hours. Conduct a busy bee clean out at the Malaga Warehouse and meet some of the crew. SAES has various storage sheds with essential items in Rockingham,Kwinana, Hamilton Hill, Gosnells, Merriwa, Mandurah, Bunbury and Albany, Teams can volunteer to clean out the shed and prepare a inventory and prepare these hubs so The Salvation Army can respond faster to emergency situations. The Salvation Army Emergency Services is committed to supporting emergency catering with trained volunteer crews that work around the clock offering meals, snacks and a listening ear. The SAES provides emergency catering to Western Australia s Emergency Services Organisations such as but not limited to, Fire & Emergency Services (F.E.S.A), State Emergency Services (S.E.S)and the WA Police Department (WA POL). The SAES provides catering for emergencies such as bushfires, floods, storm damage, searches for missing people, ship fires, major road/ rail accidents and police operations. Page 10.

13 The Salvation Army Soup Run The Sup Run is an imperative service that provides meals every day of the year to the homeless, within the Perth CBD. The Soup Run is largely operated on a volunteer basis. Helpers assist with preparing the food,and delivering it out to people in need. If your company are interested in providing the $125 cost of the food, The Salvation Army can offer you a morning or afternoon session of volunteering as a team,during the week, directly helping those in need.
