As a result, the College of Engineering at California State University, Long is collaborating with local schools to provide this opportunity. For more information visit: ch.shtml The Young Ambassadors Program Grades Dates July, April, Location California Science Center Museum of Latin American Art Cost No Cost (Responsible for transportation) Brief Description: The Young Ambassadors Program is a leadership program for graduating high school seniors which fosters the next generation of Latino leaders in the arts, sciences, and humanities. The program includes a week long seminar at the Smithsonian Institution in Washington D.C. and a four week internship in either The California Science Center in Los Angeles or The Museum of Latin American Art in Long. Students who complete the program receive a $2,000 stipend. For more information visit: Chicano Latino Youth Leadership Project Institute - Los Angeles Grades 10th and 11th Dates August 5 - August 7 April, Location Cal State Los Cost No Cost (Responsible for transportation) Angeles Brief Description: CLYLP-Los Angeles is a three day institute designed to develop students leadership potential and increase their knowledge of the region's cultural and political landscape. Participants connect with education, business, political and community leaders and receive encouragement in their pursuit of post-secondary educational opportunities. The budding scientists engage in hands-on science investigations, meet Cal State Long scientists, and take field trips on and off campus while working the college s science laboratories. 2 Chicano Latino Youth Leadership Project - Sacramento Leadership Conference Grades 10th and 11th Dates July 16 - April, July 23 Location Cal State Sacramento Cost No Cost Brief Description: The CLYLP Sacramento Leadership Conference is a week-long intensive leadership program. Conference participants attend powerful workshops and seminars that will enhance leadership skills, academic preparedness, self-esteem, cultural awareness, and provide an understanding of state and local government. Students will have a unique opportunity to visit the state Capitol to learn first-hand about the legislative process. Students will also be presented with valuable information about college and professional careers. For more information visit: UCLA Model United Nations Summer Institute Grades 9th, 10th, 11th, Dates June 19 - May 1, and June 25 Location UCLA Cost $1713 (Financial Aid available) Brief Description: UCLA offers this week-long intensive Model United Nations Summer Institute for high school students interested in diplomacy and foreign affairs. During the institute, students will take on the role of a diplomat, engage in independent research, and then debate a country's position on one of the many committees of the United Nations. If you are passionate about international relations and history and enjoy or want to improve your skills regarding public speaking and debate, then the UCLA Model United Nations Summer Institute is the perfect opportunity of you. This program is also for students who may want to pursue a career in law as a trial attorney, prosecutor, or defense attorney. Students who wish to build on their self-confidence and strengthen their ability to communicate their ideas and opinions to others may also find this program helpful. This two week program offers a unique blend of artistic vision with technological expertise, introducing students to the field of gaming and walking them through the essentials of making a playable game. 3 Cal State Dominguez Hills Summer Camp in Video Game Design and Animation Ages Dates July 18 - July 22 Location Cal State Dominguez Hills Cost $279 Brief Description: Summer Camp in Video Game Design and Animation is an information-packed funfilled workshop for aspiring game designers everywhere. Students will learn the step-by-step process for creating compelling digital illustrations under the guidance of an instructor. Young artists will be introduced to software used by leading industry professionals. For more information visit: Cal State Dominguez Hills Website Design for Kids Ages Dates July 11 - July 14 Location Cal State Dominguez Hills Cost $279 Brief Description: In this information-packed program, young computer artists will learn basic page building techniques for creating professional quality websites. From story boards, digital art and page building to navigation, design, and page linking, students will gain mastery of digital techniques for designing websites. For more information visit: Cal State Fullerton Engineering Innovation Grades 9th, 10th, 11th, and Dates June 27 - June 1, July 22 Location Cal State Fullerton Cost $2400 (Scholarships available) Brief Description: Engineering Innovation is an exciting college-level summer program for motivated high school students with an aptitude in math and science and an interest in (or curiosity about) engineering. In the program, students learn to think and problem-solve like engineers. Over this four week long program, students will complete lab activities in computer engineering, chemical engineering, electrical engineering, material science, civil engineering, robotics and mechanical engineering. The immediate goal of the program is to increase students abilities to learn and use mathematical concepts thereby supporting their achievement in high school preparatory coursework. For more information visit: Middle School Health and Science Academy Ages Dates June 20 - June 24 June 27 - July 7 Location UCI School of Cost $950 (Scholarships available) Medicine Brief Description: This program is offered through UCI School of Medicine. This innovative one week program inspires middle school students to develop an interest in the science and healthcare fields. Students participate in hands-on workshops that enhance their interpersonal skills and inspire them to consider careers in health or science. Under the guidance of physician faculty, medical students, and college student, participating students get an early introduction to courses offered in medical school.. For more information visit:

4 Young Artists Camp Grades 3rd - 8th Dates July 25 - August 12 May 15, Location Cal State Long Cost $350 Brief Description: Young Artists Camp provides training in art fundamentals, with experiences in drawing/painting, printmaking, mixed media, sculpture, and ceramics, plus campus field trips and a final exhibition of the students art work. For more information visit: Hands-On Science Camp Grades 1st - 8th Dates June 13 - August 12 Varies depending on course (financial aid available) Location California Science Cost Center Brief Description: Exciting exploration, delightful discoveries and wild wonders await your family this summer at Hands-On Science Camp at California Science Center. This camp offers more than 30 oneweek long courses, including parent-and-child classes that give families a chance to investigate science together. The Hands-On Science Camp consists of education professionals and working professionals in the science fields. For more information visit: MOOLA s Summer Art and Culture Camp Ages 6-12 Dates July 11 - July 29 $200 per week (scholarships are available) Location Museum of Latin American Art, Cost Long Brief Description: MOOLA summer camps explore Latin American culture through a variety of activities. Campers enjoy gallery visits, participate in individual and collaborative art projects, and learn about the dance and martial arts traditions of Mexico, Central America, South America, and the Caribbean. Lessons are presented in a bilingual format, appropriate for all levels. Sections with a focus on art, movement, and language give parents the flexibility to mix and match to create the most appropriate experience for the child. For more information visit: UniCamp Ages Dates July 5 - August 14 May 9 Location UCLA Cost $600 ( financial aid available) Brief Description: Campers have the opportunity to explore the outdoors and participate in traditional camp programs such as archery, arts and crafts, or recreation and also have the chance to push themselves with programs such as: the alpine climbing tower, sailing, or mountain biking. In addition to the traditional camp experience, each classic UniCamp partners with a Los Angeles area nonprofit or after-school program to address a specific social initiative. Throughout each camp session there will be special programs to address that week s initiative. For more information visit: African American Leaders for Tomorrow Grades 10th-11th Dates July 6 - May 16 July 9 Location Cal State Dominguez Cost No Cost Hills Brief Description: The African American Leaders for Tomorrow program is a four-day long residential summer program that is held on the campus of Cal State Dominguez Hills. Eighty students are hand selected to receive leadership training and attend workshops on topics such as college experience, career development and financial literacy. Students live on campus at Cal State Dominguez Hills. Housing, meals, program materials, as well as transportation during the conference will be provided at no cost to the participants.
