The Hawkeyes wrestle Iowa Central at 10 a.m. (CT), Buffalo at 11:30 a.m., and North Dakota State at 1:30 p.m. Iowa Central and Buffalo will wrestle at 1:30 p.m. Admission is $12 for adults, $8 for youth, and free for UI students and children fiveyears-old and younger. Times are subject to change. IOWA CITY DUALS This season marks the 10th year of the Iowa City Duals. The Hawkeyes are 28-0 in the history of the duals, and Iowa wrestlers own a record in the event. Iowa Central is making its ninth appearance in the duals. Buffalo and North Dakota State are making their first appearances. IOWA CITY DUALS OPPONENTS The Hawkeyes have a combined record of 12-0 against Friday s opponents. The Hawkeyes own an 9-0 series advantage against Iowa Central. The Hawkeyes won the first series mee ng, 49-0, in 2000, and own wins in 2007 (50-0), 2008 (52-0), 2010 (45-0), 2011 (37-6), 2013 (55-0), 2014 (49-3), 2015 (54-0), and 2016 (55-0). Iowa is 2-0 against Buffalo, winning 39-3 at Buffalo in 2012, and 46-0 at Carver- Hawkeye Arena in The Hawkeyes won their only previous mee ng with North Dakota State, 33-7, on the road in CARVER HAWKEYE ARENA DEBUTS Five Hawkeyes in the probable lineup could make their Carver-Hawkeye Arena debuts Friday. True freshman Jus n S ckley (125), redshirt freshman Kaleb Young (165), and sophomores Paul Glynn (133), Vince Turk (141), and Keegan Shaw (157) are in line to wrestle in the famed arena for the first me. S ckley won a tle at the Luther Open on Nov. 11, pos ng a 3-0 record with a major decision and a pin. Shaw placed second and Glynn and placed third at the Luther Open. Turk and Young are making their season debuts. Turk was 1-0 as a redshirt freshman last season. Young is making his Hawkeye debut a er pos ng a 21-6 record compe ng una ached in Junior Mitch Bowman is making his second career appearance at Carver-Hawkeye Arena. The 184-pounder wrestled heavyweight when Iowa wrestled Iowa Central last season. Bowman won by fall in 1:32. HAWKEYES AT HOME The Hawkeyes are all- me at Carver-Hawkeye Arena since moving from the UI Field House in The Hawkeyes have recorded 20 undefeated seasons in Carver- Hawkeye Arena, the most recent in (9-0). Carver-Hawkeye Arena has hosted two United States Olympic Team Trials, four Big Ten Championships (1983, 1994, 2005, 2016), and four NCAA Championships (1986, 1991, 1995, 2001). The Hawkeyes have won five tournament tles on their home mat, including the 1983 and 1994 Big Ten Championships, and the 1986, 1991 and 1995 NCAA Championships UWW WORLD CUP Following the NCAA season, Carver-Hawkeye Arena opens its doors April 7-8 to host the most pres gious interna onal dual tournament in the world. The UWW World Cup features the top eight men s freestyle teams in the world, including the 2017 UWW World Champion, United States. Team USA features Hawkeye All-American and world silver medalist Thomas Gilman, and Olympic medalists Jordan Burroughs, J Den Cox, and Kyle Snyder. The Hawkeyes have won 23 na onal tles and 35 Big Ten tles. Iowa s 54 NCAA Champions have won a total of 82 NCAA individual tles, crowning six three- me and 16 two- me champions. The Hawkeyes 112 Big Ten champions have combined for 199 conference tles. There have been seven four- me, 18 three- me, and 30 two- me Big Ten champions from Iowa. Iowa s 154 All-Americans have earned All- America status 324 mes, including 19 four- me, 37 three- me and 39 two- me honorees. IOWA ALL AMERICANS Iowa returns All-Americans Brandon Sorensen (149) and Michael Kemerer (157). Another run to the All-American stand would be Sorensen s fourth. The Hawkeyes have had 19 four- me All-Americans in program history. Iowa crowned five All-Americans in Thomas Gilman (125), Cory Clark (133), Sorensen (149), Kemerer (157), and Sammy Brooks (184). The Hawkeyes have crowned at least one All-American in 46 consecu ve seasons, a stretch da ng back to Iowa has totaled 278 All-America honors during that stretch. CHASING THE HAWKEYES Gary Kurdelmeier led Iowa to its first NCAA Championship in 1975, and in the 43 years since, the Hawkeyes have accumulated 23 team tles, more than any other school -- Oklahoma State (7), Penn State (6), Minnesota (3), Iowa State (2), Ohio State (1) and Arizona State (1). THE ATTENDANCE GAME The Hawkeyes averaged 10,591 fans in five home duals against Iowa State (Dec. 10), Penn State (Jan. 20), Ohio State (10,338), Wisconsin (8,431), and Nebraska (9,830). Iowa led the na on in a endance for the 11th consecu ve season in and averaged more than 8,000 fans for the ninth straight season. LUTHER OPEN -- NOV. 11, 2017 The University of Iowa wrestling team won nine tles at the 2017 Luther Open, including seven championships in the Elite Division and two more in the Silver Division. Four true freshmen won tles in the Elite Division. Jus n S ckley (125), Max Murin (141), Jacob Warner (197), and Aaron Costello (285) combined for 16 wins -- seven by fall, three by major decision, and one by technical fall -- to win championships in their Hawkeye debuts. Sophomores Jeren Glosser (149) and Jeremiah Moody (165), and senior Phillip Laux (133) also won tles. Glosser registered a team-high three falls and Moody scored bonus points in all four matches. Laux was 3-0 with a fall and major decision. Three tle matches were intrasquad bouts. Perez Perez (125), Carter Happel (141), and Stephen Alvarez (149) all placed runnerup in their respec ve brackets. True freshmen Myles Wilson went 4-0 with two technical falls en route to a 184-pound tle in the Silver Division, and Sam Cook went 4-0 with a fall and technical fall to win the 197-pound Silver Division tle. The Hawkeyes had a collec ve record of with 42 bonus point wins. Iowa totaled 23 falls, eight technical falls, and 11 major decisions. A 1996 Olympic gold medalist and member of wrestling s Hall of Fame, Brands is only the eighth wrestling coach at the University of Iowa. The former Hawkeye wrestler was a four-time All-American and three-time national champion ( ) at Iowa. He has a (.908) overall and 84-7 (.923) Big Ten coaching record at Iowa, and a (.841) career mark. In 11 seasons as Iowa s head coach, Brands has led the Hawkeyes to three NCAA and four Big Ten team titles, crowning 10 NCAA champions, 15 Big Ten champions and 61 All-Americans. Iowa has had 89 Academic All-Big Ten recipients, including a school-record 12 in The Hawkeyes have qualifi ed 100 wrestlers for the NCAA Championships in the last 11 years, sending the entire 10-man lineup in 2009, 2010, 2014, and Iowa has also won or shared eight of the last 10 Big Ten regular season titles. Iowa also made another entry in the record books, setting the national collegiate dual meet attendance record of 42,287 when Iowa defeated top-ranked Oklahoma State, 18-16, on Nov. 14, 2015 at the Grapple on the Gridiron at Kinnick Stadium. Iowa has led the nation in attendance in each of Brands 11 seasons, setting an NCAA all-time attendance average of 12,166 in Brands was named 2008 NWCA Coach of the Year after leading the Hawkeyes to their fi rst NCAA team title since 2000 and their fi rst Big Ten team title since He was named Big Ten Coach of the Year in 2008, 2009 and 2010, becoming the fi rst coach in conference history to earn the honor in three consecutive seasons. Brands served as head coach at Virginia Tech University for two seasons ( ), recording a dual mark. In his fi rst season with the Hokies, Brands led the team to the 2005 regular season Atlantic Coast Conference title, set a school record for dual meet wins (16) and had a school-record fi ve wrestlers qualify for the NCAA Championships. During his tenure, Virginia Tech crowned fi ve ACC champions and had two All-Americans. Senior heavyweight Mike Faust was named 2006 ACC Wrestler of the Year. Prior to taking the helm at Virginia Tech, Brands was an assistant coach at Iowa for 12 seasons ( ). He helped the Hawkeyes to a dual record, seven NCAA and eight Big Ten team titles, while crowning 23 NCAA champions, 73 All-Americans and 36 Big Ten champions. He was named the National Wrestling Coaches Association Assistant Coach of the Year in In 2004, he was one of three coaches for the U.S. Olympic freestyle wrestling team, participating in Athens, and in 2016 he was named a volunteer coach of the United States Olympic team in Rio. Brands also served as assistant coach for the U.S. Freestyle World Teams in 2001, 2002, 2003, 2013, 2014, and He was named Freestyle Coach of the Year by USA Wrestling in 2002 and He has coached a number of other U.S. teams in international competition. As a competitor, Brands won the 1996 Olympic freestyle gold medal at pounds in Atlanta, Georgia. He also won a gold medal at the 1993 World Freestyle Championships in Toronto, two World Cup gold medals (1994, 1995) and was the 1995 Pan American Games champion. He won four U.S. National titles ( ) and made four straight U.S. World or Olympic teams ( ). Along with his twin brother, Terry, Tom was named 1993 USA Wrestling Athlete of the Year, the 1993 John Smith Outstanding Freestyle Wrestler, and 1993 Amateur Wrestling News Man of the Year. He was inducted into wrestling s Hall of Fame in Brands was a four-time All-American at Iowa ( ). During his Hawkeye career, he won three NCAA titles and was named Outstanding Wrestler of the 1992 NCAA Championships.
