1 GREC 2010 Annual School Meeting December 2-3, 2010 SESSION HIGHLIGHTS MARCIE ROGGOW Our keynote speaker will inspire us to remember that in today s economic climate, our students must receive a positive message. To deliver that positive message, instructors must begin with a positive attitude. Marcie s breakout sessions will address teaching the right stuff and the ethics of social media. CARL SCHULTZ Join Carl to get the latest on the changes made to the Uniform Standards on Professional Appraisal Practice. BRAD HANKS Brad will examine social media and it s integration in the real estate community. For a complete list of speakers and their bios visit: Keynote Speaker Marcie Roggow to Discuss Where Did All the Good Times Go? Remember when the classroom was FILLED with students? Remember when they were all smiling...and so were you? Well, who s in charge of that? YOU ARE! As instructors we need to send a positive message to our students, and maybe that starts with a positive attitude within us! Come down memory lane with Marcie. Reminisce and restore your attitude! Are We Teaching the Right Stuff? The Real Estate Commission determines what the licensees must know for licensure; however, the licensee comes out with a license and NO skill set, NO customer service, people skills and NO business planning. So if we want agents to STAY in the business after they are licensed, we have to answer the question, Are we teaching the right stuff? What s Ethics Got to Do with Social Media? Have you seen all of the violations out there on the social media sites? Violations of not only ethics but license law are everywhere. Let s make a plan to help licensees become more professional in the viral environment called Web 2.0, and that includes trainers too! 3200 Presidential Drive, Atlanta, GA Tel Fax For more details visit:
2 Monitoring and Managing Your Online Reputation With millions of conversations taking place daily on the social web, how can you be Brad Hanks sure you hear about those surrounding your good name, your company, your brand or your employees? What do you do in the event there are less-than-complimentary comments or feedback left? How do you create web listening outposts, and scan the social web for potential testimonials and recommendations for your business? In this session you ll discover: The risks involved in not listening or being a part of the conversation How to respond to negative feedback in the online social circles The 10 steps to monitoring and managing your online reputation How to get rave reviews and glowing testimonials placed in the most visible places Important tips to share with your audiences about online reputation management, regardless of the subject matter you re speaking about Today s Adult Education: Dealing With Technology-Induced A.D.D. Today s adult learner is not reading a book or knitting in class while you lecture; they re tweeting, ing, texting and surfing from their laptops, ipads and smart phones. Are they listening, or have they tuned you out completely? How do you respond to the new technology distractions for students in your sessions? Should a technology-free zone be established in your classroom? What about banning the use of these devices in certain sessions? Or can we channel these distractions into a productive feedback channel and use them to enhance our learning environment? Find out how to: Develop a new mindset to deal with the new distractions Establish technology ground rules in your classroom without being overbearing Share tips with your audience for using their distractions while still staying on task Create an instant feedback loop to channel their need to multi-task Make technology your learning aid in all your sessions, and provide a resource center for after the class Larry Fabrey Howell Haunson Shannon Judd Mike Nelson Carl Schultz AMP Examination Updates Explore the results of the recently-completed job analysis, which led to the creation of new examination specifications (content outlines) for the real estate licensing examinations. Hear about other brief updates in the Georgia real estate licensing examination program Then it s your turn to quiz Larry with your questions about the exam Contract Updates for PL Instructors Find out the 2011 changes to the GAR residential contract forms, as well as commercial, land, and other forms so that you may teach others. Methods of Finance Learn how to provide the real estate professional with a detailed understanding of how to maximize the current incentives and guidelines on FHA financing with HUD REOs. In promotion of homeownership, HUD and FHA have allowed for special incentives, lowered down payment requirements and provided special underwriting guidance for buyers purchasing HUD REOs with FHA 203(b) and 203k financing. This class will cover all the dos and don ts and will address several of the current misnomers regarding repair escrow, appraisal requirements, and the current hot topic of over bidding. You will be provided with a detailed overview of 203(b) and the often intimidating 203k financing and how to best guide your buyer through the HUD sales process. The class is being presented by PEMCO, Ltd., who is contracted by HUD to manage the sale of all HUD-owned properties in Georgia. Property Management and Trust Account Issues for Instructors After consulting with the GREC to identify the most common problems and violations among licensees related to managing property for others, join Mike to discover several techniques and best practices that licensees can use to successfully manage rental homes. The course objectives include identifying practices and techniques to help brokers and agents: Comply with license law while managing rental homes Properly account for trust funds while managing rental homes Deal with problems related to leasing homes within an HOA. Deal with problems related to foreclosures and trust accounting. Appraisal Law Changes and the Future Hear a synopsis of the changes made to the Uniform Standards on Professional Appraisal Practice for the period January 1, 2010 to December 31, Then join into a discussion of the proposed changes exposed for implementation and what is being studied for GREC PANEL Join GREC s Commissioner Jeff Ledford, Deputy Commissioner Craig Coffee, Education Advisor Charlotte Durant, and Investigators Margaret Snow and Diane Keys in a discussion session about the issues you are facing. Besides small classes and budgetary worries, what are your concerns? Curriculum? Instructors? Establishing school rules? Other Licensing or Enforcement Issues? Bring your questions and concerns to this lively session.
