Summer is here so it s time to have some fun and maybe learn a few new things before it s all done!! We are offering opportunities for children of all ages to participate in their favorite sport or activity or maybe try something new. We are sure to have a program to fit any busy schedule. Activities are scheduled for various lengths of time. Family vacations are taken into account. Children are allowed to be absent from an activity without their absence affecting their status on a team or in an activity. Team sport activities are structured so everyone plays. Students are to participate in activities according to the grade they will be entering in the FALL OF 2015 or by their age when programming begins. Please use the registration forms located on the cover of this booklet. Mail the registration form(s) and payment to the Community Schools Office BEFORE the start of each program. Please make checks payable to IM-K CS. We accept debit cards, Visa, MasterCard and Discover. There will be no confirmation of payment letter sent to you. Weather related cancellations will be announced on WJNR FM. There will be no classes or activities scheduled on Monday, June 29 th through Friday, July 3 rd. 4 Summer Baseball Leagues Camp Directors: Scott Jauquet, Andy Mendini, Jim Kralovec and Denise Tapio Camp Fee: $35.00 is due at registration. Camp Registration: We encourage players to register in person. You will be placed on a team at registration and be given a session time for the first practice. If you are unable to register in person, please call the CS Office to be placed on a team and then mail your form and payment to Community Schools. Registration for Summer Baseball will be on the following days: * Tuesday, June 2 nd - Woodland Elementary from 2:30 p.m. - 3:30 p.m. * Wednesday, June 3 rd - North Elementary School of the Arts from 3:00 p.m. - 4:00 p.m. Camp Description: This program will focus on the development of all players in their appropriate age group. Program placement will be determined by player's age on June 8, Our goal is to teach the players the game, improve their skills and encourage them to want to PLAY BALL!! T-Ball Coach-Pitch For 5 and 6 year old players A batting tee is used rather than a player or coach pitching the ball. The program will concentrate on ALL areas of the game. Players will work on basic fundamentals of baseball along with playing some league games. Practice will take place on Tuesday and Thursday mornings and will run for five weeks. Pitching Machine Baseball and Softball For 9-12 year old players A pitching machine is used instead of a pitcher. This level will focus on batting as well as fielding and situational play. Individual position instruction will be available. Practice will be held on Monday and Wednesday afternoons. The program will run for five weeks. Don t forget to bring your baseball glove!! For 7 and 8 year old players In the coach-pitch league, the coaches pitch to players according to their needs. Coaches will modify their speed and distance depending on the ability of the players. Players will also have the opportunity to work on all other areas of the game of baseball. Practice will take place on Monday and Wednesday mornings and will run for five weeks. Field Locations Lodal Park: The field at 1806 W. Breitung Ave. East Kingsford: The field is on East Breitung Ave./Ford St. Barkle Field: The field by the Mtn. View Ice Arena North Side Field: The field on Third St. Quinnesec Field: The field is on Lincoln St./Cliff St. First Practice will be at Quinnesec Field Camp Days and Times: Time slots will vary from week to week for each team. The season schedule will be handed out at the first practice. 5 Jr. High Quiz Camp Camp Director: Milt Wirth, Retired Teacher Camp Location: IM-K Community Schools Classroom at East Elementary Camp Description: Do you want to exercise your mind??? This program will prepare you for the Jr. High Quiz team. We will be asking you 100 s of questions and going over strategy. We will also have tournaments with prizes. Grades: Camp Dates: Camp Time: Camp Description: Students attend both weeks 4 th - 8 th Grades Monday - Thursday July 13 th - July 16 th July 20 th - July 23 rd 1:00 p.m. - 3:00 p.m. Students will learn about drama production including acting, simple set design and costumes. Class time will include theater games and activities teaching students drama techniques, leading to the production of a play on the final day of class. Archery Camp Camp Director: Matt Wonders, IMHS Teacher Camp Location: Central Middle School Gym Camp Fee: $ Call the Community Schools Office at to pre-register your child and then mail in your payment. Camp Description: Participants will be given a brief history of archery, instruction on parts of the bow and arrow, safety concepts, range set-up, Jr. Olympic Whistle System and proper shooting technique. Camp Description: Participants will receive pom poms and learn cheers, jumps, basic gymnastics and dance. There will be a performance for parents on Thursday, July 16 th. Beginning Elementary Spanish. Students will become familiar with pronunciations, new words, and sentence phrasing through activities such as games, songs and role play. Students will gain knowledge of Spanish vocabulary, sentence phrasing and everyday use, as well as Hispanic Culture, as they explore the world from a Spanish-speaking perspective. Soccer Camp Camp Director: Zach Frorenza, IMHS Soccer Coach Camp Fee: $ Mail your registration form & payment to the CS Office Camp Location: Mountaineer Stadium - Practice Field (Central Middle School Gym if it is raining) Camp Description: Each participant will receive a soccer ball. Players will learn the basic skills of soccer, such as field positioning, dribbling, passing, and GOAL!! Players must wear tennis shoes or soccer cleats. In case of inclement weather, the program will be held in the gym. All players must wear tennis shoes in the gym. 7 Arts & Crafts Camp Director: Camp Location: Katie Faucett, IM-K CS Pre-School Teacher Woodland Elementary - Room K01 Camp Description: This class is for 5½ through 8 year olds and will be held on Mondays from 11:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. Please pack a snack for your child. Camp Fee: $ Call the Community Schools Office at to pre-register your child and then mail in your payment. There is a maximum of 20 children for this class. The program will start the week of June 8 th and will run for five weeks. Children must be potty trained. Children will be involved in many fun activities ranging from craft projects to games and nature walks. Please pack a snack for your child. 8 Iron Mountain Basketball Camp Camp Directors: IMHS Basketball Staff Camp Fee: $ Mail your registration form and payment to the CS Office. Camp Description: This summer's camp will be teaching fundamentals such as ball handling, passing, shooting, rebounding, team play and defense through repetition and drill work. The campers will be schooled on drills that they may use to make themselves better all-around basketball players. Each player will receive their own basketball so they may work on the drills at home during the summer. Game play may take place if time permits. Camp Description: This new offering from Community Schools allows all area high school basketball players the opportunity for more court time throughout the summer. A portion of the program will allow players to work on their game with individual and group drills. The other portion of the program will allow players to just come in and play." Players will be divided up into teams nightly and have the opportunity to play with students from other school districts. This is a one time fee for this camp, whether you show for all six sessions or just one. This summer s camp will focus on basketball fundamentals with an emphasis on shooting form and technique. The camp will also offer game play and shooting competitions. 10 Tennis Camp Camp Director: Alec Tuchowski, Division II Tennis Player at LSSU Camp Location: Kingsford High School Tennis Courts Camp Fee: $ Mail your registration form and payment to the CS Office.. Camp Description: The lessons begin the week of June 8 th and will run through July 30 th. There will be a tennis tournament during the week of August 3 rd for camp participants. Players will attend two classes per week. See schedule below. The lessons are designed to be fun and instructive. Lessons are available for all ability levels. Beginners will learn basic fundamentals while intermediate & advanced players will improve their skills, expand their shot making ability, and work on the mental aspects of the game. Players need to furnish their own rackets. 1 st - 3 rd Grades 4 th - 6 th Grades 7 th - 12 th Grades Our coaches will ensure that fun is a propriety while children learn all aspects of the game. Players will work on basic fundamentals such as proper grip, hand eye coordination and other athletic skills. They will be hand-fed the tennis balls for instructional hitting drills. Players will continue to develop techniques with drills in timing, footwork, shot selection and making the ideal stroke. Players will also be introduced to match play. Tennis etiquette and scoring will also be discussed. Players will work on consistent shot selection and form to build confidence. Players will also work on strong serving techniques and participate in instructional drills. They will learn winning strategies and work on mental toughness. Camp Description: Each participant will receive a football. This camp will focus on the fundamentals of football. Players will learn basic footwork, starts, passing, catching, hand-offs and other important aspects of the game. Wrestlers need to wear t-shirts and gym shorts. Camp Description: Players will learn the game of golf or improve current skills. All sessions are focused on safety and having FUN! 12 Bowling Camp Camp Directors: Pete and Cathy Tomassoni, Certified Instructors Camp Location: Recreation Lanes - Iron Mountain Camp Fee: $ Mail your registration form & payment to the CS Office. Camp Description: Each participant will be provided bowling shoes and ball. Players will learn the basic fundamentals of bowling such as stance, approach, release, spare and strike making systems. This camp will offer league play and keep averages. Remember with bowling, IT S ALL ABOUT THE FUN! Grades: Camp Dates: Camp Time: Bumper Bowling: For 1 st and 2 nd graders or other students who would benefit from having the gutters blocked with bumpers. Regular Bowling: For 3 rd grade and up or any students not wanting to bowl with bumpers. Tuesdays and Thursdays Starting Date: June 9 th Ending Date: July 23 rd 12:30 p.m. - 1:45 p.m. Sewing Camp Camp Directors: Sally Beauchamp and Ashton Verley, IM-K CS Staff Camp Location: IM-K Community Schools Home Ec. Room (Former Central Elementary School Building) Camp Fee: $ Call the Community Schools Office at to pre-register your child and then mail in your payment. There is a maximum of 15 students in the class. Camp Description: This course is for beginner and intermediate level students. The course will cover sewing machine operation, material selection, pattern layout and construction. Projects to choose from are: pajama pants, simple tops, small quilts, pillows, purse, apron or curtains. Students are required to purchase the supplies for their chosen project after the first class. Sewing tools such as sewing machines, scissors, pins, tape measures, etc. will be provided. All in-class sewing will be supervised. Grades: Camp Dates: Students attend all 3 weeks Tuesdays and Thursdays Camp Time: 6 th - 12 th Grades July 14 th and July 16 th July 21 st and July 23 rd July 28 th and July 30 th 10:00 a.m. - 12:00 noon There will be no classes or activities scheduled on Monday, June 29 th through Friday, July 3 rd.

13 IM-K CS Summer Child Care Program Program Director: Christine Rice, Child Care Supervisor and Pre-School Teacher Program Location: North Elementary Child Care - Room 200 Program Fee: $3.00 per hour - $2.00 per hour each additional child Program Times: Starting June 8 th from 6:30 a.m. - 5:30 p.m. The last day of summer child care is Wednesday, September 2 nd. Program Description: The IM-K Community Schools Child Care is for children who are 3 years old through 12 years old. The children will participate in many fun activities like arts and crafts, nature walks and gym time. We will also have fun activities for the Themes of the Week. Free breakfast and lunch will be provided by the Breitung Township Schools Summer Food Service Program. If you need more information or you would like to enroll your child, please call the IM-K CS Office at Woodland Summer Child Care Program Program Director: Sharon Quick-Dulan, Child Care Supervisor Program Location: Woodland Child Care Center Program Fee: $3.00 per hour - $2.00 per hour each additional child Program Times: Starting June 8 th from 6:30 a.m. - 6:00 p.m. The last day of summer child care is Thursday, August 27 th. Program Description: Woodland Child Care Center will be providing quality care for children 2-1/2 through 11 years old this summer. The program will include arts and crafts, science and exploration activities, computer time, outdoor play, water play and tons of fun! Free breakfast and lunch will be provided by the Breitung Township Schools Summer Food Service Program. For more information please contact Sharon Quick-Dulan at or squick@kingsford.org Summer Food Service Program Program Director: Vicki Waterman, BTS - Director of Food Service FREE Program Dates: June 8 th - August 14 th Program Fee: FREE for all children up to age 18. Adults are $2.75. Persons up to age 26 who are enrolled in an educational program for the mentally or physically disabled and recognized by a state or local public educational agency are also invited to join us free of charge.
