1 Week of Welcome 2012

2 Welcome to the University of Oregon! Fall is an exciting time for all of us at the UO as we gear up for the new school year and welcome new students. To introduce you to our campus community, we offer activities before classes begin that let you check out the university s array of resources, meet new people, and make new friends. We call this event Week of Welcome (WOW). During WOW you discover how to get involved in activities that enhance your academic career and support your personal interests. You learn how to take advantage of such resources as the university s academic learning services, computing services, employment opportunities, health services, and more. And the week would not be complete without participating in a number of social events and outdoor activities. Two of the events you certainly won t want to miss: InterMingle on Friday, September 21, offers you great food, casino games, live music, and much more in the Erb Memorial Union. Convocation on Sunday, September 23, is the University s traditional welcome to new students on the University of Oregon campus! A warm welcome to all incoming students who we wish great success in the upcoming fall term! Our newly appointed UO President Michael Gottfredson will be our featured speaker and is excited to meet you. Gottfredson has served as executive vice-chancellor and provost and professor of Criminology, Law and Society at the University of California at Irvine since Among the many accomplishments during his tenure at UC-Irvine, Gottfredson led efforts to significantly grow enrollment, add new faculty, degree programs, facilities, schools, and departments. Convocation is set for 3:30 p.m. on the Sunday before fall term classes begin and will take place at Matthew Knight Arena on the UO campus. Doors open at 3:00 p.m. See You at WOW!
