Bruce Bradley Deputy Grand Knight Jim Goode Inside this issue: GK Report 1 General News 2-4 Calendar 5-7 Brothers, Grand Knight s Report Brad Istas Thanks to all who worked and supported this year s Plano Balloon Festival. A special thanks to Danny Nutt for chairing and organizing this event. Even though the weather didn t cooperate with us, this year s event was a success. As Grand Knight for Council 7850 I am always amazed at the selfless ways you men come to serve. The Plano Balloon festival is one of the best examples of how our Council comes together and works very hard toward a common goal. Working events like this is a great way to meet and get to know your Brother Knights. Thanks again to all of you who were involved in planning, purchasing, cooking, setup, teardown, selling, and spreading cheer and good will. You are making a difference in our community. The month of September brought us the infamous Tamale Sales. Members of the parish look forward to their opportunity to purchase tamales and support the Knights of Columbus. Thanks to Bob and Mary Ann Wilson for their dedication and hard work in making this event the success that it is. Thanks to all of you who worked to sell tamales after each Mass. Thank you to those members who worked multiple shifts. I know the following text and paragraph is about the same month after month but I feel it needs to be said. Thanks for reading: I encourage all of you to be an active member of your council. Even if you can t work as a volunteer you can join in and provide moral support to the council. We are working very hard to keep the meetings interesting and moving along. Attending a meeting is a great way for you to meet and socialize with other Catholic men. Council meetings are usually held on the second Monday of the month starting at 7:30pm. We meet to pray the rosary at 7:00pm just prior to the meeting. Come and pray with us. Both are eager to get involved in our council events and activities, and are considering attending the Major Degree at Famers Branch on October 23rd. They are also eager to begin working on their Shining Armor Awards and to getting immersed in the Knights organization. 3 2016 Hike for Life at John Paul II H.S. On a beautiful Saturday morning, September 24th, the annual Plano Hike for life took place. The opening ceremony included presenting and posting of the flags by the Knights of Columbus Color Corps, a prayer, and a couple of brief announcements. The weather was a little breezy but just right for the hikers. Both Ron Engler and our Squires Circle team participated in the fund raising hike. Following the hike Council Prince of Peace provided hot dogs and chips for everyone. Money raised go to the pregnancy crises centers Plano Balloon Festival This year s balloon festival took place on Friday, September 23rd through Sunday, September 25th at Oak Point Park in Plano. The Council continued its tradition of 20+ years of serving the residents of Plano by selling cold drinks, coffee, and breakfast. Over 35 Knights, members of the Ladies Auxiliary, and wives volunteered for a three day weekend of work and fun. Financially, the event was not as profitable as in the past due to the event closing early Saturday evening due to pending storms and Sunday being a total washout after breakfast. The event committee would like to thank everyone who helped, especially John Carlson who helped with setup and was responsible for breakfast, Tom Clarke who helped with setup, was responsible for coffee, and helped with breakfast teardown on Sunday, Steve Ousey for help with setup, Richard Mott for his help with obtaining 2 additional feather banners, Ron Engler for making and mounting signs. Special thanks to both John Carlson and Greg Shields for their assistance with tear down and unloading in the pouring rain on Sunday. Council Page 3
4 Special thanks to everyone who worked multiple shifts as well. We hope to see you all again on September 22, 23, and 24, 2017!
