SPEAKERS Gary Book ASSISTANT VICE PRESIDENT RETAIL CREDIT UNDERWRITING, FARM CREDIT MID AMERICA Topic: Grow Your Operation, Strategic Growth Gary has been with Farm Credit Mid America since June 2011.

He has been a part of the Growing Forward program since its inception in 2014. Gary grew up on a row crop and farrow to finish hog operation in Southeastern Indiana.

He attended Indiana University Southeast, majoring in history, and began work at Farm Credit after graduation. He continues to assist his family with field work in the spring and fall, and is a part of the financial decisionmaking on the farm. 3 James serves as director of the Center for Commercial Agriculture. He joined Purdue s faculty in 2009, and served as assistant director of Extension for agriculture and natural resources before taking on his director responsibilities at the center. Prior to his time at Purdue, James was an Extension state leader in the Department of Agricultural Economics at Kansas State University for 23 years. He holds a bachelor s and a master s degree in agricultural economics from Purdue University and a Ph.D. from the University of Missouri. James acquired his interest in agriculture while working on his family s farm in the Mississippi and Missouri river bottoms just north of St. Louis. Over the course of his career, he has received numerous awards, including Outstanding Extension Program awards from both the American Agricultural Economics Association and the Western Agricultural Economics Association. In addition to the American Agricultural Economics Association s Premier Forecaster Award for his livestock production and price forecasts. James is also the author of more than 200 publications focusing on economics of the livestock industry. Jolene Brown CHAMPION OF AGRICULTURE, PROFESSIONAL SPEAKER, FAMILY BUSINESS CONSULTANT, AUTHOR Topic: Stress Relief, Farm and Family Life Jolene is an award winning communicator and a Certified Speaking Professional. She's known as a champion of agriculture, whether from the platform, in magazines or on television or the radio. Jolene s popular book Sometimes You Need More Than a 2x4! contains how to tips so those in agriculture can increase productivity, profitability and peace of mind. As co owner and active partner of an Eastern Iowa corn and soybean farm, her practical experience includes plugging a grain auger, hypnotizing chickens and entertaining folks behind the equipment parts counter.

Dakota Everts GROWING FORWARD SPECIALIST, FARM CREDIT MID AMERICA Topic: Future of Agriculture Dakota has been with Farm Credit Mid America since May 2014.

She now works to educate customers in the Young and Beginning market segments. Dakota graduated from Purdue University in May 2014.

Dakota graduated from Purdue University in May She received her bachelor s degree in agribusiness, with a concentration in finance. Dakota is a native of West Central Indiana, where she and her family raise market lambs. She loves that she gets to combine her love of agriculture and finance every day at Farm Credit. Peyton Fair GROWING FORWARD SPECIALIST, FARM CREDIT MID AMERICA Topic: Future of Agriculture Peyton began her career with Farm Credit Mid America in May She is responsible for establishing relationships, providing education and outreach and monitoring credit quality in the Young, Beginning and Emerging market segments throughout Kentucky and Tennessee.

Peyton grew up on her family s diversified farming operation in Southwestern Tennessee, and is passionate about the future of production agriculture.

She volunteers with FFA at the local, state and national levels, and is involved in Farm Bureau Young Farmers and Ranchers and the National Agri Marketing Association. Peyton received her bachelor s degree in agriculture and resource economics from the University of Tennessee in She and her husband, Jeremy, own and operate a cow/calf and sheep operation in Western Tennessee. Ron Hanson NEAL E. HARLAN PROFESSOR OF AGRIBUSINESS DEPARTMENT OF AGRICULTURAL ECONOMICS, UNIVERSITY OF NEBRASKA LINCOLN Topic: Succession Planning, Agribusiness Ron s teaching and advising career has earned him 31 university and national recognition during the past 40 years. He has been selected as the Outstanding Ag College Professor, and has received the John Deere Agribusiness Teaching Award of Excellence. He has been recognized by the University Parents Association 22 times for contributions to students, and honored as University of Nebraska Educator of the Year. He has also received the U.S. Department of Agriculture Excellence in University Teaching Award, and was named Nebraska Professor of the Year by the Carnegie Foundation in Washington, D.C. Raised on an Illinois family farm, he earned a bachelor s degree from Western Illinois University and a master s degree and a Ph.D. from the University of Illinois.

6 Michael Langemeier PROFESSOR DEPARTMENT OF AGRICULTURAL ECONOMICS, PURDUE UNIVERSITY Topic: Strategic Business Planning, Farm Management Michael joined Purdue in July Michael s Extension and research interests include cropping systems, benchmarking, strategic management, cost of production and technical and economic efficiency. Most of Michael s research has focused on the efficiency of farms and ranches, and crop and livestock enterprise production costs and efficiency. He has also conducted research related to tillage systems, biomass crops and the tradeoff between crop rotation profitability and water quality. Prior to arriving at Purdue, Michael spent 22 years in the Department of Agricultural Economics at Kansas State University. He also conducted workshops for feed mill managers, emphasizing the importance of tracking financial performance, benchmarking and capital budgeting. Michael received a bachelor s degree and a master s degree from the University of Nebraska Lincoln. His Ph.D. is from Purdue. Michael s family operates farms in Eastern Nebraska.
