1 Arlington Public Library FALL PROGRAM CALENDAR & d e r u t Fea Fa s t n e v E mily Día de los Muertos Saturday, October 27, 2018 George W. Hawkes Downtown Library 1-4 p.m. Join us for an afternoon to learn about Día de los Muertos (Day of the Dead) with crafts and activities for the family. Día de los Muertos is a Mexican holiday that honors family and friends who have passed on by building ofrendas and coming together to celebrate the life of a loved ones. At 2:00 p.m. we will have a special showing of Disney s, Coco in the City Council Chambers. Makerspace will be holding a sugar skulls inspired craft for teens with the help of our 3D Printer at 1:00 p.m. Genealogy will be holding two sessions to make copies of photos you would like us to incorporate into our community ofrenda: Tuesday, October 23rd from 5-8 p.m. and Saturday, October 27th from 2-6 p.m. Medieval Arts Festival Saturday, November 3, 2018 George W. Hawkes Downtown Library Noon-5 p.m. Experience the Middle Ages as history comes to life! Festivities will include stories, games and activities for children. There will be exhibits of medieval arts and sciences, and live demonstrations of ancient weaponry, as well as food trucks and vendors. Door prizes donated by Theatre Arlington, Scarborough Renaissance Festival and Medieval Times. This event is for all ages. Touch-a-Truck Saturday, December 1, :30 a.m. (9-10 a.m. - Quiet Hour) First United Methodist Church 313 N. Center St., Arlington, TX The Library s annual Touch-a-Truck event gives kids of all ages a safe opportunity to experience trucks first hand. This all-ages event features big trucks and other vehicles in the community, allowing children to sit behind the wheel, climb in the back, or perch on the bumpers. Drivers and operators will be on-hand to answer questions and explain how everything works. This event is for all ages. Visit arlingtonlibrary.org for more information on any of our programs.

9 WHICH STORYTIME IS RIGHT FOR MY FAMILY? Baby + Me Storytime focuses on developing your baby s pre-literacy skills. This lap-sitstorytime will help improve motor, sensory, and social skills with calm, caregiver and baby play time. Storytimes include useful baby sign language, as well as literacy tips and activities to do with a baby during their specific daily routines. Family Storytime is appropriate for your whole family, with books, songs, rhymes, movement activities, and more! This storytime helps reinforce a lifelong love of learning in children as well as offers parents, caregivers, and children reading techniques and new ideas about how to fully engage with reading. Toddler Time taps into the boundless energy of your toddler with short stories, fingerplays, action rhymes, and songs. Your toddler will be learning sounds, letter recognition, and new words that will help them grow into pre-readers all while having fun. Preschool Storytime will improve literacy skills that your child needs for their upcoming kindergarten year. This storytime features longer books which are accompanied by a variety of activities. Born to Stand Out is a choose your own adventure type of storytime for all ages and abilities, including sensory friendly activities. Participants will have the freedom throughout the program to explore the various sensory centers that focus on storytelling, play and more. We hope that this will provide a fun and comfortable environment for parents of children with special needs to get together and share their experiences.
