1 BOARDS COMMISSIONS Monthly Action Report and For the Edmond City Council and Members of the Boards and Commissions November 2013 News from Boards and Commissions Fish & Game Commission The Fish and Game Commission met on November 12th, the following is the update for the month: Commission members welcomed our newest Fish & Game Commission member, K.C. Williams. Discussion and Consideration of a Representative for the Convention & Tourism Advisory Board; Motion passed unanimously to elect Alex Allen as the commissions representative. Arcadia Lake Monthly maintenance and revenue report shows the following information; October weather conditions had a high for the month of 90 degrees and a low of 32 with an average temperature of 62.3 degrees, 3.42 inches of precipitation. Nice weather has kept visitation up for the month. Storybook Forest was held October 23 rd through the 30 th with approximately 5700 kids. October revenues were up more than $9,600 compared to October of last year. Fiscal Year to Date Revenue is up more than $58,000 over last year for the same time. The fifth Deer Harvest of the season concluded on November 4 th with a total to date of 8 antlered and 16 antlerless deer harvested. For more information, please contact Earl London at Edmond Parks and Recreation Advisory Board The Edmond Parks & Recreation Advisory Board met on November 21 st ; the following is the update for the month: The Edmond 66 Park construction is nearing completion. The playground that was donated by Edmond Rotary Club will be installed by the end of the year. Games are still expected to begin in spring of A ribbon cutting ceremony will be planned for March The Edmond Recreation and Aquatic Center will open the first of February and will be known as the Mitch Park YMCA. Public tours of the facility began in November. Trail project updates are as follows; three engineering firms have been interviewed for the design of the Arcadia Lake Trail loop. The three firms are MKEC, Alta and Land Plan Consultants. Once a firm is chosen for recommendation to City Council, if approved the Design work could begin as early as January The Fox Lake Trail is planned for 1

2 completion by midsummer The Spring Creek Trail construction is planned to begin early in Parks and Recreation Star Employee this month was KickingBird Golf Center Superintendant, Brad Jolliff. Brad s outstanding efforts of maintaining the golf course after starting the season extremely short staffed has also earned him the City of Edmond s Mission Impossible award. Interviews are in process for the design of Edmond s first Splash Pad. Once a design firm is chosen and approved by City Council the next step will be sending out request for proposals for the construction. Tuscan Park II Preliminary Plat Approved For more information, please contact Bob Schiermeyer at Edmond Bicycle Committee (EBC) The Edmond Bicycle Committee held their monthly meeting Friday, November 8th. The calendar of meeting dates for 2014 was approved. The recent Open Streets- Edmond special event was discussed and reviewed for improvements next time. The Thursday Nov. 7 Evening Cycling Forum was also discussed and reviewed. The evaluation of the 1 st and 2 nd priority areas of the Bicycle Master Plan was moving along with an in-depth study for capacity and other evaluation criteria. Under staff update, it was announced that the draft environmental assessment for the Arcadia Lake Trail would be going out soon for public comment. The next Arcadia Lake Trail Coalition meeting will be Nov. 13 at 3:30 PM at the UCO OAR. The City of Edmond Parade of Lights on Saturday, Dec. 7 was discussed with a Christmas party at the Fees residence after the parade. A new sub-committee was formed for Bike to School, with their first meeting being Tuesday, Nov. 19 at Oklahoma Christian University. For more information, please contact Jan Fees at

4 Visual Arts Commission The Visual Arts Commission met on November 20th, the following is an update for the month: 2014 meeting dates were approved to remain the 4 th Wednesday of each month with the exception of November and December which will be moved to the 3 rd Wednesday due to holiday schedules and the location will remain at the Downtown Community Center. Commission members voted to approve partnering with Dr. Jayesh Panchal for the purchase of Sitting Knee Up an art piece by Susan Evans. This art piece is planned for the location of 2505 S. Kelly Ave. UCO fine arts major Melissa Perry, gave a power point presentation on playscapes (interactive art/play pieces). This information broadened mindsets on the possibility of using art pieces for multiple functions. Commission members were asked to consider a location for Touch the Clouds an art piece by Dave McGary that is currently located in Houston, Texas in front of the Astrodome. This piece is being considered by the City Council and if approved will need a location to be considered as well. For more information, please contact Craig Dishman at Central Edmond Urban District Board The Central Edmond Urban District Board held their monthly meeting on November 15th. The commercial site plan application for the Full-filled Coffee Café, to be located at 603 S. Boulevard was discussed and recommended for approval. The calendar of meeting dates for 2014 was approved. It was noted on December 4, there would be a workshop with the Downtown Master Plan consultants with pizza dinner before the meeting. It was also discussed to invite Thomas Small to the December meeting to make a presentation on the feasibility of using the current Police Department Building for Administration offices. For more information, please contact Jan Fees at KickingBird Golf Advisory Board The Kickingbird Golf Advisory Board met November 20th, the following are course updates: Edmond North BALTO Tournament November 1 st 1 st Annual Lee Smith Memorial Tournament November 6 th UCO Professional Golf Management November 8 th 9 th UCO Professional Golf Management November 18 th Started the chipping green/ bunker renovation. Our target is a 3000 ft 2 green (roughly twice as big) and a bunker that is roughly 700 ft 2 (roughly a 30% reduction) Tested a new poa control product on the putting green. Tests were conducted by Oklahoma State University There were 2,281 rounds played resulting in over $97,077 in revenue. 4

5 Golf Advisory Board: There was no Golf Advisory Board Meeting held on November 20 th. We have scheduled a Special Meeting on Wednesday, December 4 th. We will be discussing the sand and liner to be used for our bunker renovation project and look further into no fivesomes on the weekends. For more information, please contact Brian Soerensen at Edmond Historic Preservation Trust The Trust board conducted their regular meeting on November 5. The Downtown Edmond Business Association will be holding their morning meeting for November 14 in the Schoolhouse. Work continues on the new agreement for the Society and Trust on use of the Schoolhouse. It is hoped to be completed in December. Sixty potential sites have been identified for usage in the Edmond Historical Sites map which is currently being developed. The Trust also voted to recognize the Edmond Public Schools for their efforts to restore the old High School (Boulevard Academy).
