1 Unmasking the Dead: Temporal, Cultural, and Personal Identification 13 th Annual Midwest Bioarchaeology and Forensic Anthropology Association Meeting (BARFAA) Illinois State Museum, Springfield, Illinois. November 3-5, 2006 The thirteenth annual meeting of the Midwest Bioarchaeology and Forensic Anthropology Association will be co-hosted by the Illinois State Museum, Springfield and the Illinois Transportation Archaeological Research Program, University of Illinois, Urbana-Champaign. The meeting will consist of formal and informal paper

2 presentations, open discussions, and poster presentations, as well as workshops and an opportunity to show and tell interesting or puzzling specimens. Works in progress and student presentations are strongly encouraged. The goal of this conference is to provide a forum for osteologists, physical anthropologists, forensic anthropologists, and bioarchaeologists to share current research. This year s theme (in honor of the holiday season) is presented as a suggestion only. All topics related to bioarchaeology and forensic anthropology are welcome. Abstracts: Please abstracts (150 words or less) to Kristin Hedman (khedman@uiuc.edu) by August 18 th, Registration: Registration form will be posted soon on the BARFAA website. Registration fee is $35 before September 15, On-site registration fee is $40. T-shirt and Poster Orders: Don t miss this opportunity! Details coming soon on the BARFAA website. Tour of the Museum of Funeral Customs** (see note below): Pre-registration (including a $3 fee) can be completed on the meetings registration form. We urge everyone who is interested to pre-register so that we will know how many people to expect. The Museum of Funeral Customs features exhibits on American funeral and mourning customs, funerary art and practice. Resources that are potentially available to researchers include trade catalogs, examples of coffin hardware, mourning clothing and jewelry, etc. Check out their website at Hotels: List of Springfield hotels will be posted soon on the BARFAA website. (Tentative) Conference Agenda: Friday evening 6:30-8:30 PM: Welcoming Reception at the Illinois State Museum, onsite registration, hors d oeuvres, cash bar, and music provided by our own Dr. Stephen Nawrocki.
