2 Work, Life, Balance: The next step in Leadership April 28 30, 2017 Peppermill, Reno Dear Colleagues, Our ACSA Regions 1, 2, 3, and 4 North State Spring Conference April 28 to 30, 2017, strives to bring forward an array of professional development opportunities that are unmatched in northern California. Previous attendees have found much needed support, camaraderie, and professional skill development to be a part of the foundational structure of this conference, and we wish to continue that tradition for all Northern California Educators and beyond! This year s venue, The Peppermill, Reno, offers a full service resort, complete with a wide range of exceptional restaurants, theme bars, cafes, wine bars, gaming venues, and onsite concierge services. The tradition of the ACSA North State Scholarship Golf Tournament continues on April 27, and you can count on having one of the best vacation days you have ever had if you make it to the course. An evening full of networking awaits you after the tournament. See the enclosed flyer for the Golf Tournament and plan for a great day! The conference content seeks to help you maintain your sustainability both professionally and personally! The conference begins at 10 a.m. Friday with an exciting and engaging keynote by Hall Davidson from Discovery Education. Following lunch there will be interactive sessions using the newest educational tech tools from Discovery, our popular Tech Slam will move to Friday afternoon followed by an interaction session on Career Pathways! At 5:30 the conference will formally open with keynote, Wes Smith, followed by our Welcome Reception. Our conference focuses on cutting edge issues that will impact your ability to implement the best in education strategies immediately in your districts. Further, the associated events and activities are planned to support you in renewing and refreshing your personal commitment to yourself and your students. Before coming to Discovery, he served for 15 years as director of educational services at KOCE-TV, a PBS station in Orange County, CA. He serves on the board for California's Computer- Using Educators. Dr. Wesley Smith is executive director of the Assn. of Calif. School Administrators, the largest school leadership group in the nation. ACSA is foremost a champion for the state s more than 6 million students. Having served in a variety of school leadership roles, Dr. Smith understands the intricacies and influences in public education. He believes in a bold new future for ACSA and ensuring it is the most influential voice in public education for years to come. CEO/President, McRel International. 6 Exploring the Future of Teaching and Learning Friday, April 28, :00AM 2:00PM (Lunch Included) The Peppermill Reno, NV Featuring: Hall Davidson Senior Director of Global Learning Initiatives Discovery Education Join Discovery Education for an immersive session exploring how digital content and educational technologies are shaping the future of teaching and learning. During an interactive presentation, futurist Hall Davidson will demonstrate how technology can be integrated into classroom instruction to improve student engagement and academic achievement. Participants will then experience what today s digital learning environments look like through innovative technologies such as virtual reality and explore inquiry-based digital learning opportunities. This session will inform participants about what future classrooms may look like, and provoke thoughtful discussion around how schools are meeting the ever-changing needs of all students as well as the increasing demands of college and career expectations.
