2 Join the Missing Types Movement Foundation Participates in Red Cross Missing Types Movement The letters A and O will be removed from the Foundation logo on the Foundation website from Monday, June 11 through Tuesday, July 3 in participation of the Red Cross Missing Types Movement. You might not realize how important the letters A, B and O are until they re gone. But, for a patient in need of lifesaving blood, those letters mean everything. The Foundation will be participating in the Red Cross Missing Types Movement to help raise awareness and fill in the missing types. The Red Cross needs your help to fill the missing blood types so patients can receive the lifesaving care they need. 4 Innovation Brew Works Wins Big in Local Beer Competitions Innovation Brew Works (IBW) at Cal Poly Pomona brought home big wins at both the 2018 San Diego International Beer Competition and the 2018 Los Angeles International Beer Competition this past month. Innovation Brew Works received the following awards: 2018 San Diego International Beer Competition: GOLD MEDAL - Cattle Rancher (Hybrid Belgian-Style Ale) BRONZE MEDAL - New World Bavarian Rye (Rye Beer) BRONZE MEDAL - Brethren Belgian (Belgian-Style Pale Strong Ale) Cattle Rancher Int Hybrid Belgian-Style Ale Cattle Rancher American Belgo-Style Ale New World Bavarian Rye Rye Beer Brethren Belgian Belgian-Style Pale Strong Ale 2018 Los Angeles International Beer Competition: SILVER MEDAL - Cattle Rancher (American Both competitions are highly competitive in the brewing industry and recognize only the finest beers. The San Diego International Beer Competition featured over 1,500 entries with participation from more than 250 breweries nationwide! The talented brewers and staff at Innovation Brew Works are thrilled about this accomplishment and are looking forward to many more. Winning these medals at these prestigious events places Innovation Brew Works amongst the finest breweries in the world today, says Aaron Neilson, Cal Poly Pomona Foundation Dining Services Director. This marks the first time we have been recognized by the brewing industry for the quality of our beer. ong Ale 4
5 Los Olivos Celebrates Cinco de Mayo The Cinco de Mayo luncheon at Los Olivos was a fun fiesta filled with an array of food and entertainment. The menu was filled with delectable cuisines, including enchiladas, taquitos, carnitas, ceviche and much more. For those with a sweet tooth, tres leches cake and a variety of churros were available for dessert. To complete the ambiance, a live mariachi band played throughout the event. Foundation Marketing also set up a photo booth for all attendees to strike a pose in celebration of the holiday. To view upcoming dining events, visit Foundation to Present at CBORD User Group Conference Aaron Neilson has been selected to present a session on innovation at the CBORD User Group Conference taking place in Las Vegas on October The title of the presentation will be Comprehensive POS Strategies on Your Campus - Lessons and Best Practices. The CBORD User Group Conference is the year s most important education and networking opportunity for CBORD users. This conference will feature new educational sessions along with new certification opportunities. 5
6 Bronco Bookstore Blurbs... Bronco Bookstore at 2018 Commencement The Bronco Bookstore will have two merchandise tent locations at the 2018 commencement ceremonies - one in front of Campus Center Marketplace and another on Olive Lane. The inside location at Campus Center Marketplace will no longer be in operation due to the replacement by the exterior location. Both locations will offer Cal Poly Pomona merchandise to guests and families of the graduates, including Grad Plush, Alumni Gear, Family Gear and much more. Congratulations to all of the 2018 grads - including all of our very own graduating student employees! Textbook Incentive Winners The Bronco Bookstore would like to give a shout-out to the following departments for getting their fall semester adoptions in on time. Thank you for all your hard work! 7 Innovation Brew Works Blurbs... Second Annual Homebrew Competition Innovation Brew Works (IBW) has just announced the winners for the Second Annual Homebrew Competition! This year IBW registered and had the competition sanctioned through the Beer Judge Certification Program (BJCP). Several guest judges were present and were either BJCP certified, or certified cicerones who assisted with the judging. The competition had a total of 46 entries, but only one could be victorious. Bjorn Erik Enki Gjesdal took first place with his American IPA named Bjorn Identity. Innovation Brew Works will be scheduling a date for him to brew a large batch of Bjorn Identity with the IBW brew team. Bjorn Erik Enki Gjesdal s winning brew will also be featured on tap in the Innovation Brew Works taproom. New Beer Release on June 25 Innovation Brew Works newest release, Double Vision, will be released in the tap room on Friday, June 25. Along with the new brew, IBW will release a glass with a new IPA logo, during a steal the glass event to be announced. IBW to Attend California Craft Beer Summit Innovation Brew Works will be attending the California Craft Beer Summit on Septemeber 8 in Sacramento. Over 160 different craft breweries will also be in attendance bringing their best beers to the annual celebration. Come out and support IBW! 7

12 Foundation Promotes Eat Well Campaign at HealthFest 2018 Foundation launched the Eat Well at CPP campaign in spring quarter to increase awareness of the delicious and accessible options available to the campus community and promoted it during HealthFest on Thursday, May 3. HealthFest is an annual event hosted by the Student Health and Counseling Services that highlights and encourages healthy living. Various campus departments and outside vendors come to University Park to advertise their services, distribute freebies, offer information and promote anything related to wellness. The Foundation handed out a rack sheet with information on the Eat Well program as well as displayed a variety of options with the Eat Well logo that are available for purchase on campus. For more information on the Eat Well program, please visit Arnold Zavalza Awarded a Certificate of Appreciation Los Olivos Chef Arnold Zavalza and Innovation Brew Works head brewer Eric Bassett collaborated with the College of AG and local chefs at the Farm to Table Spring Harvest Dinner on Saturday, April 14 at Cal Poly Pomona. Arnold Zavalza prepared the menu for the Farm to Table Spring Harvest Dinner and provided excellent service to all in attendance. The Foundation Dining team held a small celebration to show their appreciation for all of Zavalza s hard work during the event. Arnold was presented with a certificate of appreciation for his contributions to the Cal Poly Pomona Farm to Table Spring Harvest Dinner. 12
