2 Cluster Connection ANNOUNCEMENTS FROM AROUND THE CLUSTER St. Patrick s School News School News from September Wednesday, September 19 School Pictures AM Friday, September 21 Mass - 3rd Grade If there are younger siblings of students at St. Patrick's School that would like to have their pictures taken, please have them at in the church basement by 8 AM on September 19th. Scrip order forms will now be available at St. Mary s and St. Andrew s. If you wish to order, please complete form, attach your check and place in the collection basket. Father will bring them to Sheldon to be filled and when completed will return to Christy at the St. Andrew office on Thursday. You can pick up at the office during regular hours. If you would like to pick up the scrip at St. Patrick School, please include a note with the order. Thank you for your support of our cluster school. St. Pat's Scrip is sold anytime there is someone at the school. There are a lot of local and national retailers available in the scrip program. The businesses give the scrip program a discount and you buy the cards at face value so this is how the scrip program makes its money. Of the discount 60% goes to a designated school family and 40% goes to the scrip program. This is a wonderful program that raises money for the church and school and does not cost you anything. ROSARY RALLY FOR OUR COUNTRY There are now more than 700 rallies taking place across the country. All are starting at the same time to pray for our country. Think about it Thousands praying at the same time for our country. Prayer is powerful. This is your opportunity to assist the Diocese in its ministry work. You can assist our parish as well. When our parishes goes over their diocesan support goal of $15,936 for St. Patrick Sheldon and $19,937 for St. Andrew Sibley and St. Mary Ashton combined, 100% of that overage amount is returned to parishes for their use. Last year over $554,408 was given back to parishes across the Diocese. Calling all CDA women. Time for our Annual Cluster meeting to be held in Sheldon. When do you ask, is this important date. Oct. 2 at 5:30 p.m. Starting the night off with mass followed by a wonderful meal. Then having a speaker Tom Robert's from the Children's Home Society of South Dakota. He will have a table set up of books, etc that he has done. RSVP by Sept. 21 so you don't miss the wonderful evening of fun, fellowship, and all of our cluster coming together to spread God's word and doing his marvelous work. See you on Oct. 2. Page 2

3 St. Patrick ST. PATRICK RELIGIOUS EDUCATION Paulette Karolczak, Director of Religious Education (DRE) / VIRTUS TRAINING All St. Patrick School and Church volunteers are required to take a one-time Child Abuse Prevention Course. St. Patrick s Church will be hosting this training on Tuesday, September 18 at 6:00 pm in St. Patrick s School. If you are interested in volunteering with youth and have not taken this training, please contact Paulette Karolczak prior to the date at # Volunteers from surrounding churches are welcome also to this training. Our Sioux City Diocese takes protecting our children very seriously and this two hour program is very educational and informative! Religious Education A huge thank you to our volunteer teachers and assistants this year! Jill Jungers is our hall monitor, Michelle Frick 2 nd grade, Bobbie Glassmaker 3 rd grade, Mary Winchester 5 th grade, Kevin Miller/Amber Lippert/Carla Miller 6 th grade, Trista Budden 7 th grade, Tricia Dagel 8 th grade assistant and Amy Strouth/Brenda Gloden 9/10 Confirmation grades. We are still in need of 1 st, 4 th and 8 th grade lead teachers. These students will be home schooled until/unless teachers can be found. Diocese Youth Rally and Chris Stefanick event We are excited to take our 7-12 grade youth to the Diocese Youth Rally on Sunday, October 7 in Carroll, IA and a smaller group to hear Chris Stefanick, an international Catholic speaker, talk in Sioux City on Wednesday, October 17. These experiences are great opportunities to see our Catholic faith being actively lived out! These events cost money on top of recent Religious Education fees ($45 per year). If anyone would be willing to donate the cost ($43 Youth Rally or $22 Chris Stefanick event) for youth who cannot afford the cost or if any adults over age 18 are willing to be drivers or chaperones for these events, please contact Paulette Karolczak, DRE. If interested in joining, please call Karen at Sheldon Unity Meal - A free meal will be offered for those in need on Monday, September 17 at the Living Water Church from 6-7:30 pm. The Methodist Church is donating the food but they are in need of extra volunteers to serve it for the evening. Since the band and choir concert is on the December date for the Unity Meal this year, I offered St. Patrick's to assist at this meal. We could really use about 15 people to volunteer, so if you and/or your family are available to help, please call Paulette to volunteer at # by Monday noon. Love INC is preparing for the start of their fall session of Loving Help classes in both Sheldon and in Primghar. Classes are available for anyone living in O'Brien County. The fall session will begin on October 11, 2018 and run through December 20, Classes are free and will be held Thursday evenings from 6:30-7:30. Free childcare is provided. The classes being offered in Sheldon include EmployABLE (new class), Faith & Finances, and Bible Study. The classes being offered in Primghar include Making Parenting a Pleasure and Bible Study. St. Andrew St. Mary Attention CDA Ladies: The annual cluster supper/meeting will be held in Sheldon on Tuesday Oct. 2nd. Mass will be at 5:30 pm. Cost for the meal is $8.00. We will be writing out a check for the entire amount and you can reimburse the court for this. If you wish to attend please contact Barb Tremmel by Sept. 20th. We will be carpooling so meet at the Church by 5:00 pm. **Friday Morning Prayer** at St. Mary s 9 a.m. each week. The rosary and prayers are offered for peace in the world, for the sick, for our country and other intentions. Come and enjoy refreshments following prayer. THANKS Students going to Camp and on the next mission trip will be doing different fundraisers in the upcoming months. There will be an apple pie bake sale. To help with costs, we are looking for donations of apples, flour and sugar. Catholic Daughters will hold their first meeting of the year on Monday, September 17 in the parish hall. A light supper will be served at 6:00 P.M. followed by meeting which will include reception of new members. Your attendance will start Fall Bazaar September 29, 2018 Fall Bazaar Raffle Tickets are now available at each door information center. Each family is asked to sell 1 package of tickets. Tickets and money may be dropped in the collection basket by Sunday, September 23 or the day of the Bazaar. Please place in an envelope marked Fall Bazaar Raffle. Items donated to the raffle may be brought down the day before to the church basement. A big thank you to all who donated and purchased tickets. Looking forward to another successful year for our wonderful parish fundraiser. All women in the parish are Guild Members & your participation in this Nursing Home Sing-A-Long event is encouraged.
