4 4 Progressive Schedule To continuously improve our learning environment, we have developed a unique progressive schedule that allows for longer class time. The schedule is based on a four-day rotation, and students have eight scheduled classes, but only six classes occur each day. Each day a student has two 80-minute classes and four 50-minute classes. McAuley s progressive schedule prepares students for college while enabling teachers to use class time most efficiently. McAuley s Pulse McAuley restructured departments into four Communities in order to foster greater professional collaboration within the building. The four Communities (Humanities, Liberal Arts, Mind & Spirit, and S.T.E.M.) are led by Pulse, a seven-member team of administrators and faculty members. Our new structure moves McAuley into the future, not just in the area of academics, but more comprehensively as a school and school community. It also utilizes the ideas of professional communities; maximizes the reach of teachers beyond academics to the education of the whole person; and creates a leadership uniquely positioned to focus on overall school improvement beyond the five-year rotation of accreditation. Technology McAuley s tablet is an all-purpose, cutting-edge device; it uses innovative educational programs such as DyKnow, Geometer Sketchpad, Photoshop, and Movie Maker to create and exchange information as never before. McAuley students have access to online textbooks (which include interactive and supplementary resources as well as open source materials) all the time and do not have to carry overloaded backpacks. Staying connected through a uniform and consistent communication network benefits our students by offering them online class discussions and study sessions in the evenings. This gives them the ability to collaborate with one another in group assignments, and makes it easier for them to access and submit class work they miss in the event of illness. McAuley students organize all of their class activities, notes, homework, and projects on the tablet with One Note, virtually eliminating the need for paper and notebooks. After graduation, students leave McAuley with an advanced understanding of technology as well as their actual tablet. Most students use their tablet for at least the first year of their college career, making their transition a little easier.

5 Green Initiative McAuley High School is committed to promoting sustainability. Our student organization, the Green Team, organizes school-wide environmental initiatives. In addition to recycling over 10 types of materials, students also collect items like clothing and books for reuse. This year McAuley s Green Team opened a student-run, Reusable Free Store, where students get lightly used school supplies. Recycling and reusing by all students has reduced total trash, and because all students use the Tablet PC, the use of paper has also greatly decreased. The Doyle Program The Doyle Program is a two-week summer program to serve selected incoming freshmen s needs. The purposes of this program are to strengthen knowledge and skills for success in high school, to ensure that McAuley is the right school for participating students, and to enable students to get to know some of their classmates and teachers. Named after Mary Ann Doyle, the first young woman to prepare to work closely with Catherine McAuley, the foundress of the Sisters of Mercy, this program is shared between McAuley and Mother of Mercy, the two Cincinnati high schools operated by the Sisters of Mercy. Women In "Women In" is McAuley's ground breaking academic program that introduces students to careers in medicine, law, engineering and technology through monthly seminars, discussions, hands-on activities, and volunteer opportunities. Incoming freshmen who score an 85 or higher on the high school placement test are invited to apply for Women In. Once they are accepted into the program, students must maintain a 90 average or higher in honors or advanced English, math, and science courses along with participating in the program's monthly activities. At the end of freshman year, each student selects her area of study and the group divides into Medicine, Law, Engineering, and Technology. For their participation, students are awarded credit on their high school transcripts, showing competitive universities that their experiences in the program exceed the typical extracurricular activities offered in high schools. Additionally, our students are mentored by professionals in their future fields, making it easier to obtain much needed letters of recommendation for professional schools as well as a foot in the door when it comes time to fulfill residency and internship requirements. This one-of-a-kind program gives McAuley students advantages in competitive fields that are in need of women leaders ready to meet the needs of today's global society. Academic Support Services McAuley High School provides all students with a quality education within a caring, Christ-centered environment. When needed, McAuley meets the needs of identified students through the use of support services, assistive technology, and accommodations that can be implemented within the classroom setting. 11 Tuition and Financial Aid Information McAuley High School Class of 2019 Everyone at McAuley High School appreciates the sacrifices made to obtain a Catholic education. Tuition for the school year is $10,300 plus $600 for the Tablet. Tuition for the school year will be announced in January This information will be included in the test score/admission decision packets mailed to all applicants in January, McAuley awards as many scholarships and as much financial assistance as our funds allow. The financial possibilities include scholarships, tuition assistance, and the student work program. Option 1: High School Placement Test (HSPT) Scholarships* Scholarships are available to 8th grade students who take the entrance test required by McAuley. On average, 15% of students taking the test receive scholarships. HSPT Scholarships range from $1000 to full tuition. Option 2: McAuley accepts the Ohio EdChoice Scholarship Some students are eligible for the Ohio EdChoice Scholarship based on the rating of their designated public school and other factors. To determine your eligibility, visit the EdChoice website at edchoice.ohio.gov. Option 3: Apply for Tuition Assistance Financial assistance is available through McAuley High School s Educational Aid Fund. Families who wish to apply for McAuley financial assistance must complete and submit a FACTS financial aid application, found online at McAuley s web site, and also available in the main office. The form will be available mid-september and the deadline to submit the application is November 22. FACTS is an independent service used throughout Archdiocese to determine financial need. McAuley will use the FACTS application as the basis for distributing assistance from the high school. McAuley funds are provided by the Sisters of Mercy, the McAuley endowment fund, memorials, private donations, McAuction, and the McAuley Fund. Option 4: Work Credit Program In addition to the grants mentioned above, McAuley has a work credit program in which students stay after school for one hour each day to clean rooms. There is also a summer work credit program in which students can work for one week. In both cases, tuition is credited $8.75 per hour worked. FACTS application is required. Option 5: Arrange a Tuition Payment Plan Three methods of tuition payment are available: 1. Pay the entire balance to McAuley High School by June 5, Pay the amount of your choosing by June 5, 2015, and finance the balance. All students accepted by McAuley are automatically accepted by the bank for financing, if that method of payment is chosen. No credit checks are performed. Interest is charged on amounts financed. The interest rate for the school year is 4.35% simple interest. Payment on the amount financed is made directly to FACTS Management in 11 equal monthly installments from July 1 to May Finance all but the registration fee. FACTS Management is utilized for any deferred payment of tuition. Forms for choosing the method of tuition payment are mailed to homes in March and must be returned to McAuley by the end of April. Multiple Child Allowance A Multiple Child Allowance provides a tuition discount for families with at least three students in Archdiocesan high schools. Application is made through the tuition payment plan worksheet which is mailed in March and is due to McAuley by the end of April. *Awarded ONLY to current 8th graders (incoming 9th graders) 11
