Transiency
30% of our students who took the PARCC exam in the 2016/2017 school year, were enrolled in our District for less than 2 years...we also found that many of our students who were new transferees did not stay for the next year s PARCC (less than 45%) when comparing 2016 to
When we control our data for students who are with us more than one year, we find the following.

There is a significant achievement gap when we control for Time in District (TID)...

Challenges, Next Steps and Long Term Planning
Nothing will work unless you do Maya Angelou
Our two largest challenges are... Student School Choice Chronic for our Absenteeism Secondary Schools
Our students daily attendance rate is routinely well over 90%; this is not the same as chronically absent...
Student Chronic Absenteeism: The Chronic Absenteeism category is reached by students when they are absent for 10% of the school year; That can occur by being absent for any reason just 2 days per month;
Student Chronic Absenteeism: Research shows that when students are chronically absent they are drastically inhibited academically; and, Although our Chronic Absenteeism has improved for consecutive years (7% improvement), it is still above the State Average of 9.7%.

School Choice for our Secondary Schools More than 600 of our High School age students in Willingboro attend schools other than Willingboro High School; Almost 200 of our Middle School age students in Willingboro attend schools other than Memorial Middle School; and, Although we have seen growth academically (Grad rates, SAT etc) and operationally (NJQSAC up 60%), these trends significantly drain our resources and create an uneven balance regarding school choice.

Faith is taking the first step even when you don t see the full staircase Dr. Martin L. King Jr.
Our two largest challenges... In conclusion (1) We desperately need our students to come to school every day and (2) we need our elementary parents to make us their school of choice for secondary education.. Student achievement, college and career readiness, curriculum development, staff development, instructional technology etc...are all very high priorities for our District as well. However, the work that we do is always prefaced with the following: 1. How do we decrease chronic absenteeism? 2. What can we do to keep our kids?
