3 Bowling Team Weekly Recap Submitted for the January 29 Voice This past weekend we closed out the Varsity portion of the Macomb County Championships at Sterling Lanes. In the Boys Varsity Singles division, Sophomore Matthew Kinnaird made the cut in qualifying finishing in 30th place. Kinnaird then went on to matchplay but unfortunately was knocked out in the Round of 32 in a gripping defeat. After a hard fought effort, Kinnaird left a solid 9-pin in the 9th frame which cost him the chance to advance into the next round. In the Girls Varsity Singles division, Sophomore Ann Osinski made the cut in qualifying finishing in 15th place as well as Senior Lindsey Williams finishing in 11th place. Both girls went on to defeat their opponents in the Round of 32 however, Williams was eliminated in the Round of 16 with a loss and Osinski went out one round later, in the Round of 8, with a heartbreaking loss of In the Team qualifying event on Sunday, the Girls Varsity Team bounced around near the top spots and easily made the cut into match play. The Girls came out firing strong in both the Round of 32 and the Round of 16 but fell a bit short in the Round of 8. After some intense back and forth action, the Girls were unable to overcome the 3rd game deficit and were thus eliminated from the competition. More Bowling News On Saturday our Varsity Teams competed in the Tri-County Invitational Tournament at 5 Star Lanes. Our Boys Varsity Team, consisting of Tyler Amato, Matthew Czarski, Jaden DeFillippo, Matthew Kinnaird, Ryan Neumann and Domencik Redmond, qualified in 9th place easily making the match play cut. After some exciting first round action, the Boys Team was sadly eliminated in the Round of 8. On the Girls side, our Varsity Team which consisted of Madalyn Czarski, Jade Maliszewski, Ann Osinski, Marykate Pardington, Veronica Pardington and Lindsey Williams also qualified in 9th place and much like their male counterparts, were unfortunately eliminated in the Round of 8. Our next tournament will be the Utica Ford Bowl Swamii Tournament this Saturday 2/3/2018 at Imperial Lanes. We will be notifying our bowlers this week on which teams will be competing on Saturday. Hope to see you there to cheer them on! Go to or MICHIGAN.GOV/STUDENTAID then the SCHOLARSHIPS AND GRANTS tab then MI Scholarship Search. This is an easy tool for students to enter basic information. The State of Michigan will do a scholarship search for the student based on this information. Other scholarships will come directly from the university that the student is accepted at. Additionally, at the bottom of the COLLEGES tab on Naviance, students can view many scholarships by going to either Scholarship List or Scholarship Match. National scholarship searches can also be done on
9 many internet search sites such as These searches are all free of charge. FAFSA The Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) is open and ready to be completed. Go to to begin the process. The first step is for both the student and one parent to complete a FSA ID in order to electronically sign the FAFSA. There is a tab to do this at the top of the FAFSA.ed.gov web page. In order to complete the FAFSA, parents and students will need to have their tax information handy. The family information may be sent, for free, to as many schools as indicated on the FAFSA form. Universities use this information as the main tool to determine the financial aid package that will be awarded to the student. Completing the FAFSA early provides the best chances of receiving the most aid. Some programs and scholarships require a FAFSA to be completed in order to receive money so it is important that all families complete the FAFSA process.
