3 ARRIVE FOR ROBING Starts promptly at 8:30 a.m. Students report to the Rockville Campus, 119 Physical Education Center, Main Gym. Don t be late! GRADUATION EXERCISES Starts promptly at 10 a.m. Family and friends report to the Athletic Field located on North Campus Drive. Gate opens at 8 a.m. Please enter the campus from Mannakee Street. CAPS AND GOWNS Caps and gowns may be purchased at the Bookstore on the campus where you applied for graduation. Germantown Bookstore, Rockville Books & More, Takoma Park/Silver Spring Bookstore, Please enter campus from Mannakee Street. North Campus Drive at Route 355 (near Gudelsky Institute) will be closed. Security officers will direct traffic and pedestrians. INDOOR VIEWING AREA (No Tickets Required) Indoor viewing with air-conditioning is available in the Theatre Arts Building, Theatre Arts Arena and the Robert E. Parilla Performing Arts Center. These viewing areas are particularly nice for elderly guests and those with children. CONCESSIONS STAND Cafe opens at 8 a.m. near commencement tent. Selling coffee, sweets, and snacks. 4 C O M M E N C E M E N T DIRECTIONS FOR PROCESSIONAL AND RECESSIONAL 10 a.m., Friday May 18, 2018 Outdoor Tented Graduation-Athletic Field-Rockville Campus Indoor Viewing Area: Theatre Arts Building Arena, Robert E. Parilla Performing Arts Center Students who require disability-related accommodations should contact the Disability Support Services (DSS) Office on the campus they attend or at dss@montgomerycollege.edu. Main Gym (PE 119) ARRIVE NO LATER THAN 8:30 A.M. ON FRIDAY MORNING. Refreshments will be served. Please don't bring valuables (cameras, purses, etc.) you can't keep them with you. Remember to bring combs, cosmetics and hair / safety pins. CELL PHONES MUST BE SILENCED! 2. WHAT TO WEAR: ALL - Dark shoes. Remove wrinkles from gown (read care instructions in package). MEN - White collar & tie. WOMEN - Appropriate shoes. Stiletto heels are not permitted on the track. 3. Students eligible for Phi Theta Kappa stoles who have not yet received them should inquire at the admissions table for their campus in main gym. 4. PROCESSION: Students will line-up in alphabetical order and leave the large gym in two lines and be escorted to the athletic field. (A-K will be seated on the left side and L-Z on the right) Students will follow the deans of student development in two separate lines and process in from both sides of the tent. Look for the usher who will direct you to your reserved seat. The first student of each line will enter the first available row, go to the first seat in the row and sit down. Then the next row will be filled. s will indicate when to fill the next row. Graduates will remain seated until the faculty begin to process, when they will be directed to stand in unison and remain standing until after the National Anthem. GRADUATES WILL THEN SIT IN UNISON.

5 5. PRESENTATION OF GRADUATES: After the honorary degrees are awarded, Dr. Sanjay Rai will present all of the graduates. The graduates will stand in unison and remain standing until Dr. DeRionne Pollard confers the degrees and The Honorable Michael Knapp, Board Chair, awards the degrees, then graduates will be seated. 6. RECEIVING OF DIPLOMA: s will cue students to stand and proceed from the side aisle, from both the left and right sides simultaneously, pause for a photo before proceeding onto the stage. Students hand the card bearing their name to the reader s assistant and then cross the stage to receive their diploma (cover) from a trustee, shake hands with the president then follow ushers as they retake their seats by way of the center aisle. Be sure to bring your reader card and nothing else. You will return to the same seat. Those graduates sitting at the outside ends of each aisle should remain especially alert and watch for the usher's signals. Remain in your seat until the end of the ceremony for a chance to win one of seven $1000 transfer scholarships. 7. PURCHASING FRAMES: Frames will be available for purchase at the end of rehearsals and on Commencement day at the Alumni table. 8. RECESSIONAL: For the Recessional, after the Induction of Graduates into the Alumni Association, you will please exit IN PAIRS down the center aisle (one from the left, one from the right WATCH FOR USHER'S SIGNALS) in this order: 1) Platform guests (those seated on the stage) 2) Administrators, faculty, and staff 3) Deans of Student Development in pairs 4) Graduates 9. KEEP MOVING so that guests will be able to follow. IMPORTANT POINTS: If you think the reader may need assistance with the pronunciation of your name, you will have an opportunity to assist the reader to write the phonetic pronunciation of your name on your name card at the conclusion of rehearsal. At graduation, a number placed on your name card, will assist in lining up graduates alphabetically. LEAVE NAME CARD WITH ADMISSIONS STAFF AT THE CONCLUSION OF REHEARSAL! Indoor viewing area is available for those who wish to avoid the crowds, heat, sun, and for guests without tickets. Indoor viewing is located in the Theatre Arts Building, Theatre Arts Arena and in the Robert E. Parilla Performing Arts Center. Please arrive on time. The robing and line-up will begin promptly at 8:30 a.m.
