1 Academic Team Art Club Cletus Jacobs Gwen Gaw Claire Sweitzer The goal of the Academic Team is to provide a challenging opportunity for students to compete against other Hamilton County schools in the Spell Bowl and Knowledge Master events. Students meet weekly from September to October for Spell Bowl and January to March for Knowledge Master. Are you interested in book-making, drawing, architecture, sculpture, fashion, or printmaking? Best Buddies Danielle Nichols dnichol1@ccs.k12.in.us Best Buddies Indiana - an organization dedicated to establishing opportunities for one-to-one friendships and leadership development for people with intellectual and developmental disabilities (IDD) for students of all ages. We will meet once a month for a meeting after school as well as special activities for our Best Buddies. Each month, club members will choose a book from a featured genre to read and discuss. The club will meet once a month before school in the Media Center. The Carmel Middle School Chamber Orchestra serves as the premiere and by-audition-only ensemble for the Carmel Middle School Orchestra Program and performs at various school, community, and Indiana State School Music Association events. All students who are in at least their second year of playing their instrument are welcome to audition each September. This ensemble performs advanced middle school and high school level music. The goal of the Carmel Middle School Chamber Orchestra is to provide a positively life-changing musical experience for its members. Chess Club is available for any student interested in learning the game or showcasing their talents. Whether you are a novice chess player or on expert, you are welcome to the meetings. We review rules, discuss strategy, play matches and have tons of fun! Have you ever been interested in coding, programming, or game design? Coding Club is open to anyone interested in coding, even if you have zero experience! Come to learn the basics as a beginner or improve your previous coding experience. You ll have the ability to make animations, games, or websites and explore the fundamentals of a variety of programming languages. Coding Club will run on Tuesdays after school in lab 103. Comic Book Club Cletus Jacobs cjacobs1@ccs.k12.in.us Comic Book Club is for anyone who enjoys comics, manga, and graphic novels. Whether you know each of DC s 52 parallel universes or are just a fan of the movies and anime inspired by the original comics, everyone is welcome. Each week, students will experience a variety of comics activities, which will include discussing favorite stories and characters, learning and engaging in the process of creating comics, trivia, and more! Join fellow comic book aficionado Mr. Jacobs on Tuesdays in the Media Center for all the comics fun!

2 Cougar Cooks Holly Hull The Cougar Cooks is open to all students who enjoy cooking or eating! Each month we will tackle a different form of baking, cooking, or decorating. Students will work with Mrs. Jay, as well as other members of the culinary community to broaden their cooking or preparation skills. The Cougar Cooks will meet once a month and all meetings will take place in the Community Room. Cougar Crafts Club Danielle Nichols dnichol1@ccs.k12.in.us Are you a crafty person? Would you like to learn to do different types of crafts? Then the Cougar Crafts Club is for you! We would love to have you join us as we learn to make various types of crafts. All levels of crafting experience are accepted! Our mission is to have fun and be creative during our time together. Anyone who wants to learn more about their faith is welcome to come and join the activities and enjoy good food, fellowship, and fun. The club meets weekly on Friday mornings in the cafeteria. Students are to be dropped off at the front entrance (door 2) and the club meets in the cafeteria. DECA Junior is a student run group that exposes students in grades 6 th, 7 th, and 8 th, to the basics of business and entrepreneurship. Students will learn from Carmel High School DECA students each aspect of entrepreneurship in an effort to complete a business plan. Areas covered are executive summary, finance, marketing operations, and human resources. For more details, please see Carey Anderson. The CMS Drama Club strives to encourage students interests in theater, educate them on technical theater work, and provide entertaining programs for the rest of the school population. The Drama Club presents a musical and school play each academic year. Check morning announcements for meeting times. Future City Club Gardening Club Kaylee Houlihan khouliha@ccs.k12.in.us Holly Hull hhuepenb@ccs.k12.in.us Future City starts with a question how can we make the world a better place? To answer it, 6th, 7th, and 8th grade students imagine, research, design, and build cities of the future that showcase their solution to a citywide sustainability issue (this year s topic is waste management). Students present their solutions via a virtual city design (using SimCity); a 1,500-word city description; a scale model; a project plan, and a presentation to judges at Regional Competitions in January. Regional winners represent their region at the National Finals in Washington, DC in February. After the competition is over, student participants are not only prepared to be citizens of today s complex and technical world, they are poised to become the drivers of tomorrow. Get involved in the community garden! Gardening club meets during the months of September, October, April and May. Enjoy planting, picking, watering, and weeding fruits, vegetables and flowers in the CCS gardens. Students should be willing to teach, learn, and appreciate new games and ideas and most importantly, enjoy them with others! The German Club offers a variety of experiences for the student wanting to learn more about German and German speaking countries. There are several activities and discussions which focus on primary holidays, history, and present day Germany.

We will promote green activities at our school, and care for ecosystems in Hamilton County. Guys That Sing is Carmel Middle s all male a cappella group that performs arrangements of upbeat pop, jazz, and rock songs at all of the major choir concerts. The group also participates in a vocal competition. Open to grades 6-8, singers must audition, and will rehearse one to two times per week in the morning before school. From trivia to potions to Quidditch, we celebrate everything Harry Potter Improv club is an exhilarating new club where the games are made up and the points don t matter! Students will practice an exciting form of drama where they must improvise various comedic sketches using characters and traits right from their classmates. Students will build confidence, test their quick thinking skills and learn to laugh a lot A friendship club that embraces diversity and fosters giving. Provides an opportunity for students with various backgrourds to assemble for activities, events, and experiences. Gives students a platform to teach each other about their culture and heritage. Provides students an opportunity to better serve their school and community through a number of interactive events and service projects throughout the school year. Intramurals includes morning weight lifting and a variety of other after- or before-school activities. Intramurals will meet once a week and participate in sports and games, both indoor and outdoor. All levels are welcome, from the not-so-athletic to the moderately gifted. Signups are required prior to events -- listen for announcements. Open to students by auditions held in fall. Anyone may audition on guitar, brass, and piano. Students auditioning on brass, woodwind, and percussion instruments must be enrolled in the school band program. This group performs music in a jazz/swing, rock, and Latin style at school and community events. One highlight of the year is a joint concert with the Clay and Creekside middle school jazz bands in April. If you can imagine it, you can make it. This club combines creativity and technology in DIY (do it yourself) projects and activities to engage the mind. Come see what the excitement is all about. We will be meeting every other Monday in the library after school until 4:05. Math Counts is a national coaching and competition program that promotes math achievement. The program challenges students to learn higher level algebra, geometry, and problem solving. The program starts in October and meets weekly until January, then several times a week until March. Math Counts is open to all grade levels. Do you love Minecraft? Join the Carmel Middle School Minecraft Club! It s totally free and no previous experience or account is required to play. The club plays together in one game world run by Mrs. Karpiuk. Minecraft runs on Tuesdays after school in lab 103. Students will be assigned to either group A or B, and we ll alternate groups each week so that we can have as many people as possible play. This means you would meet every other Tuesday! Stop by and see Mrs. Karpiuk in lab 103 for more information and a permission slip. Seventh and eighth grade students are selected as members of the honor society based on their grades and citizenship.

4 Pep Band Ping Pong Club Robotics Team Sci-Fi Film Club Student Government Becky McElhannon Marc Emenhiser Claire Sweitzer Danielle Seifert Cindy Senseman The Pep Band is a group of students who add spirit to sporting and school events through music. We play well-known rock and pop music to get the crowd excited! 7 th and 8 th grade students who are enrolled in Band class and have played their instrument for at least a year are eligible to join the Pep Band. On occasion, we must limit the number of certain instruments so that the band is balanced. Pep band rocks! Ping Pong Club is club where a diverse group of participants of all skill levels come to primarily have fun, meet new people, or sometimes just to come hang out to watch and learn. The club meets weekly on Wednesdays or Fridays with a pre-season, regular season, and playoff tournament for both a competitive league and a recreational league. During each session, some tables will be designated as scheduled as league play, but there will always be at least one table for open play. This means that new participants of any level are always welcome to stop by and play Robotics is a competition team that will meet throughout the school year. Team members will design, build and program their robots to perform a defined task. They will then compete at various events throughout the year to qualify for the state tournament. We use the VEX IQ platform for robotics. Do you like traveling through space and time? Then the Sci-Fi Film Club is for you! We will meet throughout the year to discuss and watch classic and new movies and TV shows in the Sci-Fi genera. Besides watching films, we will also have trivia days and create sci-fi inspired art! Student government is a group of students from all grade levels. Their function is to plan school-wide social and community service activities, and have a place where students can voice concerns or solutions to school issues. Meetings are held once a month. Students will have the opportunity to help others, learn leadership skills, and make new friends. Vista Core Jessica Gilpatrick jgilpatr@ccs.k12.in.us This small group of 7 th and 8 th grade students is responsible for selecting the yearbook s theme, determining design choices, putting together section assignments for their peers, etc. They edit pages, form relationships, and gain real-life work experience as they meet deadlines and manage others. Students do not need to be enrolled in a journalism course to be a part of the Core; however, they are selected by the adviser and/or must apply in the spring prior to their 7 th or 8 th grade school year. The Core meets once during the summer, once on a Saturday morning, and once a week throughout the year until the book is published in late February. TBD latenight editing sessions will take place at least 2-3 times per year. All girls will get a chance to build their knowledge of the game with individual drills and team scrimmages. The club meets during the month of May. Specific dates will be provided during the sign-up period in April. Want to learn the fundamentals an d benefits of yoga? Give a try in room 202. This is a novice yoga class and anyone is welcome. We will have fun learning yoga techniques that promote overall health.

5 Young Writers Club Alvin Anthony The Young Writers Club is for students interested in creating, revising, collaborating, and revising some more. We will meet once a month to share ideas, problems, questions, and cures for Writer s Block. When possible, we will invite local authors to speak, share, and answer questions. During the months of November and April, the Young Writers Club will take part in two national writing initiatives. Whether you want to write one good page or a million this is the club for you. Winter Run Club Woodwind Ensemble Brie Miller bmiller4@ccs.k12.in.us Becky McElhannon rmcelhan@ccs.k12.in.us Looking to get in better physical shape? Join the winter run club. In the months of January and February coach Matthews and company will work with students on strength, speed, and endurance. Anyone is welcome. The Woodwind Ensemble is an advance group of musicians who play either the flute or clarinet. Students with at least one year of instruction on their instrument are eligible to join. We meet each Monday after school from 3:15-4:05 in Mrs. Mac's room. Students learn the skills needed to play in a small chamber ensemble. Members gain musical independence by being one of a few to play the same part of music. Past performances include the ISSMA Solo and Ensemble contest, the CEF Telethon, the CaMS Art show and the Special People Awards banquet.
