Following are the sites for the double-elimination events. Schedules and scores will be posted on the KHSAA Scoreboard ( as they are received. Central. STATE VOLLEYBALL TOURNAMENT DRAW The draw for the 23 rd KHSAA State Volleyball Tournament has been conducted. The State Volleyball Tournament will be played Oct at Ryle High School and Gray Middle School in Union. This marks the fourth consecutive year for Ryle and Gray to host the event and sixth time in the last eight years. The Volleyball postseason gets underway with District Tournaments slated for Oct and Regional Tournaments scheduled for Oct Six-time defending State Champion Assumption will go for its seventh consecutive title as the Rockets have claimed volleyball s top spot eight of the last nine years. Following is the first round region vs. region match-ups for the State Tournament. 2 12 Campbell County 13 Holy Rosary 14 Ryle 15 Ballard GLASGOW S WADE AND PAUL DUNBAR CLAIM GIRLS GOLF TITLES Glasgow s Whitney Wade fired a four-over-par 148 to repeat as individual champion at the Girls State Golf Tournament played last week at London Country Club. Wade finished two strokes ahead of Dixie Heights Emily Culbertson who shot 150. Bowling Green s Erin Faulkner and Monroe County s Marci Turner finished tied for third at 153. Paul Dunbar used all-around solid play in capturing the team title. The Bulldogs carded a 325 in Tuesday s opening round and led second-place Russell County by 15 strokes. Lauren Norsworthy led the Dogs in the opening round with a 79. In the second round, Paul Dunbar turned in a 338, but that was still 11 strokes better than Russell County s day two total of 349. The Dogs finished the tournament at 663. Russell County was second at 689 while Franklin County finished third at 706. ST. XAVIER SWEEPS BOYS GOLF TITLES St. Xavier picked up its 14 th team title and Robby Shaw captured the school s seventh individual title at the Boys State Golf Tournament played last Thursday and Friday at Eagle s Nest Country Club in Somerset. The sweep marked the fifth time St. Xavier finished first as a team and had the top individual. The Tigers last accomplished the feat in 1999 (Brandon Waldrop). The Tigers led defending State Champion Paducah Tilghman by six strokes after firing a 296 in Thursday s first round. Leading the way was Jessie Mudd who carded a two-under par 69 to lead the tournament by two strokes over George Rogers Clark s Robbie Martin who shot 71. Robby Shaw was four-back and in a three-way tie for second after shooting a 73. Mudd stuggled in Friday s second round, turning in a six-over 77. Shaw picked up the slack and blazed the course for a two-under 69 to finish even par at 142. Mudd tied Covington Catholic s Jay Sutton for second at 146. St. Xavier s Michael Haverfield was fourth at 147, including an even-par 71 in the final round. George Rogers Clark s Martin shot 80 in the second round to finish tied for 12 th at 151. Complete State Golf Tournament results from both events are posted on the KHSAA website at LAWRENCE COUNTY S WEST ON THE LOOSE Lawrence County s Michael West sat out Thursday s contest, a win over Magoffin County, with a sprained ankle. Bulldogs coach Gary McPeek says West will be back in the line-up this week when Lawrence County faces Greenup County on the road. His 83 career total touchdowns rank ninth, his 81 rushing touchdowns rank tied for seventh and his 508 career points rank 12 th. MOORE S GIBSON AMONG STATE LEADERS Moore s Monquantae Gibson is also moving up among the state s career rushing leaders. Following are Gibson s numbers to date and where he stacks up against the state s leaders. On the year, Gibson has run 167 times for 1,326 yards and 21 touchdowns rushing. He has two other touchdowns and five two-point conversions for 148 points. 3 Arliss Beach became Ashland Blazer s all-time leading scorer last Friday in a 39-7 win over Boyd County. Beach scored four touchdowns to increase his career total to 306 points, surpassing the old mark of 299 points scored by Bert Johnson ( ). Beach ran for 252 yards in the contest and needs just 420 yards to become the Tomcats all-time leading rusher. Ballard quarterback Andy Ahrens set a school record with six touchdown pass completions in a win over Seneca. Ahrens completed 22 of 28 attempts for a whopping 413 yards all in only one half of play. Maurice Marchman tied his own school record for most receptions in a game with 12. Four of those catches were for touchdowns - a new school record. For the game, Marchman had 202 yards receiving. Bardstown s Jon Monin completed 13 of 20 pass attempts for 156 yards and three touchdowns in a 40-0 win over LaRue County. Jamie Cotton ran 13 times for 104 yards and a touchdown in a showdown between undefeated squads. Bardstown s defense held LaRue County to minus-23 yards rushing on 33 attempts. LaRue County managed just eight total net yards in the game. Kellen Smith had eight receptions for 249 yards and two touchdowns in Barren County s win over Daviess County. The effort included a school-record 95-yard touchdown reception. Quarterback Corey Shive compiled 244 yards passing in the game. Boyle County s Jeff Duggins completed eight of 11 pass attempts for 155 yards and three touchdowns in a 69-0 win over Lincoln County. Duggins also ran nine times for 141 yards and two touchdowns. The win extended the Rebels consecutive win streak to 37 games. Tanner Siewert now holds the Henderson County school record for field goals in a season with 12. Siewert connected on two attempts in a win over Graves County. Highlands picked up win No. 700 for the school with a win over Grant County. Matt Gramstad ran seven times for 173 yards and four touchdowns in a dominating first quarter performance. Eric Moore ran 36 times for 220 yards and two touchdowns to help Holy Cross (Louisville) defeat Clarksville, IN Moore also accounted for an interception in the contest. Holy Cross recovered three fumbles and picked off two interceptions. On the year, the Cougars have recovered 17 fumbles and intercepted 13 passes. Michael Bush had eight receptions for 150 yards and a touchdown in helping defending Class AAAA State Champion Male to a win over Central. Bush also had seven tackles and three deflections on defense. Chris Barclay ran 14 times for 103 yards and two touchdowns and had four pass deflections. Sergio Spencer ran eight times for 38 yards and a touchdown and had two receptions for 11 yards and two touchdowns. Quarterback Brandon Blackerby completed 19 of 34 attemtps for 247 yards and three touchdowns in the game. Newport Central Catholic s Kevin Smith filled in nicely at running back for the injured (knee) Steve Everson. Smith ran 22 times for 227 yards and five touchdowns for the Breds in a 37-8 win over Holy Cross (Covington). Josh Stratton ran 22 times for 210 yards and three touchdowns for Phelps in a win over Allen Central. Stratton also had 10 tackles and a sack in the contest.
