Ohio s first team victory in the event was in 1962 but in 1960, Bobcat Ray Fleming took first individually. In 1981, the women s race was added to the All-Ohio Chamionshi and Bowling Green won the inaugural race. The next season, Ohio took home the team title and the Bobcats have won the women s event eight times since its incetion, the most recent coming last season. Ohio State has won the last three men s events and Ohio s most recent men s title came in 1996 when Josh Ritchie s first lace finish aced the Cats. Looking for Continued Success Senior Craig Leon has been Ohio s most consistent runner in consistently good. The Van Wert, Ohio, native has won two out of the three races he has cometed in this season and took third at the most recent event, the Notre Dame Invitational. Leon s best time of the year, a 24:39.21 finish at the Mel Brodt Invitational, came in his first meet. Summers Earns MAC Award After she took 45th in the to-tier Blue Division at the Notre Dame Invitational, sohomore Kari Summers was awarded the MAC Cross Country Runner of the Week Award, the league announced Tuesday morning. Summers 17:47 finish was the best of all Ohio runners and the best of any MAC articiant at the 54-school ND Invite, which featured 15 ranked teams. The Notre Dame Invitational was only the second meet Summers articiated in this season, sitting out the Ohio Invitational after taking third at the season-oening Mel Brodt Invite at Bowling Green with a time of 18: Summers shined her freshman season as well, osting three to-15 finishes. Her best was a sixth lace mark at the 2006 MAC Chamionshis when she recorded a 20:47.10 time on the rainsoaked course. At the 2006 Notre Dame Invitational Summers laced 106th and she took seventh at the 2006 Mel Brodt Invite. Before coming to Ohio in 2002, Calkins served as the head assistant coach for track and field at Hillsdale College in Hillsdale, Mich. During his three and a half years at Hillsdale, he heled lead several Charger student-athletes to to- 10 finishes at nationals in both jums and throws. Calkins began his coaching career as a graduate assistant with the Bobcats during the school year. In between receiving his master s degree in athletic administration in 1997 and joining the Hillsdale coaching staff in A native of East Sarta, Ohio, Calkins cometed in the 110-meter high hurdles at the state high school meet. At Malone College in Canton, Ohio, he was a four-year decathlete who secialized in the hurdles, ole vault and jums for the Pioneers. Calkins received a bachelor s degree in hysical education from Malone in
