1 The contest schedule is a working document. Please check back for updates. The number of students allowed to compete at the state conference may change. If six or less from all districts are reported then we allow 1 st and 2 nd place to advance to the state level. If seven or more are reported we allow 1 st place to advance. However, many of our Technical Chairs would like to invite more students to participate at the state level and have asked that several places from the district level advance to compete at the state level. These changes are reflected in this document. Technical information test eligibility will follow suit. You may also download the SkillsUSA Texas app for more information and is updated as we enter information after March 15. SkillsUSA Texas University sessions will be presented throughout the day on Saturday on mini states throughout the American Bank Center. We understand that with the advancement of technology, that some of our competitive events would want to embrace the use of drones to capture video. Some things you need to think about. Most of the video competitions are taking place inside public buildings, in limited space with the public watching. All of this will entail the liability of the individual/school/event coordinator becoming liable if there is an occurrence that would possibly cause damage to property or bodily injury. Since these drones are subject to direction by the user the chance of operator, error would be too great for SkillsUSA and SkillsUSA Texas to permit their use at this time. Most public buildings have strict prohibitions on the use of drones in their buildings. No hover boards, skate boards, roller skate or blades are permitted at the SkillsUSA Texas conference. The American Bank Center owned by the City of Corpus Christi, a Governmental agency, we cannot prohibit Concealed or Open Carry within the facility except when the facility is being used by a High School or College for an interscholastic event. Since Skills USA is an interscholastic competition, no weapons are allowed in the building during the time in which SkillsUSA Texas occupies the building.
