4 KEYNOTE: Dr. Stephen J. Scanlan Sociology and Its Discontents: The Ongoing Significance, Persistence, and Necessity of the Sociological Imagination Dr. Stephen J. Scanlan is Associate Professor of Sociology at Ohio University. He received his Ph.D. in Sociology from The Ohio State University. His research areas of interest include Comparative Social Change, Environmental Sociology, International Development, Poverty and Global Inequality, and Social Movements. Dr. Scanlan has published numerous articles in such journals as International Journal of Comparative Sociology, Research in Social Movements, Conflicts and Change, International Journal of Sociology of Agriculture & Food, and Teaching Sociology. He also was a Visiting Fulbright Scholar, School of Political Science and Sociology, National University of Ireland Galway.
