SOCIAL QUARTERS HAPPENINGS By Lisa and Lara Congratulations to everyone for surviving the holiday season and I hope 2016 will be a great year for our Moose and our membership. David Bowie, RIP, once said, I don t know where I m going from here, but I promise it won t be boring. And even though we cannot promise the life of Ziggy Stardust, we do have a few eventful occasions on our calendar for the coming year, including bands, food, games, picnics, raffles, many sporting occasions, and hopefully enough to do to keep us all entertained. The last chore of 2015 was taking down our Christmas decorations in the Social Quarters with the help of Jeff Rozell and Merle Richerson. We did have many holiday parties and even enjoyed a party with the children of Mooseheart. Thank you to Doug and Angie Winslow for contributing an ornament to our Moose Friday Night Fish Fries February 5, 2016 continuing thru March 25, 2016 Christmas tree, which has been gingerly put away with all the other Moose ornaments till next year. The Friday Night Fish Fries are back and running! The menu is delicious and very reasonably priced. It s always a good time for the whole family, so we hope to see everyone between now and March 25. And to reiterate from continued on page 7 ATTENTION ALL D.G. MOOSE MEMBERS! Please Read The Lodge has purchased a new card reader for entry into the Social Quarters. The new reader will only accept your Moose International membership card. If you do not have a current membership card in your possession, contact Moose International Member Services Department at to obtain a new card.

4 4 February/March Roundup Moose Riders #1535, Chris Collins, President Happy New Year, Moosers! Itʹs going to be an exciting year! The Christmas party was a blast this year. Kandace and I hosted the party. We had 30ish people show up. The white elephant gift exchange was really exciting. I think the best gift was the Selfie Stick that Susie received. Wedding bells are in our future. Randy Finlayson and Cindy Kroeger got engaged! We hosted the Fish Fry on Friday, January 9, and had a great turnout and a lot of fun. Remember to visit us on our next Fish Fries on February 5 and March 4. The Moose Riders meet on the second and fourth Wednesdays of each month. The business meetings are the second Riders Ribs Thursday, March 3 6:00 p.m. 7:30 p.m. Yum. The Moose Rider Christmas party was a blast this year. Wednesday at 6:30 p.m. and the riding meetings are on the fourth Wednesday at 6:30 p.m., at the Lodge. Rod & Gun Club, Brendan Kenny President I d like to start off by thanking the Christmas Party Committee for doing a wonderful job of organizing the party and making sure that we had enough food for all in attendance. Judging by how many tickets were sold, and the attendance, I d say the Christmas Party was a huge success. Furthermore, the annual raffle ticket sales, our major fundraiser each year, was another wonderful success. By the time most of you read this, the Rod & Gun Chili Cook-Off (Sunday, January 31) will have been another event of definable success. I can t thank the Lodge, and its Officers, enough for allowing the Rod & Gun Club to host this event each year. Looking forward to warmer weather, and a few months down the road, the annual Rod & Gun Spring Fishing Trip will be held at Lang s Landing in Winneconne, Wisconsin, from May 18 through the 22; I believe that there still may be some room for those that would like to make a reservation. For our pheasant hunters, be sure to save your longest pheasant tail feathers for the Pheasant Tail Contest after the season closes. The contest will be decided at the first meeting in February. The second meeting in March is the time when the Club begins nominating the officers for the coming year. If you would like to serve on the board, please contact the nominating committee. The formal election will be held on April 17 with the new officer(s) being sworn in on May 1. Our open positions will include the Secretary and Treasurer. I would have added President, but, I was voluntold to keep the position in the coming year. Finally, the Rod & Gun Club extends a warm welcome to recent Lodge enrollees and invites all Lodge members and Women of the Moose members in good standing who are interested in or enjoy hunting, fishing, or the shooting sports to join the Rod & Gun Club. We meet on the first and third Wednesdays of each month in the lower level of the Lodge at 8:00 p.m. The first year is absolutely free to new enrollees in the Club. Come on down and join us if we like you, weʹll let you stay.

We also have a few holidays coming our way, with a multitude of drink specials. During the week of Valentine s Day the Social Quarters will feature the Cosmopolitan Kiss for a very special price, and on St. Patty s Day Sparkling Shamrocks and green beer will again be priced to sell and celebrate. As always to end on a personal note, a big shout out goes to Merle Richerson who is always there to help! She is involved in all of our different Moose entities. Her devotion, helpful hand, and smiles are contagious in our Social Quarters. Thank you Merle the Pearl for being you; things wouldn t be the same without you! Since we are talking Scott (Elvis) Robinson (right) at the Elgin Lodge. MECCA #9 hosted an Elvis Impersonator show and steak dinner on November 14 at the Elgin Lodge. Many Downers Grove Legionnaires attended the performance. One of our unit legionnaires impersonated the Elvis impersonator. Thanks to Scott Robinson for entertaining all of us and doing an outstanding job on his own impersonation. A special thanks goes out to Dave Henzel for organizing, preparing, and implementing the Downers Grove Moose Legion Christmas party breakfast and raffles. Dave donated raffle prizes and raised money for our unit. Great job; keep up the good work. MECCA #9 held its awards banquet on January 9 at the Elgin Lodge. Several legionnaires attended and all had a good time. Congratulations to Mike Pelling who was awarded with Lodge 1535 Legionnaire of the Year.
