5 REGISTRATION INFORMATION REGISTRATION GETTING STARTED General information for all things IC 2018 can be found at fpspi.org/ic-information/. Registration for all participants attending IC 2018 will occur online through the International Conference Registration Website at icfpspi.org. Anyone attending or participating in the 2018 International Conference must register. One person, called the coordinator, is responsible for gathering information from participants, submitting the registration, and providing payment. A single registration can be made for multiple schools. Review all provided information before logging in to IC Registration there are forms and information you need to gather before beginning. Create a new IC Registration Account by clicking Register Today where you will provide your , a personal password, and use the access code provided by your Affiliate Director. Click the Create Account button. (Accounts do not carry over from previous years.) At the next screen you will sign in using the and password you just created to start the registration process. Complete the registration process by progressing through each menu item. Access Code: Provided by Affiliate Director The Information entered into the FPS IC Registration system will be used as is for the 2018 International Conference Program. Please pay careful attention to your spelling and use sentence case, not all caps. FORMS Two essential forms are required to attend IC and be on UWL campus: Publication Release & Statement of Authenticity form (all competitors) and Behavior Contract form (all students). These forms are available on fpspi.org/ic-information/ and within the IC Registration system. Forms must be submitted to forms@fpspi.org by 15 May In addition, UWL requires that each coach/chaperone maintain a copy of insurance and a medical release form for each participant while on site. These are not turned in to FPSPI or UWL, but MUST be with the coach/chaperone. ITINERARY SUGGESTIONS Participants planning to take sightseeing tours are best served by arriving on Wednesday, 6 June. Participants arriving on Thursday are encouraged to arrive on campus by 2 PM to attend dinner and the Memento Exchange prior to Opening Ceremony. The Award Ceremony will be held from 8:45 11:30 AM on Sunday, 10 June. Please schedule departure flights accordingly (the Minneapolis airport is approximately 2.5 hours away from the venue). 6 PAYMENT All payments for IC must be in US dollars and are due on 15 May Acceptable payment options are: credit card, money order, purchase order (faxed to prior to 15 May 2018), check made payable to FPSPI, or wiring of funds. 7 Key Facts 8 May Registrations Finalized 15 May Forms and Payment Due 1 Chaperone per 8 Students Attendance at IC allows FPSPI to use any images or video in publication and on social media. CHAPERONES (21 YEARS OR OLDER) All student participants must be accompanied by an adult chaperone. FPSPI requires one adult chaperone for every eight students to stay on campus. The chaperone is responsible for supervising and monitoring the students. All chaperones must have passed a background check within the 12 months prior to conference. OBSERVERS Anyone attending IC who is not designated as a coach, chaperone, or participant is an observer. Observers are not housed on campus, but registration as an observer allows admission to all IC activities, with the exception of closed competitions and CmPS interviews. An individual observer pass is $30 and the family pass is $90 (limited to 4 family members). Admission to a single event is also permitted for a donation of $5 per person per event. Observer passes purchased on site are $40 per individual and $100 for family. Save $$ by registering for Observer passes by the registration date! Observers may create their own IC registration by completing the necessary tabs within the registration system: coordinator, schools, observers, and acknowledgements. TRAVEL ARRANGEMENTS AND TOURS Hamilton Meetings & Incentives (HMI), the official travel agency for IC 2018, offers group discounts on airline tickets, car rentals, and off campus lodging reservations; coordinates airport transfers; and manages the optional sightseeing tours. Register by Friday, 5 May for special pricing on tour and airport transfers. Olympus Indoor Water Park Shopping at the Outlet at the Dells The La Crosse Queen Paddlewheel Cruise Niagara Cave Airport Transfers: HMI is offering pre-arranged airport transfers for arrivals Wednesday, 6 June and Thursday, 7 June, and for departures Sunday, 10 June from both Minneapolis-St. Paul International (MSP) and La Crosse Municipal Airport (LSE). HMI Representatives will be available throughout the conference. 8 ACCOMMODATIONS AND PACKAGES ON CAMPUS HOUSING, MEALS, & CONFERENCE FEES Each registration must consist of either all standard or all premium packages. On campus packages include IC conference activities, residence hall housing, and meals (starting at dinner on the first night of arrival - ending with breakfast on Sunday). Please note: Meals are available only during the published dining hours; discounts or refunds will not be given for missed meals. Standard Package: The standard package includes traditional style dorm housing with same gender community bathrooms. These residence halls are not air conditioned, but have operable windows in each sleeping room and a fan will be provided upon request. One hall is equipped with an elevator. Premium Package: The premium package includes semi-private suites where two rooms share an adjoining bathroom. This hall is air conditioned, equipped with an elevator, and is located next to the dining center. Roommates must be same sex, unless they are a documented family member. Single occupancy cannot be guaranteed. On-campus housing is assigned by the staff at UWL and FPSPI. Residence halls are typically assigned according to division, and registrations are kept together. UWL offers a limited number of 3- person rooms within most residence halls that will be filled on a first request basis. Individuals who request a double room with a roommate will be matched up with another person of the same sex and general age range. FPSPI cannot guarantee requests to be housed near other teams or countries. If you wish to be housed near participants from another school, we recommend that schools register together under one coordinator International Conference Registration Information 6
9 OFF CAMPUS HOUSING Participants not housed in residence halls must still register for the International Conference. The registration fee for participants and coaches electing to stay off campus is $425 per person. A minimum registration is for a single coach/chaperone and a single participant ($850). This option includes only registration for participation in conference activities - it does not include any meals or housing. Whether staying on or off campus, the registration fee includes evaluator expenses, printing, postage, trophies, equipment, rental of facilities, operation expenses, and all conference activities except optional tours. A block of rooms at nearby hotels has been reserved close to campus. For hotel details and FPSPI conference rates please visit HMI s website: hamiltonincentives.com/fpspi2018 Keep in mind that off-campus housing may be several miles away from the university and transportation to and from the conference will not be provided. T-shirts Hoodies Pens Pencils Water bottles Mugs Playing cards Official Team Photos Snacks Sightseeing TRANSPORTATION AND PARKING Ground transportation arranged with HMI guarantees transportation to and from UWL and various airports. For those making their own arrangements, please verify operating hours of shuttles/rental agencies. FPSPI cannot be responsible for transportation to/from airports. On campus transportation is not necessary as all FPS events are within walking distance. Transportation of luggage will not be provided as all halls are in close proximity to check-in. Parking is permitted in parking lots R-5 and C-7, off Farwell Street. Camping in vehicles is prohibited on campus and on city streets. Paid parking is also available online at uwlax.edu/parking. ON-SITE CHECK-IN Upon arrival at UWL, participants must report to the Conditioning Room in the Recreational Eagle Center (number 31 on the map) for check-in. The coordinator/coach will proceed through check-in to receive IC materials, residence hall assignments, and tour passes booked through HMI. Check-in must be completed before attending any conference activities. Students can mingle, draw on the mural, or visit the welcoming table in the lobby. All attendees are responsible for their luggage during check-in. Participants scheduled to arrive on campus after 10 PM on Wednesday or 7 PM on Thursday should advise FPSPI prior to IC so arrangements can be made in advance. Those arriving late due to unexpected travel delays should call the FPS IC Mobile (321) to receive residence hall assignments. 10 DINING One dining hall and a food tent for quick meals will be available for IC participants staying on campus starting with dinner on day of arrival. To avoid long lines, meals times will be assigned by division. Halal and Kosher dietary requirements will result in an additional surcharge collected by UWL. These requests must be included in the registration and must be finalized by 8 May UWL will collect $11 for the 8-meal plan and $15 for the 11-meal plan to accommodate these requirements. CHANGES/CANCELLATIONS Changes or cancellations may be made to a finalized registration by contacting the FPSP International Office (debbie@fpspi.org). Each occurrence is subject to a $50 service fee. Cancellations made prior to the deadline may receive partial refund; emergency cancellations after that time will require confirmation of emergency circumstances. 11 EVENTS AND ACTIVITIES REGISTRATION Coordinators are able to pre-register participants in many IC events and activities. Pre-registration for all events is appreciated, however it is only required for Flag Bearers, and Buddy-Up! The flag bearer events require a registration code which is provided only to designated students by the Affiliate Director. The coordinator will designate events for each participant on the registration. Take this opportunity to preview the IC 2018 events and discuss with your students and chaperones. Event Affiliate/Mentored Region Flag Bearer Selected students carry the State or Mentored Region flag at IC Opening Ceremony. Traditionally, the flag bearers dress in costumes representing their respective region. National Flag Bearer Selected students carry the National flag at IC Opening Ceremony. Traditionally, the flag bearers dress in costumes representing their respective country. Buddy-UP! Buddy-Up! provides the opportunity to match participants from other countries or areas so they can communicate and share experiences in advance of and during IC. address of the assigned Buddy will be provided prior to IC and must be entered when registering. International Conference Choir Anyone who loves to sing can attend choir practices during the conference to prepare for the performance at the Saturday night Variety Show. Student Dances/Adult Social Saturday evening following the Variety Show students can celebrate the final night of IC at DJ ed dances while adults will have a chance to gather together and mingle. The Daily Zip Staff Anyone with a flair for journalism can sign-up to contribute to The Daily Zip 2018 final edition featuring articles and interviews submitted by participants. Parent Meeting: Parents and FPS Working Together Friday morning while the competitions are underway, parents/ adults are invited to attend this interactive meeting and connect with FPS and other parents. FPS Question & Answer Session Adults are invited to attend this Saturday morning session for Questions & Answers about all areas of FPS. Senior Student Forum Graduating senior division competitors are invited to meet and discuss their future with FPS. 12 INTERNATIONAL CONFERENCE ACTIVITIES MEMENTO EXCHANGE An FPS tradition, the Memento Exchange offers an opportunity to meet other students and adults from all over the world. This mixer is designed to bring the participants together by exchanging mementos from their respective home or region. Students may continue to trade their mementos throughout the conference. Contact your local government office for commemorative donations - anything that represents your region: pencils, pens, hats, maps, posters, pins, key chains, etc. Sometimes the Convention and Visitor Bureaus will donate items. Bring as many items as you want to exchange with people from around the world. Participants are responsible for transporting their mementos; shipping to University of Wisconsin La Crosse or FPSPI is not an option. CmPS FAIR All Community Problem Solving projects are displayed for the public on Friday. Teams and individuals share their work and outcomes. DANCES/COACH SOCIAL Saturday evening following the Variety Show all participants will have a chance to gather for fun! SCENARIO WRITING CHAMPION PRESENTATIONS Champions from International Scenario Writing Competition read their winning scenarios for an audience. Discussion between winning writers and audience encouraged! SCENARIO PERFORMANCE LIVE COMPETITION Be a part of a live audience to watch and be entertained as the competitors perform their stories based upon the 2018 International Conference topic Criminal Justice Systems. SLIDE SHOW Participants are encouraged to provide digital photos for the slide show featured at the Awards Ceremony. Details for submitting virtual photos will be provided at the start of the conference. PROBLEM SOLVING CENTRAL Problem Solving Central (PSC) is an area set up in the lobby of UWL s Student Union, known as the U, after check-in has ended to serve as an information booth to answer questions and post messages International Conference Registration Information 10
13 ZIPPY MART (SOUVENIERS) Zippy Mart (FPSPI s store) offers FPSPI publications, memorabilia and clothing. Zippy Mart will be open during specified times throughout the conference. VARIETY SHOW Students who play an instrument, dance, sing, or otherwise have talents to share should come prepared to do so! Each act must have active participants from at least two FPS Affiliate Programs or Mentored Regions in order to audition. MURAL A graphic presentation of FPSPI topics and IC events is created by the participants. PREMIERE PHOTOS A 2018 IC yearbook will be created featuring FPS competitors and events and photos will be captured throughout the conference. Save time and complete a picture order form or yearbook order form prior to arriving. You can also visit IC T-SHIRTS Pre-order and pay (credit card only) for your 2018 International Conference T-Shirt. Encourage parents and students to pre-order by 15 May to guarantee their keepsake. The link is available on the FPSPI IC information page. The IC registration number, affiliate, school/group, and adult responsible for pick-up at IC is required to order. 14 COMMUNITY SERVICE PROJECT The Hokah Area Food Shelf serves an average of 32 families a month in the Minnesota cities of Hokah and Brownsville, neighboring cities to La Crosse. Residents of these cities travel 15 to 20 miles to La Crosse to purchase groceries from big box grocery stores. This is an obstacle to many young families as well as senior residents who are unable or do not like driving that far. Hokah Area Food Shelf coordinates, supplies, and distributes items to support The Emergency Food Assistance Program (TEFAP) and The Nutrition Assistance Program for Seniors (NAPS) to qualifying individuals. Channelone is the area food bank supporting the Hokah Area Food Shelf. Mission: To provide residents of the Hokah area including Brownsville with a variety of toiletries and food. (Clients also receive advice regarding nutritious and balanced meals.) Current needs: Food products: canned mushrooms, fruit, sauerkraut, soup, pork and beans, and pie filling Hygiene products: shampoo, toothpaste, toothbrushes, and paper products Monetary donations will be used to purchase items through Channel-one. FPSPI and Hokah Area Food Shelf appreciate any donations you make. Monetary and physical donations will be accepted at check-in and the CmPS Fair International Conference Registration Information 12

The topic of Criminal Justice Systems will be the basis of the Future Scene to which the six-step process will be applied. Topic announcement and information is available on the FPSPI website under Conference Info. You may only bring the following items to the competition room: pencil, pencil sharpener, pen, highlighter, dictionary/thesaurus in paper form, pack of unopened sticky notes, calculator (non-programmable), and water. Global Issues Problem Solving Team (Junior, Middle, Senior, Adult): A minimum of two members from the original Affiliate/Mentored Region advancing team must participate at IC. Adult division teams (of 4) not able to attend IC may compete virtually for the fee of $500. Two hours is provided for teams to complete the booklet. Global Issues Problem Solving Individual (Junior, Middle, Senior): Eight challenges, eight solution ideas, and a shortened grid will be completed in the individual booklet. Two hours is provided for individuals to complete the booklet. Multi-Affiliate Global Issues Problem Solving Competition (MAGIC) (Junior, Middle, Senior, Adult): MAGIC provides an opportunity for collaboration with other problem solvers from around the world as competitors are randomly placed onto teams by division. Participants registered for this competition MUST be experienced in GIPS, thus well versed in the problem solving process. Eight challenges, eight solution ideas, and a shortened grid will be completed in the MAGIC booklet While the competition is 90 minutes, 15 additional minutes will be allowed in the beginning to collaborate. Registration for MAGIC competitors is available for the following individuals: Two MAGIC individuals may register with each GIPS team. One MAGIC individual may register with each GIPS Individual, Scenario Writer, Scenario Performer, CmPS Team and CmPS Individual. Affiliate Directors are responsible for verifying student s eligibility in GIPS proficiency. Please contact your Affiliate Director prior to registering. Note: CmPS interviews will not be rescheduled for CmPS competitors wishing to compete in GIPS MAGIC. Coaches participating in GIPS Team or MAGIC: Coaches participating in a GIPS competition will attend the Presentation of Action Plan meeting immediately following their competition to obtain pertinent information International Conference Registration Information 14
17 PRESENTATION OF ACTION PLAN (PAP) Additional information about this competition can be found by visiting the FPSPI website. The Presentation of Action Plan competitions both Friday afternoon and the finals on Saturday morning are open to an audience! Even if you are involved in CmPS, Scenario Writing, or Scenario Performance we encourage you to join a PAP team OR enjoy being part of the audience for this two to four-minute performance of the team s Action Plan. If there is a conflict with a team s presentation and a Community Problem Solving interview, the student(s) involved must choose to participate in either the CmPS interview or the team presentation. Global Issues Problem Solving teams must participate in this presentation in order for their GIPS booklet to be evaluated and to be eligible for an award. COMMUNITY PROBLEM SOLVING (CMPS) TEAM & INDIVIDUAL Additional information about this competition can be found by visiting the FPSPI website. Submission of Projects CmPS projects must be submitted for International Competitions by 25 April Contact your Affiliate Director if you need submission instructions. An additional entry fee is associated with the CmPS competition due to preliminary scoring and preparation. CmPS Fair Sharing of CmPS Projects CmPS participants must be present Friday night for the CmPS Fair when all IC participants and the public are given the opportunity to view the various projects and learn more about how the CmPS teams and individuals used their problem solving skills to solve real-world problems. SCENARIO PERFORMANCE (ScP) Additional information about this competition can be found by visiting the FPSPI website. ScP participants will present their stories based on Criminal Justice Systems in a 5 minute live presentation. Detailed instructions for this competition will be provided approximately one month prior to IC when all champions have been identified. The use of props or aids, beyond the use of the voice, are not allowed; however, students may reference a maximum of 10 (4x6 inch) cue cards. SCENARIO WRITING TEAM Additional information about this competition can be found by visiting the FPSPI website. You may only bring the following items to the competition room: pencil, pencil sharpener, pen, highlighter, dictionary/thesaurus in paper form, pack of unopened sticky notes, and water. First place Affiliate Program scenario champions and the International Scenario Writing champions are invited to participate in the Scenario Writing Team Competition where they write a spontaneous scenario based on the International Conference Future Scene. Students are randomly assigned by division to teams of three or four members. Writers are encouraged to collaborate and share their ideas as members collectively decide on a general theme and setting for a futuristic scenario. Each team member writes a section or part of the group scenario from a different perspective. Scenarios are evaluated on the same criteria used in the International Scenario Writing Competition, with additional criteria: Connection Among Team Scenarios and Relation to Future Scene Parameters. The scores of each team member are combined to determine a composite score for the team, and a best writer is identified for each division. Specifics on evaluation and the score sheet are found at the link on the FPSPI website.
