For the past fifteen years our seventh grade students have journeyed to Cape Cod for a four day/three night field experience with Nature s Classroom. The essential question they investigate while visiting various marine environments is What is our shared responsibility in using and protecting global and local resources? Over the course of the trip students spent time at Chapin Beach, which is a tidal beach, and the National Seashore. One of the goals of the trip is to allow our students to form a connection with natural environments that reinforce the need to value and protect our natural resources. Another aspect of the trip is the community building that occurs as eighty students, their teachers, and principal spend four days living together. Fun activities such as Quest, a series of cooperative tasks that the groups participated in, are designed to help our students develop trust, teamwork, communication, and cooperation which is so important to their development as human beings. This field trip is part of an integrated science and language arts academic challenge. The challenge asks students to research and report on how choices impact our local environment. It specifically has students focus their projects on choices made related to food, water, and waste. Inter Lakes Junior High Thursday, May 24, :00 p.m. Be sure to attend the 7th and 8th Grade on Thursday, May 24th at 7:00 p.m. in the Community Auditorium. The Chorus, Band, and Jazz Band have been hard at work and will be performing. Astronomy Night On Wednesday evening, April 12, 2017, Inter-Lakes Middle Tier in conjunction with Sandwich Central School sponsored its first Astronomy Night for fourth, fifth, and sixth graders. Thanks to the hard work of Mr. Reidy who partnered with the New Hampshire Astrological Society over fifty students and their families enjoyed the event. Mr. Hillger and Mrs. Hird also assisted with sponsoring the evening. The evening began with two hands-on activities led by some very enthusiastic and capable fifth grade students. Visitors then proceeded out to the basketball court to meet the volunteers from the New Hampshire Astronomical Society (NHAS) who showed up with their telescopes and no shortage of enthusiasm of their own. Participants were given a history and explanation of the various types of telescopes with examples of each present. Soon after, students and their family members were invited to look through all the telescopes and to hold a meteorite in their hand that came from the leftovers of building our Solar System. Looking through the telescopes, everyone had an opportunity to view Jupiter and its moons, stars forming in a nebula, galaxies, globular clusters and open clusters of stars. Lots of great questions were being asked by students and adults alike, and the excitement level remained high throughout the event! Overall, it turned out to be a meaningful extension of our science curriculum and an enjoyable way to bring the I-LES and SCS communities together!

2 Inter-Lakes Middle Tier Page 2 Dress Code I am very glad to see that the warm weather has arrived in New Hampshire. Based on the arrival of warm weather, I would like to remind students and parents of the dress code for I-LMT. It is essential to the learning process that students dress appropriately. Appropriate dress in the educational setting shows respect for self and others. Students are to wear shorts and skirts of modest length. A good guideline is while standing in a relaxed stance, the end of the fingertips when arms are held to the sides should reach the bottom of the shorts/skirts. Guidelines prohibit shirts that expose the midriff or cleavage. For young ladies, tube tops and tank tops that have straps smaller than one inch are not allowed. Tank tops for boys are not allowed. Clothing should fit so underwear is not exposed. Students who are in violation of the dress code will be required to change before returning to class. Parental contact will be made as necessary. The point of the I- LMT Dress Code is to promote a respectful community where learning is the focus. Please contact me with any questions or concerns regarding the dress code. Washington Boat Trip - Tuesday, June 6th - 11:45 a.m. - 3:30 p.m. 6th Graders sing at 6th Grade Ceremony - Tuesday, June 20th SUMMER CAMPS As we look forward to summer, I wanted to make you aware of a number of summer opportunities that have come across my desk for students. Shooter s Gold is a week long basketball camp that is held right at Inter-Lakes Elementary School. Shooter s Gold will be held in the Inter-Lakes Elementary School Gymnasium July 10 th -14 h. The session for students entering grades 5-8 will be held in the morning from 8:00-12:00. Brochures about the camp are available at school or for more information go to The Huot Technical Center is hosting several opportunities for students this summer. A Construction Camp is one of the opportunities open to students in grades 7-8 during the week of July 10 th - 14 th. It provides a week long, hands-on opportunity for students interested in learning about the building trades. Huot will also be sponsoring a Girl Technology Camp. This week long camp the week of June 26 th to June 30 th provides a immersive experience in all things tech. More information about these two camps can be found at Camp Lawrence and Camp Nokomis are summer camps located on Bear Island which are operated by the Merrimack Valley YMCA. Camp Lawrence is for boys ages 8-16 and Camp Nokomis is for girls These local camps accessible only by boat on beautiful Lake Winnipesaukee offer overnight camp experiences for young men and women. Their programs offer a wide range of athletic, creative, and instructional activities. These camps run in two week sessions.
