5 CHASKA CURLING CENTER FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS How do I try curling? The best way to get involved with curling would be to take a learn to curl class. These two hour classes cover rules, etiquette, sweeping, and on-ice practice of proper delivery and sweeping techniques. We ask that those new to the game participate in a learn to curl class before using the ice or playing in leagues. How and when do I sign up for a league? We are in the first half our winter season. Teams playing in the first half have the option of playing the second half which begins in January. Any league openings not taken by current teams will be available for new teams to sign up and play. We ask that you play in a league appropriate to your skill level. Beginner leagues are great for teams with little to no curling experience. Experienced leagues are for teams looking for competitive games and teams should have considerable curling experience. All league information, league openings, and registration information is posted on the Curling Center website. How many people are on a team? A curling team consists of four people. We are allowing a team to register up to 6 people to their roster. Each rostered player needs to pay the membership fee. League fees apply. What type of equipment do I need? We will have all the necessary equipment for you to come in and try curling including brooms. We ask that you carry in a clean pair of athletic shoes. Street shoes are not allowed on the ice. Limited equipment available to purchase. What ages and abilities are best for curling? Curling is a game that is accommodating to all ages and abilities. People start as young as 6 and curl well into their 70 s, 80 s, and even 90 s! We welcome all to come down and experience the greatest sport on ice! CURLING LEAGUES The Chaska Curling Center has opportunities for new and experienced curlers. Those new to the game can sign up for beginner leagues. Those with many years of curling experience can compete in one or two of our competitive leagues. We offer men s, women s, mixed, and open leagues. Men s Men s only league that may consist of any mix of new and experienced curlers. Women s Women s only league that may consist of any mix of new and experienced curlers. Mixed A mixed league consists of two guys and two gals. They must alternate gender in team order. For example: Guy-Gal-Guy-Gal. Beginner Open This league is geared towards new curlers and can be any combination of guys and gals. Older junior teams, adults, and senior teams can participate in an open league. Experienced Open This league is geared toward experienced curlers only. Teams playing in this league have many years of curling experience and can expect to play longer and more competitive games. Games will be eight ends. Open This league may be any mix of guys and gals and varying ages. Experience levels will vary as it may be a mix of beginner and experienced curlers. chaskacurlingcenter.com (952)

52 CCC GALLERY Monday Saturday, 5:00 a.m. 10:00 p.m.; Sunday, 9:00 a.m. 9:00 p.m. Chaska High School Art Memory Project Paintings and Fall Capstone Show JANUARY 3 15 Memory Project Paintings: The featured portraits are prints of original pieces created by Chaska High School drawing and painting students who worked in partnership with The Memory Project. This non-profit organization works with art students around the nation to create handmade portraits for children around the world who have faced extreme hardship. Portrait recipients gain one-of-a-kind, meaningful works of art that can become part of their personal histories, and art students are able to use their artistic skills to creatively raise awareness of global issues while practicing kindness. All works featured in this part of the exhibition have been sent to 3-5 year-old Colombian children who are part of a welfare program. The portraits were delivered to the children during their holiday celebrations in December. Fall Semester Capstone Show: This assortment of work was created by advanced drawing and painting students from Chaska High School. They have accompanied their works with an artist statement to further explain their intentions and who they are as young artists. Laura Vosika and Chris R. Powell JANUARY 16 FEBRUARY 25 Every experience of beauty points to infinity HANS URS VON BALTHASAR Sometimes Godly callings manifest as mission work with people and places. Sometimes those people and places connect us to God s universal beauty, and mission work takes us closer to that beauty. Browse our work, become inspired, and see the world through our lens, brush, and eye. You will find much here that honors our Creation and our Creator. LAURA VOSIKA has exhibited her photographic art at the Maple Grove (MN) Arts Center and on the covers of her book series, The Blue Bells Chronicles ( She tells us, I have always had a calling to music and art. I see beauty in the wings of a butterfly, the flight of a bird, and the petals of a flower. I see beauty as a God-given gift in Nature, and try to bring that out in my art, writing, and music. CHRIS R. POWELL paints and photographs, and his work also appears on the cover of his book, The Path That Shines ( He tells us, My introduction to faith was listening to Bach s Toccata and Fugue in D minor, and the Passcaglia and Fugue in C minor. Since then, I have found math, form, and art, in all parts of Nature, and my faith continues to grow as a result. I re-interpret form, structure, color, and composition, to find the details of God s work hidden more deeply. Artwork by Aaron Conner and Ryan Knight FEBRUARY 27 APRIL 1 AARON CONNOR is from Northeast Minneapolis. He studied studio arts at the U of M and works in a variety of mediums. This is Aaron s first art show to feature his photography. He started this project while battling depression and PTSD about two years ago. Initially, an endeavor into macro-photography, he had intended to take four pictures every day in search of and to remind himself that there is still beauty in the world. His intentions are to connect with other people and to serve as a catalyst for others to explore the seemingly mundane world around them. His goal is to relate to viewers the beauty that is inherent in the present moment when we take time to examine that which so often taken for granted. RYAN KNIGHT is a hearty native Minnesotan. He studied art at Atlelier LeSuer with focus on composition and illustration. He studied graphic design at the Art Institutes International MN. Working in many mediums, he enjoys the full change of seasons and the beauty and color that they bring on their own marks. Most of the recent cropping of work is watercolor or pastel or a combination. The process and subject matter is dictated by surroundings, colors and emotion. LOOKING TO EXHIBIT YOUR ART?
