1 College of Visual & Performing Arts Events 2012/2013
2 The University of Toledo College of Visual and Performing Arts is committed to offering events and experiences that explore and celebrate diversity. Look for these events, indicated by this symbol, throughout this guide. Greetings! It is with excitement and enthusiasm that we kick off the Season in the University of Toledo College of Visual and Performing Arts! We are a tremendously vibrant and active College presenting many concerts, plays, films, art exhibits and other special events throughout the year. Mission Statement The College of Visual and Performing Arts of The University of Toledo provides students with a learning environment that fosters creative scholarship and exploration. We embrace both innovation and the traditions of our disciplines. Through collaborative learning and artistic practice we prepare new artists, scholars and arts educators who will lead, challenge, and inspire. Collaboration and engagement are foci for the College and this fall, the Department of Art has invited the artist collective M12 to campus. The M12 group creates interdisciplinary site-based art works, research projects, and education and outreach programs. They will be working with art students to develop a unique body of work titled, Reclaim and Collaborate. We hope you will join us for the opening reception for this unique project on September 21. The Department of Music is featuring four amazing guest artists in concert with the Dorothy MacKenzie Price Piano Series. Each artist will present a concert recital and conduct a master class for students. In the spring, be sure to join us for the annual Spring Festival of New Music. The Festival presents a variety of new music from across a broad spectrum of genres. The public is invited and welcome to attend these free music events. The UT Department of Theatre and Film is proud to welcome Jessica Bonenfant, Creative Director of Brooklyn, NY based Lola Lola Dance Theatre, as the guest director of Jean Cocteau s Orpheus. In the spring, be sure to see the debut of the original play Ghost Light. Under the direction of Assistant Professor of Theatre, Edmund Lingan, UT theatre and film students will serve as script writers and set and costume designers for the premiere multimedia production. In addition to these offerings, the College will be hosting Cabaret Gourmet, April 6 at the Toledo Club. Keep an eye out for more details on this tasty and entertaining evening. For more information on Cabaret Gourmet and other updates, check us out online at utoledo.edu/cvpa. Spend some time with the Events Guide, pick your favorites and join us! Debra A. Davis Dean of The College of Visual and Performing Arts
