1 Next Civic Association Meeting Wednesday, February 7:30 pm 1790 SW 32nd Street EDGEWOOD Neighborhood Civic Association NEXT CIVIC ASSO- CIATION MEETINGS: Civic Hall, 1790 Southwest 32nd Street at 7:30 p.m. on the first Wednesday of each month. The next 6 dates are: February 3rd, March 2nd, April 6, May 4th, June 1st, and July 6th, 2016 BULK TRASH DATES: Bulk Trash pickup: the First Thursday of each month February 4th and March 3rd. Garbage: Every Tuesday and Friday. Recycling Bin: Every Tuesday. Yard Waste Bin: Every Friday. Volunteering is the ultimate exercise in democracy. You vote in elections once a year, but when you volunteer, you vote every day about the community you want to live in Unknown There are quite a few residents in Edgewood that do exactly what the quote above states. They drive up and down SW 15 th Avenue picking up trash a few days a week, deliver newsletters each month, help paint the exterior of the civic association building on their day off and much more. However, we need more residents to become actively involved in making Edgewood a better neighborhood. You, as a member or resident of February 2016 Issue Circulation 1000 The mission of the Edgewood Civic Association is to preserve and enhance the quality of our neighborhood, to inform the community on issues that impact us, and to be an advocate for the community s position on those issues with local and state government. INSIDE THIS ISSUE: A Word from Our President 1 Thank You from the Tuttles 1 Civic Association Mtgs Dates 1 Bulk Trash Dates 1 Mensaje de la Presidente 2 Newsletter Advertising Rates 2 Edgewood Real Estate Report 3 Ped/Bike Safety Campaign 4 Classifieds 5 ECA Membership Application 5 Edgewood on the Web! A Word from Edgewood Civic Association s President Edgewood can help change this neighborhood and make it a better community to live and thrive in. When you volunteer you show that you really care about the community that you love. How can you help? You can pass out newsletters on your own street, become a block captain, and help paint the inside of the Civic Association building and much more. We welcome your ideas and participation and look forward to seeing you at our next and future association meetings every first Wednesday of the 7:30. Please contact any board member about volunteer opportunities. Our next association meeting will be on Wednesday, February 3, 2016 at 7:30 pm. Commissioner Romney Rogers will be our guest speaker. -Wendy Wills A Heartfelt Thank You from the Tuttle Family To everyone that inquired if we found our 96 year old Mom s doggie, Khloe..I just want to thank you for caring so much. I know some of you said you had even walked our neighborhood to search. I could not reach out to all of you to say thank you and to let you know..we GOT KHLOE BACK!!! My family passed out over 200 flyers but that was not enough to cover all the homes. I was going to make more flyers and laminate copies to post outside. As it turned out Monica of Monica s Mobile Grooming had a client in our neighborhood and she saw our flyer there. Before that she had heard from Phil and Kim that they had found a frightened yorkie New Year s Eve. Khloe is so frightened of loud noises and thunder, when she slipped out of our house, she ran and ran (spotted by a neighbor) and eventually found Kim outside in a chair, and she jumped right up on her lap for comfort and protection against all the fireworks going off in celebration of the New Year. A couple days later with the connection made, we had our happy reunion. Again, thanks to everyone, with special thanks to Monica. And super special thanks to Phil and Kim for taking such good care of Khloe and returning her, even though you said you were falling in love with her.

Lauderdale REALTOR Association s database and represent approximately 90% to 95% of the closed sales of single family homes. The process to arrive at a recommended asking price when placing your home for sale is certainly not an exact science as you can see from the above recap for 2015 transactions. Three different processes are utilized to arrive at asking prices depending upon the type of property. 1, The Income Approach: This process is used to arrive at asking prices for income producing properties such as duplexes, apartment buildings, and commercial buildings. 2. The Replacement Cost Approach: Used mostly by contractors when considering new construction or remodeling. Cost per square feet, etc. 3. Comparative Market Approach: This is the most common approach used by Realtors to arrive at a suggested price when placing your home on the market for sale. Unfortunately, this is not the case here Edgewood and any older neighborhoods. Edgewood is not a cookie cutter neighborhood with 4 or 5 models that have been built recently. Fifty plus years of all types of changes and additions have taken place and those changes, GOOD OR BAD have to be considered when pricing a home for sale. Consequently, the statistical data of recent sales is very important in the pricing process, but it s also very important to have personal knowledge. of the neighborhood regarding all the changes. Good or bad, they all relate to the suggested values. If you have any questions on any of this information, please give Rose or Jack a call at: Remember we ve been in the neighborhood for you since 1980.
4 PAGE 4 EDGEWOOD The Fort Lauderdale Police Department has partnered with the Florida Department of Transportation (FDOT) to launch a comprehensive traffic safety and accident prevention campaign that runs now through May The campaign is designed to improve traffic and pedestrian safety through high visibility enforcement, with an emphasis on education. It also supports the City's Vision and Strategic Plans, and Vision Zero Fort Lauderdale, a community action plan geared toward achieving zero fatalities and severe injuries on City streets. In the coming weeks and months, the Fort Lauderdale Police Department will conduct high-visibility traffic enforcement waves, saturating areas where traffic crashes involving bicycles and pedestrians are statistically most frequent. All those who are contacted by our officers will receive safety tips and educational brochures, which will provide the link to which is an interactive website established by the FDOT. The campaign will consist of three stages. During the initial stage, violators will receive safety tips and educational brochures to assist them with being safer during their travels. The second stage will involve the issuance of written warning violations to violators, in addition to receiving safety tips and educational brochures. In the final stage of the campaign, violators will receive traffic citations as well as safety tips and educational brochures. Please do your part to create safer streets for our families, neighbors, and visitors. Slow down! Be visible! Be predictable!
