ZES Sock it to Bullying During anti-bullying week, ZES students wore crazy socks to sock it to bullying. Students also participated in wearing bright tops to show that they are Too Bright to Bully. The week will end with a student poster contest. Faculty and staff are creating anti-bullying door displays.

2 ZELC welcomes the class of At ZELC, we welcomed over 200 students this year ranging from 3-4 years old. For many of our students, this was their first time in a structured setting. We are so proud of their progress in just a few short weeks. They are learning how to play together, follow procedures and most of all enjoy learning. We expect great things from the class of 2030! 7 th graders prepare for trial. Ms. Atkinson's class is preparing to put Napoleon, the pig from George Orwell's literary classic Animal Farm, on trial for crimes against fellow animals. The students have chosen individual roles of prosecuting attorneys, defense attorneys, and witnesses. The classroom court will be held on Monday, October 19th, and a judge from the community will preside. There will be two attorneys who will participate. One will consult for prosecution and another for the defense. The consulting attorneys will visit next week to work with their respective side, and then both attorneys will attend the trial on the 19th to assist during the trial. To continue to strengthen the argument against or for the defense of Napoleon, Wade Green, the United States Attorney for the Middle District of Louisiana, and Holly Sheets, the victimwitness coordinator for the United States Attorney's Office, spoke to the class on October 9th and worked with each side to finish the opening and closing statement, as well as the questions that will be asked of the witnesses.

3 ZES Earthen Oven. Louisiana history is off to a great start. Ms. Scott's, Mrs. Noel's, Mrs. Howard s and Ms. Graves classes enjoyed savory and sweet treats from their Earthen Oven, just like the Poverty Point Native Americans of long ago. Students enjoyed hot dogs, apples with cinnamon and sugar and carrots. Jerry Boudreaux Academic Athletic Center to be named. On the occasion of the Friday, October 30, 2015 Zachary High School football game, the Zachary Athletic Foundation and Zachary High School will unveil a new sign officially dedicating our Athletic Administration Building to the late Jerry Joseph Boudreaux, former principal of Zachary High. The sign, funded by a recent fund drive of the Zachary Athletic Foundation, officially names this wonderful facility, the Jerry Boudreaux Academic Athletic Center. Jerry Boudreaux was principal of our school from 1970 through 1995 and in his remarkable life, was a community leader, educator, military veteran, Rotarian, LHSAA Hall of Fame member, Jaycee, Church leader, and volunteer for many important causes. He was a devoted husband and family man and left a legacy of serving and caring for students and the communities in which he lived. Those of you who were part of Zachary High, during his tenure, will remember him with great fondness. It is most fitting that our Academic Athletic Center is being named for him. We invite you to be present at our Friday, October 30 th football game in which we will unveil the new building sign named in Jerry's honor during a half time dedication ceremony. Game time is 7:00 p.m.

4 RPE is EGG-cited! There is a big addition to the RPE campus that has the students and faculty very EGGcited! P.E. coaches Rob Yellott and John Nagle spent many months designing and constructing the most EGG-cellent chicken coop, and the Wrangler Ranch is now open for business. The lucky residents are 4 different species of chickens, all of which lay very different eggs. The eggs are sold to the faculty & staff to earn enough money to buy the supplies to keep the chickens happy. Current production is about 3-4 eggs daily. The students love this EGGstra special part of their RPE campus! ZHS student showcased on PBS. Zachary High School freshman, Kyleigh Hankton-McCurry, was recently featured on the nationally televised program, American Graduate Day. The broadcast and online event featured a mix of national and local segments from across the country that showcased how community organizations and individual champions provide support, advice, and intervention services to students, families, and schools. Kyleigh was featured as a participant of the XCITE engineering camp for girls at Louisiana State University. ZELC welcomes Community Helpers. This week the student s at ZELC learned all about Community Helpers and the important jobs they do for our city. We had many exciting visits from our local policemen & firemen. On Friday, students were treated to a puppet show thanks to our local fire department!
