1 GREENE COUNTY EXTENSION CENTER 2400 S. Scenic Ave., Springfield, Mo Telephone: (417) August 2011 You are invited to the first conference of the Ozarks Country School Association. The Ozarks Country School Association is a community development effort coordinated out of the University of Missouri Extension office in Springfield, Mo. Membership is open to anyone with an interest in one-room schools, including current owners, former students and teachers, or local history buffs. The mission of the OCSA is to foster a deeper understanding and appreciation of the one-room school experience in Ozarks. The goals of the organization are to work with historical and community groups, interested individuals and building owners, to raise funds and awareness to maintain historic one-room school buildings in Missouri and to develop them as community centers. This new program has a national affiliation with the Country School Association of America). The highly anticipated 2011 Historic Schools Summit will be held Friday, Sept. 16, 2011, and Saturday, Sept. 17, 2011 at the Springfield-Greene County Botanical Center, 2400 S. Scenic, Ave., Springfield, Mo., inside Nathanael Greene and Close Parks (the same park that also houses the Gray-Campbell Farmstead). The two-day program will include a session about adding a property to a multi-property national historic nomination and the Missouri premier of a documentary, Country School: One Room, One Nation, along with other interesting speakers addressing a number of topics relevant to owners of one-room schools or people interested in the history or preservation of one-room schools. Participants will be both inspired and educated at this event. The annual 1850s Lifestyle Days at Gray-Campbell Farmstead will also be taking place in the same park. One of the goals of that group is to move Liberty School to the historic Gray-Campbell Farmstead and restore it. This document is your invitation to attend and contains the agenda and registration forms. Look at the content, complete the registration forms, and I ll look forward to seeing you in September.
