1 Knight Life Grand Knight Brad Istas 2639 Chaplain Fr. Bruce Bradley Deputy Grand Knight Jim Goode Inside this issue: GK Report 1 General News 2-4 Schedule 5-7 Brothers, Grand Knight s Report Brad Istas When I write my monthly report I always refer to my calendar to reflect on the activities and ceremonies that took place during the past month. May brought us several. Our observance of May s First Friday Mass was well attended. It s nice to see some of the wives and family members attend. I encourage every member of the council to attend Mass on the First Friday of the month, who knows, it might change your life. On May 5 th several members of our council attended the Collin County Christian Prayer Breakfast. The breakfast provides an opportunity for Christians of all denominations to come together on the National Day of Prayer to have breakfast, listen to inspirational music and speakers and pray for our country. Thanks to all of the brothers who support and work at Minnie s Food Pantry. You are making a positive difference in the lives of those whom you serve. There were five Sunday s during the month of May. On the fifth Sunday our council met in the Chapel of the Faith Formation Center to pray the rosary. June 10 th is the date of Council 7850 s 7th annual Charity Golf Tournament. Greg Rogers and his team of volunteers have been working hard toward making this year s charity event a success. On Friday, July 15 th our council will be hosting a BBQ Dinner for the parish. Award winning Pitmaster Tom Clarke Jr. is leading this project. The planning and preparations are in the final stages. We will need volunteers to help prepare and serve the dinner. Please consider signing up to help. Information announcing the BBQ Dinner is in the parish bulletin. We will be offering both dine in as well as take out options to accommodate Continued on page 2 Knight of the Month for May 2016 George Ferito Council 7850 s Knight of the month for May 2016 is George Ferito. George does an outstanding job serving our council as the Family Director. In this role George plans and supports all of the events and activities that involve our families. Great job George and congratulations on being May s Knight of the Month. Council Page 1
2 Grand Knight s Report Cont. from page 1 everyone. Menu includes: Pulled Pork, Pulled Chicken, Sausage, Beans, Slaw and Fruit Cobbler. You won t want to miss this one. Our Council s Officer Installation Ceremony and Dinner will be held on Saturday, June 18 th. A record number of attendees have signed up. Thank you to our Youth Director Scott Mackinaw and his daughter who planned, setup and served snow cones at the parish 40th Anniversary picnic. Scott also chaired the first annual Altar Servers appreciation dinner at the end of last month. As always, I encourage all of you to be an active member of the council. Even if you can t work as a volunteer you can join in and provide moral support to the council. We are working very hard toward keeping the meetings interesting and moving along. Attending a meeting is a great way for you to meet and socialize with other Catholic men. Council meetings are usually on the second Monday of the month starting at 7:30 pm. We meet to pray the rosary at 7:00 pm just prior to the meeting. Come and pray with us. If you haven t been to a meeting in a while come and join us. We would love to see you. We have made a change in the setup of our meeting space. We now have tables so you can sit and enjoy your refreshments and socialize with your brother knights in a relaxed environment after the meeting. I would also remind you about joining us at 7:00 am on the First Friday of every month to celebrate Mass. Don t forget to visit our web site to see all of the activities our council is involved in. There is something there for everyone. Please let me know if you have any questions or suggestions. Thanks for all you do in supporting our Catholic Faith and each other. God bless you and your families, Brad Istas Grand Knight Council #7850 Thomas Baert and Bob Belen Achieve 3rd Degree Please join in congratulating (L-R) Thomas Baert and Bob Belen who joined #7850 on Monday night, May 16th during a First Degree ceremony at St. Elizabeth Ann Seton along with five other candidates from four other councils. Bob is eager to get involved in our council events and activities, while Thomas is headed back to college and will be looking for a council to work with there. Both are eager to begin work on their Shining Armor Award and get immersed in the Knight s organization. In attendance to offer their support were Brad Istas, Jeff Baert (Thomas' dad), Bob Brennan, Steve and Michael Champion, Jim Goode, Leo Murphy, Ed Stankunas, Bob Wilson, and Dan Zech- Council Page 2
3 meister, plus Charlie Lugo and Bob Buchheit on the degree team. So be sure to seek out our two newest members and wish them well and offer your friendship and support. Dan Zechmeister Collin County Christian Prayer Breakfast Each year, on National Prayer Day, this organization ( conducts a breakfast followed by inspirational music and a keynote speaker. This year s speaker was Sheila Walsh (she's a multi-talented author, speaker, and singer with more than four million books sold). Held on May 5th at the Plano Centre, the breakfast started at 6:30 am with the program running from about 7 am to 8:15 am. The timing allows those people with jobs to fit this in before they go to work. The council has purchased a 10-seat table for the past several years. Make a note on your calendar for next year. The speaker on May 4th, 2017, will be Allen B. West (American political commentator, former member of the United States House of Representatives, and retired U.S. Army Lieutenant Colonel). Jim Goode SEAS 40th An n iversa r y Picn ic St. Elizabeth Ann Seton celebrated it s 40th anniversary with a family picnic on May 14th at Oak Point Park in Plano. The festivities included a night filled with all kinds of entertainment provided by members of our parish (Wow! What a treat!). Many ministries supported the various tasks required to man the gates, decorate, help with parking, etc., and your council handed out free snow cones to anyone who wanted one. Scott Mackinaw coordinated the snow cone effort and his daughter, Amanda, assisted. Games were provided for kids of all ages. And, if you were there, did you notice that over half of the Barbershop group are brother Knights? In the picture above right are shown (L-R) Brother Sean Corbett, Brother Bob Brennan, Brother Brad Istas, Brother Steve Freeman, Bob Sneeringer, Brother Dan Zechmeister, Keith Andrews, and Brother Jim Goode. And did you see Brother Bruce Mills in the jazz band? We were well represented in the celebration. Parishioners were scattered across the am- Council Page 3
4 phitheater and before the ceremonies were concluded founding families were recognized. Some of those founding families included Brother Bob Brennan (R) and wife Marge, Brother David Rosengrants (L) and wife Pat, and Brother Ed Wall (L) and wife Mary. To see many more pictures visit compliments of Brother Ward Lincoln. Jim Goode Family Rosary Whenever a month contains a 5th Sunday the council conducts a Family Rosary. We usually schedule the FFC Chapel to meet and pray the Rosary. On May 29th we hosted a Family Rosary that was very well attended. And it truly is a family event. Plan to attend the next one on Sunday, July 31st, 6:30 pm, and bring your whole family including grandchildren. Reinforce what they are hearing in CCD. Newsletter Policy By the 4th Monday of each month refer articles, pictures, questions, and suggestions to Newsletter Editor Jim Goode (Jim@TheGoodesHome.com). That s two weeks after the monthly business meeting. If you attend an event and snap a picture (cell phone or camera), share it with Jim. Calendar notes: Events on the following pages are bolded if they are national or church holidays or to highlight changes from the norm. Events that are shaded indicated recent changes. Council Page 4
