2 NOTICE OF STUDY COMMENCEMENT AUGUST 2006 has recently initiated a study to update the Region s Transportation Master Plan (TMP). This study will update the current plan approved in 2002 and incorporate the Province s significant changes in population and employment projections, land use and environmental policies, as well as, the Region s current Growth Management Initiative. This study will follow the Municipal Class Environmental Assessment master planning process and will focus on improving the sustainability of the Region s transportation system. Public consultation will be a vital component of this study. The public is invited to review information, discuss issues and propose solutions. Public consultation centres will be scheduled at key points in the project. The dates, times and locations of these meetings will be posted in the local newspapers and on the Region s website ( under Services > Regional Planning > Infrastructure; select Transportation Master Plan (TMP) - Update. The upcoming PCCs, held concurrently for both master plan update studies, will give attendees an opportunity to review information received to-date, including our Sustainability Principles, Evaluation Criteria, and Preliminary Findings. 5 WATER & WASTEWATER MASTER PLANS AND TRANSPORTATION MASTER PLAN UPDATES Public Consultation Centres Planning for Tomorrow serves as York Region s growth management plan. It will guide the Region s infrastructure needs for water, sewers, roads and transit for the next 30 years. The Infrastructure (water, wastewater, and transportation) master plan update studies are being conducted concurrently and as the public consultations are key components of these studies, the public is invited to review information, discuss issues, and propose solutions to address our future infrastructure needs and challenges at our first Public Consultation Centres (PCCs) for Transportation and Water & Wastewater, scheduled for November 21, 22, and 23, 2006 (see details below). The date, time, and location of future meetings will be posted on the Region s website and in local papers. Public consultation for the update to York Region s water efficiency program, Water for Tomorrow, will also be part of this round of Public Consultation Centres. After eight years of providing award winning water efficiency programs, York Region is updating the Water Efficiency Master Plan to develop incentive and educational programs for the future. How Can You Participate? Attend our PCCs - the first PCC will provide interested parties with the opportunity to comment and identify issues that should be considered in the Region s Master Plan Studies. The meeting will be held at three locations from 6:00pm to 9:00pm. Read about the studies and the issues that are being discussed.
