2 Welcome to Coquitlam s Parks, Recreation and Culture Services Summer 2011 As we grow, we need to recognize the ever-growing needs of Coquitlam and its residents. Therefore, we have restructured our department and changed our name to Parks, Recreation and Culture Services. The new name and restructuring supports the City s vision to provide quality services, facilities and programs which recognize the varied interests and needs within the community. Our Services Programs, Events and Activities Coquitlam Parks, Recreation & Culture Services has many programs, registered or drop-in, which appeal to a wide range of ages and interests: seasonal camps, sports, health & fitness, arts, crafts and hobbies. Find out more about what we have prepared for this season in this Guide, or on line at Our Facilities Swimming Pools and Arenas Poirier Sport & Leisure Complex 633 Poirier St. Coquitlam Phone: Welcome to the newly completed Poirier Sport & Leisure Complex There is so much to see and do here. The complex is an energy efficient, fully integrated ice and aquatic recreational complex in southwest Coquitlam for residents of all ages, incomes and abilities. The complex houses a 2200 seat capacity main arena, an NHL regulation size recreation rink and a hybrid curling/ice rink with yearround ice, 6 full sheets and 3 half sheets. Chimo Pool has several features which will appeal to users of different ages and abilities from a 25 metre, six lane lap pool to warm water leisure pool to large swirl pool. Also available is a steam room and a sauna constructed from native Hemlock. The Fitness Centre has 6,800 sq. ft. of space with the latest Technogym equipment and Easy Line circuit designed to introduce new users to strength training. Other amenities include multipurpose rooms including a large banquet room with patio, a designated space for indoor walking groups, a licensed restaurant facility, the Coquitlam Sports Hall of Fame Visit our new one-stop recreation facility. The complex is fully accessible and easy to get to by foot, bike, transit or car. Get fit, meet new friends and watch exciting sporting events in Coquitlam s newest gathering place for sports and recreation. City Centre Aquatic Complex 1210 Pinetree Way, Coquitlam Phone: This health-oriented facility includes a number of amenities from the free form wave pool to a 54 metre long waterslide and tots bubble pool, an eight lane, 50 metre Olympic length swimming pool, swirl pool, steam room and dry sauna. For your fitness needs, there is a 3000 sq. ft. air-conditioned Health & Fitness Centre equipped with a variety of cardiovascular conditioning equipment as well as strength training equipment and free weights.

3 Community Centres Poirier Community Centre 630 Poirier St., Coquitlam Tel: Poirier Community Centre offers a range of activities and programs for preschool, children, youth and adults. It also offers rental space for meetings, weddings, conferences and special events including birthday parties. Centennial Activity Centre 570 Poirier St., Coquitlam Tel: Centennial Activity Centre includes a large gymnasium and a multi purpose room. The Centre offers a variety of drop-in and registered programs for all ages ranging from preschoolers to seniors. Pinetree Community Centre 1260 Pinetree Way, Coquitlam Tel: Pinetree Community Centre offers a range of activities and programs for preschoolers, children, youth, adults and seniors including a Fitness Centre. It also offers rental space for meetings, conferences and special events. Summit Community Centre 1450 Parkway Blvd, Coquitlam Tel: Summit Community Centre includes a gymnasium and a multi purpose room and it offers a variety of drop-in and registered programs for all ages ranging from children to seniors. Town Centre Park Town Centre Sports Field Complex features the latest technology in construction of artificial sports fields. With the addition of the two synthetic turf fields, a baseball diamond and track & field throwing area, the Town Centre has been transformed into a world class facility. 50 Plus Centres Dogwood Pavilion 624 Poirier Street, Coquitlam Tel: Dogwood Pavilion is a recreation facility for adults 50 plus to gather, meet new people and enjoy a variety of recreation opportunities. In addition to the many programs and activities offered, this facility includes a fully equipped wood working shop, snooker room, lapidary workshop, lounge and library. A full kitchen serves meals Monday through Friday. Dogwood is located adjacent to the Rose Garden and Lawn Bowling Green. Registration for Summer 2011 programs begins May 18, :30 a.m. Glen Pine Pavilion 1200 Glen Pine Court, Coquitlam Tel: Glen Pine Pavilion offers a vibrant venue for adults and seniors who wish to be more active, meet friends and enjoy good times participating in leisure activities. Amenities include a fully-equipped Fitness and Weight Room, billiard tables, wood - working room for small projects, a computer lab and the Lemon Tree Cafe for lunch service during operating hours. Glen Pine Pavilion is located across from City Hall, on Spirit Square. Youth Centres The Cellar Youth Centre years At Poirier Community Centre, 630 Poirier St., Coquitlam Tel: A place to hang out with your friends after school and on weekends. Challenge the Youth Staff to a game of pool or ping pong, use the computer for school work or games, take in a movie or just chill and listen to some music. There are different events every weekend and it is fully supervised - and free! Parks Coquitlam has over 80 municipal parks and natural areas totalling over 2,200 acres. The parks and trails include features ranging from picnic areas and playgrounds to outdoor pools, spray parks, sportsfields and skateboard parks.
