The school attended the 54 th annual North American Invitational Model United Nations (NAIMUN) conference hosted by Georgetown University. Twelve SM students attended the conference and represented the country of Germany. The students attending the conference were: Nicole Balian, Bryce McMahon, Macy Lustig, Chloe Grubb, Ashkaan Mahjoob, Jane Hutchinson, John Grayson, Casi Roque, Josh Prentice, Molly Finn, and Caitlin Mayes. Before the conference students got a chance to tour the Washington D.C. area. Students were able to see Lincoln s Cottage, the National Air and Space Museum, the Natural History Museum, the National Mall, the National Zoo, the Supreme Court, the Library of Congress, the Folger Shakespeare Library, the US Botanical Garden, the Newseum, and Arlington National Cemetery, Students were able to visit with alum Maggie Morris 15 and she showed the students her current campus at George Washington University. Former eagle Garrett Williams 14 gave the students a tour of Georgetown university. Garrett served as the Secretary General of the NAIMUN conference that our students were attending. Garrett was in charge of an international MUN conference with over one hundred and seventy schools and over two thousand delegates in attendance. Garrett has been involved with MUN now for seven years starting as a freshman at SMCHS and continuing through college at Georgetown. Nick Michiels 02 hosted our students for a lunch at the Powers Pyles Sutter & Verville Law offices. Nathan Imperiale 03 hosted the students to breakfast at his company NJI Media. The weeklong trip was an educational and enjoyable opportunity for all of our students.

7 Hi MUN Parents! Every year MUN hosts the Father Daughter Dance for all of our female students to celebrate an evening with their fathers, grandfathers, uncles or other special people in their lives in the Moiso Family Pavilion. A big thank you again to our generous donors last year! If you would like to participate in this year s event the MUN program and its students would greatly appreciate it! We are in need of monetary support and would deeply appreciate contributions toward: the cost of the flowers for small table vases - $ the cost of decorative items - $ the cost of use of the kitchen and refreshments - $ the cost of the disc jockey - $2, If you are able to make a monetary contribution to our efforts please click here! You can also use the link provided to purchase tickets for the dance. Questions? to: remmellj@smhs.org Thank you, as always, for all of the support that you have given to the MUN program throughout this year. We of course would not be able to plan such events to support our students without your contributions and efforts. Sincerely, SMCHS MUN
8 Invitational Conferences Any time a student travels with MUN (even to local conferences) they should consider it an audition for the next year s travel trips. In addition to being a good delegate, students should show maturity, the ability to listen to and follow directions, and respect for authority. Students need to be able to get along with others in the group and be easy to travel with. Invitational Conferences - Applications Due February 27, 2017 * Please note that applications are happily accepted before the deadline too! There is no need to wait until the last minute. MUN teachers have been sending s for almost a month now encouraging students to turn in their applications early! Invitational Conferences don t count towards conference requirement credit! China (March $4300) - Senior invitational trip with a limit of 10 delegates. We would love to be able to take more but the conference limits us to ten delegates and this is about the appropriate best size for a group traveling in China. Montreal (November $3000) - Senior invitational trip with a limit of 12 delegates. London (October $4000) - Junior invitational trip with a limit of 18 delegates. Possible conflict with Homecoming Dance Philadelphia (January $2500) - Junior invitational trip with a limit of 20 delegates. Possible conflict with Winter Formal UC Berkeley (March $600) - Sophomore invitational trip with a limit of 30 delegates UCSB (February $350) - this trip is during President s day weekend (limit 20 delegates)
