Morgan Heim mlheim@iastate.edu COUNTY EXTENSION County Youth Coordinator The book Have you Filled a Bucket Today by Carol McCloud reminds us to be good citizens. We are given two options in life, we can either be bucket dippers who are people who put others down and have a negative attitude. Or we can be bucket fillers by saying kind words, donating our times and talents, and remembering to express thanks. In the world of 4-H, we have the opportunity to be bucket fillers! Have you filled someone s bucket today? How can you fill a club members bucket? Don t forget about your club leaders. They do so much for you and for the 4-H program, how are you going to fill their bucket? You could make them a Thank You card, ask them if they need help, stay after the meeting to help clean up. What are you going to do in the month of February to fill someone s bucket? I challenge all of you, including club leaders to go out of your way to fill someone s bucket today and everyday! 4-H Club Meetings Below is a listing of each 4-H Club s meeting location (if determined), time, and hosting duties for the month. 4-H Flyers February 9, 6:30 p.m., Extension Office 4-H Toppers February 9, 7:00 p.m., Waterville Library, Cota & Bresnahan Families Bear Creek Kids February 7,1:00 p.m., Dorchester Church Hall, Waters Family Big 4 Poststar February 7, TBD, YMCA Community Room Cherry Valley Chums February 8, 6:00 p.m., St. Paul Lutheran Church, Avitan & Palas Families Clover Chasers February 9, 5:30 p.m., Veteran s Memorial Hospital, Lensing & Clark Families Creative Minds No February Meeting Elon PMC February 16, 6:30 p.m., Extension Office, Bieber & Hanson Families Harpers Ferry Clover Kids February 7, 9:00 a.m., Harpers Ferry Community Bldg., Lloyd Family Lansing Blackhawks February 9, 6:30 p.m., Gavin Home, Gavin Family Ludlow Future Farmers February 9, 7:30 p.m., Farmers & Merchants Community Room, Opperman & Nolting Families Mississippi Mad Scientists February 2, 5:30 p.m., Meehan Memorial Library River Valley Panthers February 8, 5:00 p.m., Waukon Wellness Center, Ellingson & O Neill Families West Ridge Riders February 9, VMH Erika Johnson, Devin, Allie Bieber, Tucker Jackson Families *Dates, times & locations are subject to change Business Agenda 7 4-H Online Livestock ID SAVE 8 21 ALLAMAKEE ST., WAUKON, IA OFFICE HOURS: M-F 8:00 a.m. - 4:30 p.m. LEARN MORE AT Iowa State University Extension programs are available to all without regard to race, color, national origin, religion, sex, age, or disability. 1

The Iowa State Fair Little Hands on the Farm provides children ages 2 to 10 the chance to get involved with agriculture as farmers on this mock farm. They plant, harvest products, earn money at the market for their work, and then buy food at the grocery store. The program helps kids connect to agriculture by teaching them in an entertaining and interactive way. This would be a great team building activity for your entire club. The 2015 Iowa State Fair is August In order for the exhibit to run as smoothly as possible, it is necessary to have a minimum of 30 volunteers at the exhibit at all times. Each day is divided into three shifts. Volunteers would receive one admission ticket, one vehicle permit and a Little Hands on the Farm volunteer t-shirt. Please contact Morgan for additional information at mlheim@iastate.edu or at Club Meeting Requirement Reminder Due to the concerns expressed by volunteers that youth are not attending their club meetings, the Youth Development Committee is encouraging club leaders and members to draft their own club guidelines and set specific club attendance requirements within those guidelines, again this year. The club s guidelines should be in the club s program. If a 4-H er does not comply with their club s meeting attendance guidelines, he/she may not be able to participate or show at the county fair. Proof of their meeting attendance will be documented on the Application to Participate form, which is given to the club leaders to complete. These guidelines are not intended to penalize youth, and we realize that there will be extenuating factors that will prevent youth from attending club meetings. It is important the families tell club leaders when they cannot attend club meetings.
