2 Mid-American Conference Volleyball Quick Hits Toledo started off the season by winning New Hampshire s tournament, posting victories over Arizona State, Florida International and the host school. UT s Kelsey Culver was tabbed tourney MVP after hitting.515 and averaging 4.00 kills and 1.00 block per game. The win over ASU was career win No. 75 for head coach Kent Miller. Akron s Lori Snider posted back-to-back matches of 40 or more digs, highlighted by a career- and school-record 46 digs in a win over Robert Morris. The 46 digs also tied a league mark. The Zips posted a 3-1 record at the Duquesne/ Robert Morris Invitational to finish second. Central Michigan s Emily Lovejoy tallied a career-high 36 kills against Indiana State, which tied for the ninth most in MAC history. Ball State s Stephanie Keller became only the third player in MAC history to register 1,700 career digs with a matchhigh 23 digs against Valparaiso. Keller enters the week with 1,705 career digs and is chasing Eastern Michigan s Jennifer Nighswander, who holds the league record of 1,897. Miami head coach Carolyn Condit is one win shy of reaching 375 during her tenure in Oxford. She is also two wins Mid-American Conference Players of the Week EAST DIVISION PLAYER OF THE WEEK Lori Snider, Akron Sr., L Selma, Ind. (Wapahani HS) Akron s Lori Snider strung together back-to-back matches of 40-plus digs, including a school-record 46 against Robert Morris. The 46 digs also tied a league single match record. Also tallied 41 versus Eastern Kentucky. Averaged 7.69 digs per game. She also registered a career-best six kills to go with 21 digs in a win over Seton Hall. Snider was named to the alltournament team after helping the Zips to a secondplace finish with a 3-1 record at the Duquesne/Robert Morris Invitational. Sept Sept Sept Sept Oct Oct Oct Oct Nov Nov Nov MAC East Division Player of the Week Lori Snider, Akron shy of claiming career victory number 475. Marshall freshman Kelly-Anne Billingy averaged 5.36 kills, 2.71 digs and 0.71 aces per game in her first collegiate weekend. She posted three matches of 20-plus kills, including 27 in a win over Connecticut. Eastern Michigan s Emily Busch moved into third place alltime in school history on the block assists list. Busch, who recorded 14 block assists last week, increased her career total to 256. Sisters Lindsay and Bethany Piccolini played a pivotal role in the Eagles second place finish at the Ole Miss tournament. Lindsay averaged 2.00 blocks per game and hit.421 while Bethany averaged 3.50 kills and 1.50 blocks per game. Central Michigan head coach Erik Olson notched his first win as a collegiate coach against Wisconsin-Green Bay. He is the first CMU volleyball coach to earn his/her first win in their first match. Northern Illinois Tera Lobdell became only the 21st player in MAC history to record 1,400 career kills. Lobdell, who averaged a league-best 5.87 kills per game last week, stands 20th all-time with 1,416 kills. WEST DIVISION PLAYER OF THE WEEK Kelsey Culver, Toledo Jr., MB Delaware, Ohio (Olentangy HS) Toledo s Kelsey Culver is the league s first MAC West Division Player of the Week after being named MVP of New Hampshire s tournament. The junior guided the Rockets to a 3-0 record with wins over New Hampshire, Arizona State and Florida International. Hit.515 in the three matches and averaged 4.00 kills and 1.00 blocks per game. Had 15 kills and three blocks against Arizona State and 12 kills, five blocks and four digs against Florida International. Culver opened the season against UNH by hitting a career-best.684.
