Easthampton s academic program includes courses designed to meet the needs of all students and to prepare every student for college or a career. High interest, personalized, and diverse courses offerings include Computer Programming, Multi-Media Design Tech, World Languages, Calculus, Forensics, Fine and Performing Arts, and options for dual enrollment at area colleges. The faculty at Easthampton High School consists of 34 teachers, 2 guidance counselors, a school adjustment counselor, and 7 support staff. The current enrollment is 475 students. COMMUNITY Easthampton is a small New England city located in Hampshire County of Western Massachusetts. The current population is approximately 16,000. The greater Easthampton area is evolving as a destination for many new businesses, artisans, residents and consumers. Economic growth and development is clearly progressing in the area. Easthampton offers numerous opportunities for education, as it is situated near several area colleges, including Smith College, Mt. Holyoke College, Amherst College, Elms College, U-Mass-Amherst, Westfield State University, Greenfield Community College, Holyoke Community College and Springfield Technical Community College. The commitment of the community, parents, teachers and administrators to education is made obvious by the involvement of each in the activities of the school and the lives of the students. Viable proof of this commitment to education and the students is embodied in the newly completed high school. The state of the art facility offers an amazing platform upon which 21 st Century learning opportunities are offered by exceptionally committed educational professionals to wonderfully engaged young adults. SCHOOL MEMBERSHIPS AND AFFILIATIONS Easthampton High School is accredited by the Massachusetts State Department of Education and the New England Association of Colleges and Secondary Schools. The school participates in the Massachusetts Interscholastic Athletic Association and Pioneer Valley Interscholastic Athletic Conference. Easthampton High School is an active member of the College Board, MA Secondary School Administrators Association, National Honor Society, National Association of Student Councils, American Vocational Association, National Association of College Admission Counselors, Massachusetts School Counselors Association, and Hampden-Hampshire Secondary/Post-Secondary Career Vocational Technical Education Linkages. Additionally, it is affiliated with the Collaborative for Educational Services and the Lower Pioneer Valley Education Collaborative. PROGRAM OF STUDIES Courses are designed for college preparation, MCAS Exams, Massachusetts common CORE, and enrollment in Honors and AP courses. TYPES OF COURSES: Advanced Placement = (AP) Honors = (H) Academic = (A) Survey = (S) The Advanced Placement - (AP) courses are currently offered in Biology, Calculus, English Language and English Literature, Chemistry, U.S. History, U.S. Government, Statistics and Dual Enrollment (Springfield Technical Community College, Holyoke Community College, Elms College)

2 The Honors Level (H) courses provide experiences and standards that meet the needs of superior or exceptional students in major subject areas. Students qualify for AP and Honors courses through grades in previous related courses and teacher recommendations. The Academic Level (A) courses provide experiences and standards that prepare students for college or other relatively high levels of proficiency. The vast majority of courses offered at Easthampton High School are academic. The Survey Level (S) courses provide individual accommodations and although they meet common core standards, they may not necessarily be designed for entry into a 4-year college. Career & Technical Education Course Paths: Easthampton High School offers a selection of courses in a sequence that inspires talent, personal challenge, and helps students develop post-graduation plans. Students gain skills in the following areas: Graphic Communications, Early Childhood Education, Programming and Web Design. Through the Lower Pioneer Valley Career and Technical Education Center, Easthampton High School students may enroll in a half-day career & technical program. ALTERNATIVE LEARNING OPPORTUNITIES Beginning in the junior year, students who meet the qualifications may enrich their learning by selecting work based learning opportunities through Independent Study, VHS, Work-Study or Internships. Dual enrollment opportunities are also available to the highly motivated student. EARLY GRADUATION Planned completion of required courses and credits at the end of 7 semesters affords students the opportunity to complete high school requirements in January. GRADUATION REQUIREMENTS In order to graduate, students must earn a minimum of 108 credits. Students must earn 16 credits in English, 12 credits in Social Studies (8 credits in U.S. History, 4 credits in World History, 16 credits in Math, 12 credits in Science, 4 credits in Computers, 4 credits in Health, 8 credits in Phys. Ed, 4 credits in Technology, 4 credits in Fine/Performing Arts, and 8 credits in World Languages (2 levels of the same Language). Students must also pass the 10 th Grade MCAS in ELA, Math and one of the high school MCAS Science & Technology/Engineering (STE) tests: Biology, Chemistry, Physics, or Technology/Engineering. The passing grade for credit is a 60. An honor roll is determined at the end of each marking period by averaging academic grades. Students who have a 93% average or higher are considered 1st honor students. Students who have an 83% or higher are considered 2 nd honor students.
