1 Perry Meridian Bands Commitment To Excellence Perry Meridian High School Marching Falcons Parent-Student Handbook 2013
2 Perry Meridian Marching Falcons Welcome to a great season of marching band at Perry Meridian High School! I look forward to what we can accomplish together. It will be a year of excitement, hard work, fun, and new opportunities. We will come together as parents, students, and staff to work towards a common goal of education and excellence. One of our missions with the music program is to teach life lessons through the experience of music. We are thrilled that you have chosen to participate in this wonderful activity and look forward to working with you! This purpose of this handbook is to provide you with a resource for the marching band season. We have tried to cover as much information as possible, but please do not hesitate to contact us with any questions. Veteran parents are also a great resource and have a wealth of knowledge. We hope you will choose to be active in your son or daughter s experience by volunteering as a member of the band boosters, attending performances, or becoming involved in any way you can. 3 Marching Band Fees & Fundraising Marching Band Fee: $ This can be broken down into four installments, dues dates are listed below. Pay Due Amount 1 June 7 $ July 5 $ August 2 $ September 6 $ Total $ Please adhere to the above payment schedule, as the boosters need to pay bills and pay staff in a timely manner. You may pay any part of or the entire amount ahead of schedule. For the installment on June 7 and July 5, you can mail the payment to the high school: PMHS Band Ken Belt 401 West Meridian School Rd. Indianapolis, IN If other payment arrangements are necessary, please contact Mr. Belt to discuss this matter. We do not want economics to be a reason for a student not to participate in marching band! We will be evaluating student accounts during the summer. If a student account falls considerably behind, this can jeopardize whether the student can attend band camp and participation in the marching band. If an extenuating circumstance should arise, communication is the key! Why is the marching band fee necessary and what does it cover? The marching band is an extra curricular activity and we are a self-sufficient organization. The fee covers the expenses for the weeks of band camp, the marching drill and visual design, music, supplementary staff, new equipment and maintenance, new uniforms and uniform maintenance, band truck maintenance, as well as administrative costs of running a marching band. The students will also receive a show theme t-shirt to wear under their uniforms. We do try to keep to fees as low as possible, but as you can see, there are many things that go into running and maintaining the marching band. What fund-raising opportunities are available? The fund raising requirement is no longer! There will still be opportunities for student to raise dollars towards their fees, which will be discussed at this evening s meeting. There will also be fund raisers that will be strictly for the general fund of the Band Boosters. These include the State Fair Dairy Bar, car washes, jazz cafes, and other that will be announced through the year Fundraisers that can go towards a student s account to assist in paying fees are sponsorships, yellow book door hangers, and other opportunities that will be announced through the year.
