2 Page 2 E GENERAL INFORMATION EDINBURG PARKS & RECREATION DEPARTMENT The offices of the Parks & Recreation Department are located on 315 E. Palm Drive, Edinburg. Office hours are 8:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. and 1:00 p.m. to 5:00 p.m. Monday through Friday. The Edinburg Parks & Recreation Department is an official department of the City of Edinburg Municipal Government. Our objective is to provide quality recreation services to all who wish to participate. It is our hope that by providing these services, we will have improved, and enriched, the quality of life within the community. To help our staff maintain these quality services, we encourage you to call us with your suggestions and questions. 11 E Page 11 AQUACISE This excellent exercise is a slow pace water aerobics program, with little stress on the joints. Fitness paddles offer resistance in the water to help tone and strengthen muscles. Swimming ability is not required, and classes are offered to participants 15 years of age and older. (Aqua socks recommended.) Registration will be accepted at the Edinburg Recreation Center located on 315 E. Palm Drive. Registration for both class times will begin at 5:10 p.m. on the first day of class. A Gus and Goldie T-Shirt is included with each registration while supplies last. There is no need to register for a specific level. All participants will be placed into classes according to their age and skills. On the first class period, all students will be observed and tested to ensure they are in the appropriate level. If you are aware of your child s current level, please indicate this to the instructor (this will aid the instructors in placing your child in the appropriate class.) A certified instructor, and coach will conduct workouts, help improve swimming skills, teach competitive swimming skills, and work individually with swimmers. Dates:... May 2 - July 22, 2011 Time:...Spring, 6:00 p.m. - 7:00 p.m. With the exception of the last two weeks of May, schedule will be provided by swim team coach. Days:... June 10, 2011 The cost for swim uniform, swim meet entry, and travel is to be paid by the participants.
12 The Edinburg Municipal Waterpark is a three (3) pool facility which features a 125 foot long figure eight water slide. Other amenities include a sand-pit volleyball court, tanning area, B.B.Q. grills, picnic tables, and water basketball. The waterpark is located on 125 E. Palm Drive, and will be open to the public beginning Saturday April 2, For information, call or LAP SWIMMING What better way to get into shape than by swimming laps! Swim at your own pace. A chart is available to those who wish to record their number of laps for the year. A qualified instructor will be on duty to assist in stroke development and consultation. Lap swimming is designed for ages 15 and older. Dates:... April 2 - Sept. 18, 2011 Times & Days: 11:35 a.m. to 12:50 p.m... (Saturday & Sunday) 6:30 p.m. to 8:20 p.m...(mon. through Thurs.) Fee:...$10. pass = 15 swims, or $1. per visit LIFEGUARD TRAINING This course is designed for actual facility lifeguards. Prerequisites include swimming 300 yards continuously. 100 yard Crawl Stroke, 100 yard Breaststroke, and finish with ether Crawl or Breast stroke. Participants must also submerge to a minimum depth of 7 feet, bring a 10 pound weight back 20 yard with two hands on the brick. Participants must be 15 years of age or older, and class size is limited. Reimbursement of $45. will be given If the student is subsequently hired and works a full summer for the City of Edinburg Lifeguard staff in Session I...March 21 - April 2, 2011 Session II...April 4 - April 15, 2011 Session III....April 18 April 30, 2011 Session IV...May 2 - May 14, 2011 Days & Times: Monday Friday...5:30 p.m. - 9:00 p.m. Fees: $45. with an additional American Red Cross Fee of $53. to be paid separately. Participants must meet at the Edinburg Municipal Waterpark located on 125 E. Palm Dr., on the first day of class.
