4 RESEARCH EXPERIENCE Research Assistant University of Notre Dame Summer Present Conducted research for Dr. Sean McGraw (Asst. Professor of Political Science, University of Notre Dame). My primary duties were to run quantitative analysis and dataset management for a research project that examined Irish electoral attitudes and party system alignment in Ireland. Statistical Consultant University of Notre Dame Fall 2008 Served as the Department of Political Science s statistical consultant. My duties included help with quantitative research designs, tutorial on statistical computer software, dataset interpretation, and other duties related to quantitative research. Research Assistant - University of Notre Dame Academic Year Conducted research for Dr. Sebastian Rosato (Asst. Professor of Political Science, Univ. of Notre Dame). My duties were to produce a dataset of minor power-great power dyads to test the theories of economic interdependence and unique balances of power leading to regional integration. CAPPP Washington D.C. Research Seminar - UCLA Spring 2006 Conducted research into use of privatized security and the impact on civil-military relationships in weak nation-states. Research was a comparative case-study comprising Croatia, Nigeria, and Sierra Leone. Research was conducted under the guidance of Dr. James Desveaux and Teaching Fellow Phil Potter. History 197, Independent Research - UCLA Winter 2006 Conducted research into growth of Japanese Navy in late 19 th Century relating to institutional and bureaucratic origins that facilitated growth of political and agenda setting power of Japanese Navy. Research focused upon the support of parliamentary institution, political party cleavages, and nationalist ideology. Research was conducted under the guidance of Dr. Geoffrey Symcox. Political Science 199, Independent Research - UCLA Fall 2005 Conducted research into bureaucratic politics that intensified with the national security realignment of Research focused upon the defense establishment and the executive branch. Research was conducted under the guidance of Dr. Alan Rozzi. Summer Programs for Undergraduate Research (SPUR) - UCLA Summer 2005 Program administered by Graduate Division UCLA. Conducted case-study of Chinese petroleum consumption and the regional security effects for the South China Sea. Research focused upon domestic Chinese petroleum consumption, regional relations between East Asian nations, and ongoing territorial disputes in the region. Dr. Michael L. Ross (UCLA) served as faculty mentor. Political Science 199, Independent Research - UCLA Winter 2005 Conducted research into separatist violence in Aceh, Indonesia under the guidance of Dr. David 4

5 O. Wilkinson. Research focused upon economic exploitation within the province, military repression, and the actions of the Free Aceh Movement (GAM). Political Science 126, Peace and War - UCLA Fall 2004 Research consisted of case-study of Kurdish conflict in Turkey. Study focused on the Turkish efforts to promote a Turkish identity after WWI, failed attempts at creation of a Kurdish national identity, and creation of the Kurdish Worker s Party (PKK).
