Every November, I look forward to hitting the road and meeting up with my former professors and friends to present research, discuss educational issues, and share professional goals. The MSERA Conference also provides the chance to visit with those who I may see only once a year; s are nice, but it s the personal contact that makes MSERA my favorite November destination. Since we missed last year, I m giving you fair warning now: when I see you this year in Birmingham, you re getting two hugs from me! So what is new on the home front? Bill Spencer has been elected Vice- President/President Elect. We have four newly elected At-Large Representatives: Edward L. Shaw, Jr., Dianne Richardson, Jack Klotz, and Julie Holmes. Our new SDE/LEA Board Member is Laura Boudreaux Pitre, and Katrina Roper was elected as the Graduate Student Board Member. A huge Thank You to Past Presidents Jane Nell Luster and Scott Bauer for their tremendous work in creating and conducting the online election process. In March, the Board of Directors and Committee Chairpersons met for the Spring Board meeting in Birmingham. Cliff Hofwolt was appointed Executive Director of MSERA. This newly created position combines the duties of Treasurer and Executive Secretary. Thanks to Harry Bowman, Chair of the Constitution and Bylaws Committee for writing the language to make the change. John Petry has served us well as the Executive Secretary for so many years, and I am thrilled that he agreed to continue as Editor of MSERA Proceedings. Dennis Zeulke has done an outstanding job as Treasurer. Dennis, John, and Cliff met to begin the transfer of financial records and historical documents; it will prove to be a smooth transition. Caught in the Web - About MSERA - Downloadable Files - Call for 2006 Papers - Contact Information Proceedings - Deadlines - Links to related sites and organizations - Officers & Board Contacts MSERA Website Gahan Bailey The Program Chair for the 2006 meeting is Donna Herring. Donna s talent, innovated ideas, and organization will produce a great program! Gypsy Abbott and Richard Littleton, Local Arrangements Committee have outdone themselves guaranteeing us an excellent meeting site. Patrick Kariuki and Bill Persons are working on sites for 2008 and This will be Linda Kondrick s last year as Secretary, but she continues to serve as Chair of the Local Arrangements Committee for She thrilled us with details about the site: Hot Springs, Arkansas. The Board of Directors and Committee Chairpersons are very enthusiastic about the work they are doing to stimulate interest in the membership of MSERA. Please see all their names to the left of this column. MSERA would not feel like home without all the wonderful members. Thus, please make sure your membership is current. You can download the Membership Form from and you can sign up to serve on committees and participate in various activities. You may also choose to contribute to the MSER Foundation, which supports our mission in a variety of ways.
