2 New Student Orientation is designed for you! These programs and events will introduce you to the campus environment, provide opportunities for you to meet your classmates as well as faculty and staff, and equip you with the tools and resources necessary for a successful college career. Our hope is that you will attend each program and take advantage of all of the social opportunities. If a time range is indicated for an event, it means either that you have that period of time to check it out or that you will find further instructions in your arrival packet. If only a start time is indicated, please report to the specified location several minutes prior to the beginning of the event. Carry this schedule and your student ID card with you throughout New Student Orientation. Events marked with this symbol are mandatory and require your attendance.

3 Wednesday Wednesday, August 24 8 a.m. 12:30 p.m. Orientation for International Students Continues Various locations 8 a.m. 3 p.m. Airport, Bus, and Train Pickup* 8 a.m. 3:30 p.m. Residence Halls Open Resident advisors, area directors, student athletes, CARE Crew, and New Student Orientation leaders are available to help you move into your room. After that, there are plenty of things for you to do: Have your photo taken for your ID card in the foyer of Pamplin Sports Center today, 8 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. Open a bank account. Four banks are represented in the foyer of Pamplin Sports Center today only, 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Find your campus mailbox on the second floor of Templeton Campus Center. Your mailbox combination is in your arrival packet. Take a campus tour between 10 a.m. and 3 p.m. Tours depart every 30 minutes from the second-floor lounge area near Council Chamber in Templeton Campus Center. The last tour leaves at 2:30 p.m. 8 a.m. 3 p.m. Spanish Language Proctored Placement Exam If you placed into Spanish 202 based on your summer exam, you should take the proctored exam today between 8 a.m. and 3 p.m. or on Thursday between 8 a.m. and 1 p.m. Please arrive about 10 minutes before the exam time (on the hour). Templeton Campus Center, Dubach Computer Labs 8:30 a.m. 5 p.m. Bookstore Open* Purchase your Exploration and Discovery books, which you will need for your first day of class, and see what else the store has to offer. Pamplin Sports Center 4 p.m. Orientation Welcome Meet your classmates, NSO staff, and a few key administrators and start to make Lewis & Clark your home. During this event you will learn more about the expectations the college has of you in and out of the classroom. 5 p.m. Meet with your NSO group for the first time and get to know your NSO leader. 5:30 7 p.m. Dinner Join your NSO group and leader for your first dinner on campus. 7:30 p.m. L&C Scavenger Hunt (#lcnso16) Join up with your NSO group for a fun way to get familiar with the Lewis & Clark campus. The hunt will take you to important locations and will end with prizes! Stewart lawn 1 Mandatory event. *Event includes students and parents. 2

Activities will include dodgeball, wall-ball, badminton, basketball, and more. Pamplin Sports Center, Gymnasium 9:30 p.m. midnight Shopping Extravaganza Purchase groceries, school supplies, and room decorations. Shuttles leave Templeton Campus Center beginning at 9:30 p.m. The last shuttle leaves Fred Meyer at midnight (closing time). Faculty members from these disciplines will be on hand to answer questions and offer advice. BoDine 300 8:30 a.m. Music Information Session This event is for students who are considering a major or minor in music or who just want to make music. Students will learn more about the music major and receive advice about the appropriate placement in theory courses. Evans Music Center, Band Room 8:30 a.m. 5 p.m. Bookstore Open* Templeton Campus Center 9 a.m. 12:30 p.m. Campus Tours* Take a guided tour of the Lewis & Clark campus. Tours leave every half-hour (on the hour and half-hour). The last tour departs at noon. From roommate conflicts to what happens when someone breaks college policy, hear about it here. 2 p.m. The Business of Being a Student Hear about tools for registering, exploring majors, planning for future semesters, and meeting your degree requirements. You will also learn how to avoid any financial surprises. Don t worry these resources are easy to use! 2:30 p.m. Refreshment Break Templeton Campus Center, west patio 3 p.m. Connecting With Tech and Staying Healthy on Campus Learn how to be successful with technology on campus (from getting connected to finding help), and hear about the resources you can use to keep you safe and in tip-top condition. Your NSO leader will inform you of your group s assigned location. Templeton Campus Center, Stamm Dining Room or Council Chamber 4 p.m. Assemble for Class Photo and Opening Convocation Students should assemble on the Glade to pose for a photo of the incoming class. Students will be led to Convocation immediately following the photo shoot. Parents will take their seats in the stadium. Glade in front of Pamplin Sports Center 4:30 p.m. Opening Convocation* Join faculty and staff for your formal induction into the proud tradition of Lewis & Clark! Speakers include President Barry Glassner and Kimberly Brodkin, associate professor with term of humanities. Griswold Stadium 5:45 7 p.m. Picnic With Parents, Faculty, and Staff* Come join the picnic and enjoy the jazz tunes of Portland s Dan Balmer Trio. Dinner will be provided for students, parents, faculty, alumni, and staff. Quadrangle between J.R. Howard Hall and BoDine 7 p.m. Say Good-bye* Parents Preview concludes. Spend a few moments saying good-bye to your family members. Templeton Campus Center, Thayer Conference Room Noon 4 p.m. 1:15 p.m. 1:30 p.m. Exploration and Discovery Kick-off Lecture Jon Arakaki, adjunct professor of Exploration and Discovery; Se-ah-dom Edmo, coordinator of the Indigenous Ways of Knowing (IWOK) Program at the graduate school; and Darrell Millner, professor emeritus of Black studies at Portland State University, will discuss this year s theme: What s in a Name? Historical Memory at Lewis & Clark College. 2:45 p.m. Assemble in Exploration and Discovery Classrooms Students will meet their instructors by section. Stewart, Odell, and Akin (SOA) lawn 7:15 p.m. Shabbat Service Everyone is welcome to join in this joyous Jewish Shabbat service, followed by an Oneg Shabbat. Hillel staff and returning students will lead Kabbalat Shabbat prayers. Gregg Pavilion 7:30 8:30 p.m. Tweet and Boba With the Dean of Students Drink bubble tea and learn about our dean s keen interest in Twitter while asking questions about Lewis & Clark life. Selfies are likely. Free tea for the first 200 students. Plaza in front of Maggie s Café 8 p.m. midnight 8:30 p.m. Copeland Game Night Come hang out in the Copeland lounge, play some board games or Wii, and eat snacks. Get to know your classmates while beating them at Monopoly and Mario Kart. Copeland Main Lounge 9:30 p.m. Pub Trivia Get a preview of Campus Activities Board s monthly Pub Trivia Nights (all ages welcome). Run by Rain Brain Trivia, these evenings include fun and challenging trivia from popular culture and academic topics. Maggie s Café 9:30 p.m. SCRIPTed Improv Show SCRIPTed is Lewis & Clark s improvisational comedy performance troupe. Join us for a fun evening of creativity and laughter. Templeton Campus Center, Council Chamber 11 p.m. midnight Late-Night Breakfast Saturday, August 27 9 a.m., 10:30 a.m. Mathematical Proficiency Exam All incoming students must take this exam. If you still need to take the test, or if you would like to take it again, this is your chance. Sign up at tinyurl.com/nsoaleks. We ll provide pencils, paper, and calculators. We will discuss annual renewal criteria, meet other awardees, and begin planning our engagement for the year. Share music and poetry, and learn how to get involved with the Co-Op. Tamarack basement, Co-Op 7 p.m. S mores in Forest Hall Head over to the Pac-Man lawn after dinner to enjoy s mores! Bring a blanket and hang out for a bit, or just stop by on your way to another awesome event. Either way, we look forward to seeing s more of you! We will meet at the main entrance of the chapel and then carpool to the 11 a.m. Eucharist at Our Lady of the Lake Catholic Church. 11 a.m. 1 p.m. Brunch Beginning today, you will need your student ID card to enter Fields Dining Room. Your NSO card will not work. Noon midnight 1:30 p.m. Embrace the Awkward: Sex, Communication, and Campus Safety With Marty Liccardo This might get a little awkward. Enjoy a quick and dirty discussion on sex, sexual violence, communication, and safety on campus. We will explore healthy sexuality, violence prevention, and bystander intervention with curiosity, humor, and honesty. 2:30 6:30 p.m. Open Outdoor Pool Lower campus, Outdoor Pool 3 p.m. Ultimate Frisbee Take part in an informal coed game and talk to members of Lewis & Clark s two nationally competing teams about opportunities to participate. After our railride, we ll stop by the Tillamook Cheese Factory for an ice cream. Sign-up begins on Friday, August 26 at 9 a.m. Space is limited. Graduate Campus, Sequoia building 2:30 4:30 p.m. Pioneer Log Orientation, BBQ, and Swim Party Anyone interested in writing, illustrating, or taking pictures for our school newspaper should attend the PioLog orientation to learn more, meet current staff and students, and get involved. The barbecue and swim party will be at the outdoor pool by the grape arbor following orientation. Templeton Campus Center, Thayer Conference Room Monday, September 5 Labor Day 11 a.m. Explore PDX Catch the Pioneer Express downtown where you can explore Portland by TriMet bus or streetcar. Stop by the table outside Fields Dining Room for tickets; Student Activities will be handing out free TriMet tickets to the first 100 students.
