1 College of Food, Agricultural and Environmental Sciences Ohio State University Extension - Fairfield County 831 College Avenue, Suite D Lancaster OH Phone Fax fairfield.osu.edu A Word from Your 4-H Educator What a wonderful month of 4-H camps we had in June we could not have asked for better weather! I cannot believe how great the counselors and adult staff were to work with in preparation and conducting all three of our successful camps. Sue and I certainly could not do this without them. Thank you! Summer judging proved to be another exciting event for this summer as I watched youth of all ages bring project displays or garments in for judging. What an outstanding job they have all done to make it to judging week. Thank you to volunteers and parents who help make that happen! Many youth went on to the Ohio State Fair and had great experiences and top honors for their projects. Summerfest will bring this full circle as we recognize the accomplishments of our outstanding youth who participated in summer judging and the Ohio State Fair last month. I am looking forward to committees meeting again in preparation for events this fall including the Fairfield County Fair. I hope everyone has had a great summer and good luck to all families as school starts back up again. Please make sure you read this August newsletter completely as it is full of information for the upcoming fair. Please share information with your 4-H families as needed. Finally, I d like to share that our 4-H Program Assistant, Sue Suttles, retired July 31 st after 26 years with OSU Extension and Fairfield County 4-H. As you all know, Sue has been extremely helpful during her time in this position and she will be greatly missed here at the office! We wish her all the best as she enjoys retirement and serving as an advisor for her club! In lieu of gifts, you are welcome to send Sue a card to the Extension Office and I ll be sure to get these to her. Thank You Notes: We need to make sure our sponsors receive thanks and appreciation for supporting Fairfield County s youth! This would include youth applying for the Bertha Wilson Scholarship, receiving awards at Summerfest, as well as Junior Fair Exhibitors. Please make sure your Junior Fair Exhibitors who received awards this summer and at the fair write thank you notes to the sponsors of their awards. Several people took lots of time making sure an address label of the particular sponsor was placed on the back of each award or attached a thank you note card to a trophy. I am also aware of sponsors who have stopped donating for fair awards because they did not receive one thank you note. If a member is not sure of their sponsor for an award received at the fair, check out the Awards Portion of the Junior Fair Book as it gives the name of the sponsor. If you aren t able to find an address, contact the OSU Extension Office and we can help you find it! Also encourage youth to include information about their project, award received, etc. as the sponsors enjoy reading this information! Sponsors also love pictures!
