BRINGING YOUTH SPORTS TO OLD TIGER STADIUM AND TO EVERY CORNER IN DETROIT
What if you were given the chance to better the life of a young child in Detroit Would you take it?
Now, imagine the change we d see in our city if you bettered the lives of 12,000 kids
And, what if we said that you could help raise that number to 15,000
How much would you give to make that change today?
Now s Your Chance Detroit Police Athletic League, one of the most successful youth mentorship and sports programs for over 40 years in Detroit, has a plan to: Expand its programs and organization into more Detroit communities Redevelop the historic site of old Tiger Stadium into a safe and healthy playing field and permanent headquarters for Detroit PAL Positively influence and develop a new generation of leaders for Detroit
Detroit PAL Is Changing the Game Detroit PAL has seized the opportunity to lead the redevelopment of the historical old Tiger Stadium, located on Michigan and Trumbull The Detroit Economic Growth Corporation recently approved the redevelopment plans presented by Detroit PAL A $3 million federal grant secured by Senator Carl Levin made through the Old Tiger Stadium Conservancy has been earmarked for Detroit PAL. But it s only a start
Bringing Sports Back to Old Tiger Stadium For generations of Detroit sports fans, there s no place more hallowed than The Corner at Michigan and Trumbull, home of old Tiger Stadium The footprint of the diamond echoes the cheers of millions of fans gathered to watch the greats play ball Now, our city s youth can play on this same field.
We All Know That Sports are one of the greatest tools we have to help children develop positive character traits and life values Team sports teach important life lessons like positive attitude, mentorship, building character and playing by the rules Physical activity can improve cognitive skills and academic performance Kids who play sports are eight times as likely to remain active into adulthood Young athletes are three times more likely to graduate high school and go on to college
and Detroit PAL Participants Agree I loved seeing the girls grow as a team and work together as the season went on. The season as a whole was outstanding. My son s overall confidence has improved greatly in his ability to overcome shyness he was very shy before this basketball season. He loves the game and remains focused on his education. A 2014 survey of over 3,000 athletes, coaches and parents resulted in a Detroit PAL satisfaction score of 4.41 on a scale of 5.0, an increase from 4.18 in 2013
What This Plan Means for Detroit PAL For more than four decades, Detroit PAL has made a lasting impact on the youth of Detroit, using the lessons of team sports to build character Every day, our 1,500 dedicated police officers, volunteer coaches and mentors instill a sense of pride, confidence and ambition in our young athletes This redevelopment will grant Detroit PAL the opportunity to: 1. Expand the quality, quantity and reach of our programs further into Detroit s communities 2. Preserve the historic playing field beloved to Detroit and sports fans around the country 3. Strengthen our neighborhoods by bridging our city s youths with dedicated public servants
What This Plan Means for Detroit PAL 4. Build a prominent, permanent headquarters and training center for Detroit PAL s 12,000 athletes, their families and 1,500 volunteers 5. Raise the organization s national profile and reputation, growing the donor base and connecting the thousands of Detroit PAL alumni to iconic old Tiger Stadium 6. Provide additional sustainable revenue from tournaments and special event space
What This Plan Means for You Grant more Detroit kids the opportunity to dream big and develop the skills necessary to succeed in life Join a league of adult supporters who provide all Detroit PAL kids with coaching and caring mentorship Be part of the revitalization of Detroit, thus a better Michigan
But We Need Your Help Construction and redevelopment of old Tiger Stadium.. $11M Sustainability fund for first year of programs $2.151M Operational fund for first three years in new headquarters... $2M Total Kids at The Corner campaign costs... $285K Total Kids at The Corner costs. $15.436M Commitment of the HUD grant proceeds.. $3M Detroit PAL s total fundraising remaining.... $12.436M
This Is a Once-in-a-Lifetime Opportunity! Detroit was built on courage, opportunity and skill. Now is the time to be courageous. Let s build Detroit s future leaders by giving them the opportunity to develop the skills necessary for success.
Are You In? The Corner is where new dreams will come true and where leaders will be born Join our Detroit PAL Kids at The Corner campaign by pledging your financial support Your gift will return the cheer of the crowd, the crack of the bat and the thrill of rounding the bases back to this legendary field Help a new generation of kids become our future leaders and good citizens
Join Us! You can be part of the change by investing in Detroit s kids!
