1 P R O F I L E S O F T H E C A N D I D A T E S PATTYE JACKSON-BROWN Candidate for President Pattye Jackson-Brown is a native of Robersonville, NC. She is a 1986 graduate with a Bachelor of Science in Business Administration and a 2001 graduate with a Master of Arts in Agency Counseling. An active member in the Durham Community for over 32 years, she is a member of Gethsemane Missionary Baptist Church where she serves as a trustee. She represented the Durham County Department of Social Services on the Lincoln Community Health Center Board for four years while serving as chair of the Fundraising Committee of the Durham Chapter. She served as president of the Durham Chapter from Currently she is vice president of the National Alumni Association. She has two daughters: Jayven 91 and Jessica and three grandchildren: Jermani, Jada, and Joshua. Vision for the NAA: As president of the National Alumni Association:..I pledge to enlarge the membership base, with a major focus on partnering with the college in an effort to develop regional support, recruitment and increased alumni giving...i pledge to continue building towards a more supportive relationship between the alumni association and the college...a long range goal will be to re-establish a functioning alumni house.

Merritt (St. Augustine s College Class of 1961). Proud mother of Benita Hood (Michael - husband) Grandmother of two beautiful young ladies, Adonya and Daniele Hood. Currently serving as St. Augustine s College NAA Secretary and President of the Raleigh/Wake Retired Alumni Chapter of SAC NAA. 3 SHERRY A. MILLER Candidate for Assistant Secretary Ms. Miller was born in Windsor, North Carolina and graduated from Bertie Senior High School in She attended Saint Augustine's College and received a Bachelor of Arts degree in 1980 and a Master of Arts degree in 1996 from Central Michigan University. She was commissioned as a second lieutenant in the US Army from Saint Augustine's College. Ms. Miller served 20 years as a Military Intelligence Officer in various commands and positions to include platoon leader, executive officer, company commander, and operations and plans officer. During her Army career, Ms. Miller was assigned to various military assignments throughout the country and world. She served at Fort Riley, Kansas; Okinawa, Japan; Fort Bragg, North Carolina; Key West, Florida; Seoul, Korea; Fort Meade, Maryland; and Fort Myer, Arlington, Virginia. She has conducted temporary duty in Honduras, Germany, Congo, Angola, Cameroon, and the Republic of Congo. Her final assignment in the Army was at the Training and Doctrine Command, Fort Monroe, Virginia. Ms. Miller is also a veteran of the DESERT STORM War. Upon retirement, Ms Miller joined the Joint Warfighting Center in Suffolk, VA in October of 2000 as a senior military analyst. She is currently married to retired Lieutenant Colonel Kenneth Madison of Alabama and she has a 19-year-old daughter, Courtney. Presently, she and her family reside in Suffolk, VA. 5 Vision for the NAA: I plan to use the new term to create reporting processes that will ensure all chapters are in compliance with IRS tax reporting guidelines, as well as convert all financial data from a manual to automated reporting system.

6 WILLIAM THOMAS NEWKIRK, SR. Candidate for Alumni Trustee William T. Newkirk, Sr. is a native of Rocky Point, NC, and has lived in Raleigh, NC since He is the elder son of Mrs. Doris T. Newkirk, who resides in Rocky Point, NC. His wife is the former Catherine Delores White of Spring Lake, NC and they are the parents of three adult children and four grandchildren. He has earned degrees from St. Augustine s College, East Carolina University, Shaw University Divinity School, the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill, and an honorary Doctor of Divinity Degree from Virginia University at Lynchburg. Dr. Newkirk was a professional educator for 32 years before retiring in April, His former positions included serving as a Juvenile Counselor in Bronx, NY; employment in public education, serving as a Federal Programs Director, an Assistant Superintendent, and Interim Superintendent for a school district in North Carolina; Dean of Students at St. Augustine s College, Raleigh, NC; Division Director at the North Carolina Department of Public Instruction; and Associate Executive Director for the North Carolina Association of Educators, both of Raleigh, NC. Dr. Newkirk has authored two books, and spent six weeks in Japan studying the Japanese culture as part of an education exchange program through the US Office of Education. He has been an ordained Baptist minister since September, He served as Pastor of the New Bethel Baptist Church in Clayton, NC for four years and has been serving in his present position as Pastor of the Oak City Baptist Church in Raleigh, NC for the past 23 years. He serves as the Moderator of the Wake Missionary Baptist Association, Raleigh, NC. Dr. Newkirk has served two terms as President of the National Alumni Association of St. Augustine s College. He is presently serving his first term as a member of the St. Augustine s College Board of Trustee (NAA Alumni Representative). He serves as Secretary for the SAC Board of Trustee. Vision for the NAA. The Alumni Trustee represents both the College and the National Alumni Association. I will champion the interests and concerns of the alumni during all relevant Trustee deliberations. I will keep the alumni informed of Board actions that can be legally shared.
