2 PROFESSIONAL EXPERIENCE College at Brockport is a master s level college within the State University of New York system (SUNY) located near Rochester, NY with enrollment of 8,300 students. Assistant Vice President, Student Affairs 2008 present Reporting to the Vice President for Enrollment Management & Student Affairs (EMSA), provide leadership and administrative direction to nine direct reports who serve as the directors for the following areas: Residential Life/Learning Communities and Student Conduct; University Police and emergency operations management; Intercollegiate Athletics (NCAA Division III); Student Union & Activities, Community Development; Health & Counseling; Recreational Services; Student Leadership Development; and Career Services. Overall administrative responsibility includes 75 full-time staff and over 250 student employees; the total divisional budget of $33 million; and facility oversight of the college union, athletic facilities for 23 intercollegiate sports, a recently opened $44 million recreation center, the health center, 13 residence halls and one apartment complex. Selected Responsibilities & Achievements Provide leadership to the development and maintenance of policy and procedures to comply with state and federal mandates and guidelines related to the Clery Act, Title IX, emergency operations management, and FERPA. My involvement has included providing administrative support during a US Department of Education audit of Clery compliance in Fall 2013 and providing coordination of the re-alignment of Title IX responsibilities and training. Annually I provide support to the coordination and training for emergency operations management using the Federal Emergency Management Agency national incident management system protocols. I also provide support to the review and update of the Student Code of Conduct, Title IX requirements, and other college policies based on changing laws and mandates. Created new divisional budget processes to manage and allocate divisional funds based on actual spending, annual plans, and strategic priorities. These changes have allowed for increased dollars for initiatives including first-year student enrollment strategies, the leadership development program, living-learning communities, summer orientation, career services, emergency operations management, and interior improvements for facilities. Developed and successfully garnered student support and approval from SUNY to asses a new student fee to fund the operating expenses for a $44 million recreation center which opened in Fall Revised position descriptions and realigned staff responsibilities in the areas of Residential Life, Community Development, Intercollegiate Athletics, Career Services, Health Promotions, and Student Union & Activities to gain efficiencies and re-prioritize staff support to focus on student learning and engagement and fiscal sustainability. These changes have resulted in several new programmatic initiatives, increased student involvement, and 10-year financial and facilities planning for residential life. Created and chair the division-wide EMSA Assessment Team (EAT) to train and develop assessment champions for each of the 16 departments in the division using Learning Reconsidered 2

3 and Assessment Reconsidered as the guiding resources. In 2012, the Middle States Commission on Higher Education, as part of Brockport s decennial accreditation process, recognized EAT as the model campus system for assessment and continuous improvement at Brockport. Co-chair with the Vice Provost the Institutional Effectiveness & Accountability Committee (IEAC) which provides leadership, oversight, and support for college assessment efforts. Created the organizational structure, planning cycles, and work flow systems to articulate the College assessment process; created systems for information sharing between college-wide committees and IEAC; and created systems to monitor the college strategic plan. In collaboration with the Assistant Provost for Diversity, served as a leader in creating the Institute for Engaged Learning (IEL). As a collaborative initiative between Academic Affairs and EMSA, the IEL serves as a portal to connect students with high-impact academic experiences that have been identified to promote student success. With three faculty members, attended the American Association of Colleges & Universities Institute on High Impact Practices and Student Success in June Currently serve on the IEL steering committee, chair a committee to identify high-impact cocurricular practices, and serve as a member of the faculty-led committee to explore how a culture of academic engagement can be enhanced at Brockport. Currently working with a new director for career services to engage faculty in a re-engineering of the department to create a career development program that supports students at different stages in the student life cycle, including collaborating with the first-year and second-year experience programs to provide career and major exploration opportunities to students in these critical years. Provide administrative oversight to the Hazen Center for Integrated Care which includes health and counseling centers, which both are accredited by Accreditation Association for Ambulatory Health Care Inc/AAAHC, and a comprehensive program for prevention and outreach services. Hazen boasts some of the lowest student fees in the SUNY system; award winning programs for bystander intervention, sexual assault and relationship violence education; and has helped Brockport to reduce binge drinking rates to lower than average as benchmarked by the CORE alcohol and drug survey. Strategic partnerships with local hospitals and psychiatric services have allowed for seamless care for the growing demand for mental health services. Provide administrative support to the Living Learning Communities (LLC) Program that connects first year students with faculty in the residence hall setting. The program has grown from 100 students in two communities in 2008 to 650 students in 23 communities in Created a faculty advisory board to advocate for the LLCs and recommend new communities. The LLC program also includes faculty-in-residence opportunities and graduate assistant placements. Created the Student Leadership Development Program a comprehensive program based on the Social Change Model of Leadership that boasts involvement of over 120 faculty and staff annually as mentors and workshop presenters, an annual leadership conference, certificate programs, community service, and an academic course. Student learning outcomes are clearly communicated and assessment systems are integrated into each aspect of the program. Since its inception in 2009 over 1,200 students have participated in the program. The program was recently recognized with the 2014 Grand Bronze NASPA Excellence Award. 3
