On June 26 th, prior to the food drive and Jr. Leaders meeting, we will have a 1 (one) mile run/walk open to all on the fairgrounds. Registration will be from 4:30-5:00 PM and we will begin at 5:15 PM. When you cross the finish line you will be showered with 4 -H green powder! It is non-toxic and easy to clean, but we would recommend that you bring old clothes. At registration, if you bring 5 nonperishable items of food (above and beyond what is brought for the club competition), your name will go into a drawing for either a tee shirt or sunglasses. We will draw at 5:00 sharp! Join us, your friends and club members for a fun start to the Tippecanoe 4-H Fair! Community Service Challenge Once again we are excited to challenge every 4-H club to collect food items for those in need in our area. This year we are donating to St. John s Food Pantry. We are also collecting pet food for a rescue shelter at Crystal Creek Kennels. In addition, we will collect pop tabs for the Ronald McDonald House. Summer is a crucial time for these organizations to receive donations and they need our help. As 4-Hers, we are here to serve and help meet the needs of those in our community. As an incentive, 4-H clubs who collect the most amount of food (measured by weight) will receive pizza gift certificates. We will collect all food items at the Junior Leader Meeting on Thursday June 26th at 6:00 p.m. in the Home Ec Bldg.

4 PAGE 4 Tippecanoe Tabloid Demolition Derby Mark your calendars to join us at the Fairgrounds for the Demo Derby Saturday, July 26. Sponsored by the Tippecanoe County 4-H Exhibit Association State Fair 4-H Livestock Entry State Fair online entry is available again this year for all animal projects. The State Fair entry deadline is June 1st for Beef, Sheep, Dairy, Swine and the fee is $15 per species (not per animal.) For other animals (cats, dogs, horse, llamas, goats, poultry, rabbit, and waterfowl) the deadline is July 1st. There will be a $5 processing fee for each paper entry submitted. That processing fee will not be assessed for exhibitors using online entry. If you mail your entry, it is strongly recommended that you use certified mail. Hard copy forms are available in the Extension Office. Just like last year, there will be a $10 fee for a multi-day exhibitor parking pass. Preparing for the County Fair All posters, display boxes, notebooks, entomology boxes and educational displays exhibited at the 4-H Fair must use a special nametag provided by the Extension Office. Mini 4-H ers may also use these tags on their projects. Tags are not needed for Arts & Crafts, Foods, or Sewing. These tags are 3x3 inches and are to be mounted on the lower right hand corner on the front of posters and display boxes. They should also be affixed onto the front of notebooks, displays, etc. Plan accordingly when making your posters and projects. These nametags are available from the Extension Office or from your 4-H Leaders. Foam-Core Boards Available We have foam-core boards available for sale at the Extension Office. We are selling them for $3.00 with sleeve. These boards currently meet the size requirements for all posters displayed at the fair. Be sure to get yours now!

Why not use your drawing skills to design a cover for next year s edition? All county 4-Hers are encouraged to submit a drawing that fits on a legal-size sheet of white paper, 8 1/2 x 14. The text should include 2015 Tippecanoe County 4-H Handbook with your small signature somewhere on the drawing. The rest of the design is left up to you. Mount the picture on a piece of stiff cardboard and on the back include your name, address, 4-H club, and age. Drawings are due to the 4-H Office on the fairgrounds by Friday, July 25. Wolf Park Offers New Opportunity for Youth Beginning in late May, Wolf Park, located in Battle Ground, is offering a new program designed for young adults ages 13 to 17 who are interested in learning more about its resident animals, nature, conservation, and what happens behind the scenes at a non-profit animal park. For more information, visit wolfpark.org and click on the Youth link.
