3 The Aim Ideas Summit spotlights just how comprehensive our commitment is to accelerating Indiana municipalities. We packed in more than 150 exhibitors, organizations, and state agencies specializing in municipal government solutions, an exciting mix of speakers, 33 workshops, networking opportunities, and one-on-one consultations into a mere three days. Aim President and Evansville Mayor Lloyd Winnecke will host us at the Old National Events Plaza and brand new DoubleTree by Hilton Evansville. There is also some association business that needs to happen at the Conference. Be sure to attend the Opening and Closing Business Sessions to help elect Aim officers, board members, and formulate policies for the coming year. WORKSHOPS It wasn t easy to accomplish given the short time we have together, but we found a way to put a tremendous amount of educational programming into the first Aim Ideas Summit. This year s 33 workshops are diverse and offer a great mixture of technical, nuts and bolts skills, and big picture development and quality of place topics. As always, there will be a lot of Continuing Legal Education credits and Continuing Professional Education credits. For those who attend our extended Early Bird topics, credit will be offered towards your Aim Municipal Management Institute certification. Look for this year s workshop topics in this brochure and check the Aim website frequently for topic descriptions and workshop speakers as they become available. EARLY BIRD WORKSHOPS Earn MMI credit! Tuesday, October 10 Aim Municipal Management Institute 1:15 p.m. 2:45 p.m. Latino Affairs Symposium for City and Town Leaders This extended workshop will be the first in a series of workshops helping municipal leaders understand issues of importance regarding Indiana s growing Latino population. Comprehensive Community Development and Placemaking for all Hoosier Communities Participants will learn more about community development and placemaking and why they are critical to economic development in the Hoosier state. Public Water Supply Issues facing Cities and Towns: How will you Cope? Understanding Indiana s water supply challenges and what lies ahead is critical to understanding your options. 4 KEYNOTE SPEAKER: Jim Hunt Jim Hunt speaks, trains, and writes on leadership development in local government and assisting communities in maximizing their potential. He is the founder of Amazing Cities, an organization dedicated to creating excellence in municipal government. He also serves as an advisor to the National League of Cities, Service Line Warranty Program administered by HomeServe USA and visits dozens of cities each year on behalf of the program. Jim is also co-creator of The Reinvent Project, a initiative to assist veterans and others adjust to reentering the workforce. Jim served in elected local office for over 27 years and has played a prominent role on a state, national, and international level in advancing the cause of effective local governance. In 2006, American City and County Magazine named Jim as Municipal Leader of the Year. He was inducted into the West Virginia Municipal League, Hall of Fame and serves as Ambassador Emeritus to the Chief of the U.S. Army Reserve. Jim has presented throughout the world on the topics of leadership, community revitalization, and inclusiveness. He was a featured speaker at the Connecting Communities Conference in Caux, Switzerland in 2001 and traveled to the Peoples Republic of China in 2002 as part of a U.S. State Department mission. In 2005, he was a RUPRI Fellow in Brussels, Belgium. During his tenure as President of the National League of Cities, the oldest and largest organization representing municipal governments, Jim traveled throughout the United States speaking to over 25,000 local municipal officials on excellence in local government. Jim writes on issues important to local government and has just released his new book, The Amazing City-7 Steps to Building an Amazing City and is the Co-Author of Bottom Line Green- How America s Cities are Saving the Planet (And Money Too!) Jim is also well known for creating the Partnership for Inclusive Communities, a national effort to create an inclusive approach to government. The partnership was featured in a front page article in USA Today and has grown to include over 161 cities representing over 20 million citizens. Jim has appeared on C-Span, NPR and is regularly quoted in national media outlets on issues concerning local government. He has also been a contributor to National Public Radio s All Things Considered program. CONSULTATIONS There will be several opportunities for you to meet one-on-one with experts representing several popular Aim programs. Representatives from the Aim Procurement Card (p-card) will be on-hand to meet with you and answer your questions on how the program can benefit your community. Comcast Newsmakers will be returning to the conference to help you get your message out. Sign up to be interviewed and use the professional quality video in your community. Round up your financial questions and bring them to the conference. The State Board of Accounts will have representatives staffing their Resource Center on Wednesday, October 11. AIM INDIANA While packing your bags for Evansville be sure to download the Aim Indiana app, Aim s free mobile app for iphone and Android devices. Closer to the conference you ll find details on all events and workshops and you can even create your own schedule to keep yourself on track! In addition to workshops, the app will have directional and parking instructions and information on featured speakers and sponsors. And, when you aren t using the app for our many events throughout the year, you can use it to view the Aim calendar or catch up on legislative information. EXHIBIT HALL Nearly 150 companies, organizations, and state agencies specializing in municipal government solutions will be on-hand in the exhibit hall. Make sure to visit their booths to learn what they can offer your city or town and to find innovative technology and resources to take back to your community. This year, the exhibit hall will kick off with the welcome reception on Tuesday and feature a continental breakfast on Wednesday. The exhibit hall will also feature Aim Libs. This interactive game will have attendees networking within the exhibit hall while collecting words to fill in their Aim Libs. Completed game cards can be returned for a chance to win fantastic prizes. Don t forget to pick up your game card with participating vendors at registration for your opportunity to win a number of great prizes! GUEST PROGRAM Guests of conference attendees will not be bored!
